Storm Helene

I believe this is the area where dozens were rescued from a hospital roof.
The hospital is that sprawling white one-story building
It'a hard to believe they'd build a hospital on such a wide and low flood plain.

I expect around the world building departments, county permits, civil engineers, architects etc. will be adapting specifications to climate change.

Tragic scene, but excellent aerial footage.

I read about the devastations this hurrican has caused, and my thoughts are with everyone affected by it.

I am originally from East Tennessee. The topography is such that you either build on a side of a mountain or on flat land in the valleys. Even with possible river flooding, they never dreamed a storm of this magnitude could affect them in this way. If folks can ever wrap their mind around the fact that climate change is real, I would anticipate many changes to building codes, etc. This problem is not going to go away anytime soon. As one scientist recently said, there isn’t much we can do now in the short term to affect this, but plenty we can do in the long term to help protect the future.

As much as I hate showing any type of crazy weather, I do it for a few selfish reasons (because I get scared) and because there's a need to prepare, especially as these things move inland. I know what its like to be caught off guard and its not pleasant!

So I really educated myself. You have to here. All the ingredients were there to make this storm one for the ages, and when the modeling came out, when NHC said there was going to be affects well inland, they really weren't kidding and they were actually being conservative in how they wrote this, though you could see the concern in the weather discussions.

Here's the sad; lot of meteorologists that work in news stations don't or can't talk about these things because it can cause wide spread panic but, when they say somethings coming and nothing comes or its "tiny" people get mad and then stop preparing when these things actually happen.

And while forecasts can be wrong, this one really wasn't. even 10+ days out it was on track.

I'm happy when I'm prepared and its a nothingburger. I wish they were all notheringburgers.

as a FYI my son's friend, his wife and animals are ok, their house is damaged and the national guard rescued them, he is a master carpenter with his own business so now he is in the process of trying to get the tree's off his roof and then once the house is secure they will be driving to his parents house and I assume he will go back and forth trying to work on his house.

Saddened by the number of people who have lost their lives. I fear the number may rise drastically.:cry2:
