Strms'' Surgery Update

w2b, thanks for the update. i''m glad to hear the surgery went well. i hope his recover is quick.
 
I called the hospital about an hour and a half ago, and the nurse would only tell me that he was resting comfortably...and nothing else, even tho I explained to her who I was and that Strm was spose to have left instructions that I could call...but that didn''t help any...so I called his sister and she will be going in to see him when visiting hours resume at 8:30 pm...that is really weird to me - no visiting or calling from 7-8:30 pm...here in Canada that IS visiting hours...guess we are backwards or something giggle
So Strm''s sister was going to call me when she knew more about what I had found out from his brother...so I hope yet later on tonight to have another update - if not - will try to fill in what I can tomorrow morning...seems like a very long day to me today...but maybe cuz I didn''t sleep much last night worrying about Strm - giggle - hey, isn''t that what a fiance is for ;} giggle

I can understand how hard it is for you waiting from phone call to phone call. Try and relax if it is at all possible. Glad the surgery is over and I hope the recovery proceeds smoothly. Hope he can come off that ventilator real soon.

How long did his surgery last?

his surgery was suppose to last at least 1.5 hours, and I think it might have been about 2 hours, but I am not possitive on that...it might have just been the 1.5 hours, because I wasn''t called until he was starting to wake up - so he would have been in recovery for a bit before they started waking him up.
 
HI All, me again...
I just called the hospital, and was talking to Strm''s nurse, and he said that he was just starting to go back to sleep - he had just given him pain meds again - he said he could only give him half a doseage since a full doseage made him feel neausated. His nurses name was Tom and the sweet man told me he would take care of him for me - when he found out that I was in Canada and so far away. I think the dear man has made me be able to sleep now - giggle - just nice knowing he has someone who cares :} Funny the little things that will make one relax :}
So night from me - and will let you know tomorrow how things are going :}

Good Morning ya''ll
A new update for now on Strm...he didn''t sleep but maybe two hours last night because he is in a lot of pain. The pain meds they were giving him were not doing the job so they have switched to morphene for now. He is still on full strength of the ventilator and they are suppose to try to wean him off of that today. A pulminologist (spelling?) is coming in this morning to check him and to make sure that his bronchular tubes are clear. His sister was in early this morning (before 7 am) and said he looked good, and he can write to one to tell them what he wants etc. Last night his pain was at 9-10 and this morning it is about 5 so that part is good...and he wasn''t too outta it to give his sister a sweet nothings message for me - giggle :}:}:}
So will update you all when I get more news - let''s keep those prayers and healing vibes going :}
 
Thanks for the update Wifey2B. I hope YOU got some sleep last night. It sounds like poor Storm had a rough night, but hopefully things are better today. Wishing you both well.
 
It does sound as if he has had a rough time, but I hope he will get better every day! I send my love to both of you.

Thanks for the update wifey2b!!! I hope the pulmonologist gives good news and hope that he can get off the ventilator soon. I''m glad they are doing a better job of managing his pain. I know this is tough for you, hang in there!!!! Prayers continue...
 
My goodness it sounds like he had a tough night. I am happy to hear the pain is controllable at this stage.

Hang in there - everyone is hoping for the very best and that he''ll be out soon and get home.

Another update...
Just talking to Strm''s nurse a bit ago and she was in the room with him. They have started weaning him off the ventilator and are all in hopes of having him off the machine and up in a chair this evening. So yaaaayyyyyyy, let''s just hope he continues to improve. They are still giving him morphine, but the pain seems to be getting better. They were going to soon take his blood work again and check his blood gasses to see if they could wean him some more.
The nurse told Strm that it was his fiance on the phone and she said oh he is waving hi to you. I asked her to tell him I loved him and she said he was trying to mouth that he loved me too - now that is an accomplishment when one has a big ol tube in ones mouth - giggle
I am so blessed, I need to start counting my blessing more and stop worrying about my problems.
Anywho - that is it for now - will let you know how it is going later again :}

Healing prayers for Storm. Hopefully he''ll be off the ventilator soon.
 
I will be praying for you both to get some rest, and for strm''s pain to be decreasing, and for that ventilator to go bye-bye. We know you need to hear him say it instead of just using sign language. It''s hard to be away from a loved one at these times, but they definitely give you a reason to count your blessings. You each are a blessing to the other, and a blessing for this board as well. Chin up and great big hugs.

One of these days you are going to have to tell us how you and Strm met being so far away from eachother and all. Were you in US or was Storm in Canada?

Hope your man has a better night tonight, then you can get some sleep too.
 
so glad to hear that he is doing better.

w2b, the reason they don''t let people visit during those hours is because the nurses and doctors have to attend to the patient, same with certain hours in the mornings, since they do their rounds. we went through the same thing when my BIL had his surgery last month.
 
New Update....
I just got off the phone with Strm''s nurse. He is doing very well she said. He has not had any pain med since this morning!!!
His ventilator has come way down and, if he is not off of it tonight sometime, then probably by early tomorrow morning! But he will have to stay at least one more night - which is tonight - but they would like to monitor him for 24 hours after he is off the ventilator, but will have to see - they might get the Christmas Spirit and let him out for Christmas.
She said he was just going to sleep again - has been getting lots of rest....
She said he has been writing her notes all afternoon - telling her how we met and when we met and how long we have been engaged - giggle - Now I''m the one that should be all embarrassed giggle :D But no -i''m too proud of my honey''s progress. The nurse even told me to get a good nights rest now - that he had come a long way!!
I am so thankful that Strm has such good nurses and docs :D
