Indeed we do have the same forecast, gemgirl! And I can see your outline from my beach! For anyone who is unfamiliar with the geography of this area, coastal Connecticut and the North Shore of Long Island are separated only by Long Island Sound, which varies in width but which can be traversed by ferry. One can see (although not clearly) from one side of the Sound to the other.

The Sound is at most 45 miles wide, I am near the widest point and on a clear day I can see the outline of LI.

I'm glad it's windy! Otherwise the accumulation would be much much more than it is here. The house's roof has zero snow, the front of my car is bare. The back end... well my Jetta looks like a Prius! Hahaha

Stay warm everyone

I'm in Jersey and it's been snowing for approx. 4 hours and we are getting slammed...I sent the husband out for a milk run earlier...and we had a French toast and champagn brunch when the kid got up at 1pm. They are both back to sleep and I'm now watcing "Gentlemen Prefer Blondes" on FMC--which was one of the DVDs I asked for {and got}. The snow plow has been by once so far...I really HATE this weather. I have friends who like to ski and snow board and I just don't get it....if it gets below 50 I'm ready to leave town.

Stay safe and warm everybody...

Hi Deb!! Welcome back to CT! It's been snowing here for quite a few hours. It's hard to say how much accumulation we have since it's dark now, but I'd be very surprised if we got 12" - I'm thinking more like 6". We'll see! Too bad I already too tomorrow off of work - if I hadn't, I could just say I'm working from home because of the snow and not have to go in anyway!

I am really hoping that everyone makes it home safe and sound. Im in southern PA and actually had no idea it was supposed to snow. We went to the grocery store this morning and were wondering why it was so busy. Then I went to my parents house and my stepdad told me 6-12 for our area. It has been snowing since about 4 pm here. I cant really tell how much is out there because it is so windy!

FI wants to drive home to north jersey from PA right now....ugh. I'm trying to convince him not to....what a dumb idea!!

It's a white out over here in Manhattan at 7pm...bring it on Snow Miser...the kids are off of school all week! :naughty:

Hi, Elrohwen-I was back from Virginia in time for Christmas. Over here on the coast there is snow and wind and a prediction of more snow. It's 22 degrees right now and going down-at least to 18 degrees. The wind is blowing pretty hard, so it's possible we'll lose power (and, thus, heat). That's all I'm at all concerned about, because it's no fun without heat. We went for five days with no heat last winter. Only my 90 year-old father stuck it out for all five days in the house. (I sent my daughter out the first day we lost heat and I wimped out by day 3 or 4!!!) We may have to look into a generator, too, with the way the winters are going. There's a good Op-ed piece in today's "The New York Times" with one man's opinion on why winters have been colder (his theory: Siberian snow fields are larger).

AN tell your FI to stay put. It's crazy out there. Better to stay put and to stay safe. The winds are howling. I have done my share of shoveling, and hubby is using the snow blower. :snore: Meaning he's got to be doing it over and over...

Hoping all stay safe. :wavey:

I can't imagine driving right now.. Stay home please...

It's snowing, it's snowing! :appl:

The snow is deeper than one of my dogs can walk in. That means I had to dig out the grass so she could poop. spoiled

But, davi, without a drawn-to-scale picture of your dog, we still don't know how deep your snow is!!!

Dog with scale...

The snow is about 8 inches here. Which hits her right at mid chest. She missed the steps down to the sidewalk and buried herself. She is not a fan!

I shoveled the steps and grass so she can do her business. Plus I just finished her new coat :D The belt is the same fabric as the underside. It's lined with a heavy felt for warmth. It's thin but warm. Slips right over head and then the flap goes under her chest and velcros on. The belt is to keep it close to her back and to keep her exposed belly a little less exposed. I think I'm going to attach an extension to the chest flap and belt to cover her up even more. The other dog has no problem in the snow with her own fur so her coat project is put on the back burner until I can get Neena's coat perfected.

You are a good daddy, davi. I never put any of my dogs into coats because they were pretty big and well padded. We are very likely to be getting an adult male Newfoundland and he will not need me to make him a little coat, either. But we do whatever our doggies need, because they are our babies! When my big Lab was old, I brought him his dinner to wherever he was lying, because he had arthritis!

Deb

We are in Cambridge, so kind of a Boston suburb (not sure if it counts as "western" -- I suppose we are kind of northwest depending on where in Boston you are!)

It is seriously coming down though. Plows going up and down the street constantly, bunch of cars were towed as well. Glad I'm not out there!

I just looked out to see and it appears we've gotten at least 5-6 inches so far, though it is hard to tell since our windows are getting all snowed up =)

I JUST got done cleaning off my dads car so he can go to work in the morning ( MAJOR :( ) and we definitely have a decent amount on the ground, I'd say about 8 inches or more.

Kaleigh---I made him stay. At first he wasn't hearing it but we were watching the news and they showed Manhattan (he lives 15 mins away from there) and it looked like a complete ghost town. I got my way ::)

Glad he listened to you. I know many think, oh this ain't nothin... But I am here to say this is insane...... I can't keep up with it so gave up. Hubby is fast asleep and hope the snow blower is ready and able tomorrow..

Going to bed. I hate to think what we will wake up to. I hear sirens going off like crazy and we are in the suburbs...

I am just glad we have power with these winds..

Best to all.. If ya don't hear from me , that means I am an eye clean frozen piece of ice...... :cheeky:

It's a relief you won't have any inclusions, Kaleigh. No frozen spit people here. Stay warm, all you Yanks. I'm a little envious, miss blizzards (if you can stay home).

Davi, cutest little jacket for Neena! You're a lover. One of my Siberians is a shrimpy girl, short sturdy legs -- she comes in with her tummy all frozen, the rest of her pretty dry. Yesterday she had a blast, thrusting her nose deep into the snow, looking for mice, then bouncing on to the next possible site -- a pretend hunt.

I'm right across the pond from you Deb. The North Shore and CT always has the same weather forecast. They say we're in for up to 18" too, and everyone *must* be believing the weather man because the supermarkets were absolutely packed with people this morning.

Yep, that's exactly it. When we go out on our friend's charter boat during the summer, we can see CT from out in the Sound. It's really gorgeous here in summer. In winter though...... both CT and the North Shore get hit the hardest with snow and winds. There's some sort of whipping, swirling effect that happens. We get more snow than anyone else on the Island. We've got 15"/16" so far. It looks like we're locked in today. Snow day for the hubster!

It's still snowing in CT. I was up again for the better part of the night, watching the trees sway in the wind. :errrr:

Still no snow baby.

My dogs LOVE the snow. Hope to have some photos of them later today.

Looks like it will be 50 degrees on New Years.

It's still snowing north of Boston and the wind is pretty strong too. We're supposed to go out with friends later tonight but we may postpone.

It finally stopped snowing here in southern Westchester but it's still such a mess. All the trains into the city have been suspended and the roads although plowed look treacherous. Last night was our first wedding anniversary and we had to trek into town for dinner during the downfall. It was awful out by the time we made the 10min walk my face was frozen and my hair was dripping in snow, I went from looking very pretty to a snowy mess! Hopefully it will be better by tomorrow or places will be delivering....we have limited food options at the moment.

My dog is spoiled too. I have to wait until he really has to go and then he pooped immediately in the plowed street.

Kenny, another reason to live in SoCal. That's my car. It's usually not bad to dig out until it blocks the door from opening, which is the case here ;(

Can't wait for the neighbor to snow blow his sidewalk an encapsulate the other side of the car.

All in all, we got between 6-8 inches in the New Hope, Pa area (slightly more with the drifts in certain areas). we just cleared off our driveway and walkway (thank goodness for the snowblower!) and had a nice hot cup of coffee. Now it is just blustery cold so no need to venture outside again except for the occasional potty time for our dog (we cleared a nice grassy patch for him because he won'tgo just anywhere! what a pain!)

I live in NC and RDU measured 6.5 inches which is A LOT of snow for the triangle. The kids and I went out to play yesterday. I am so glad I decided ahead of time to take this Monday off work. The roads are passable though.

We have to shovel a path on both decks, the few stairs and a nice size patch of lawn. Then my little angel will go out to pee :saint: .
