Hi all,

Having sinus surgery on Thursday and starting to get very nervous. I go in tomorrow for pre-surgical testing so I hope to have some of my questions answered.

I know it''s just sinus surgery, pretty minor compared to some of my past surgeries.. but this one has me nervous because it involves me being able to breathe :) and they are going up near my brain with scopes, balloons, etc.

I should be back online by Friday.

Ugh. I''ve had it too. Best wishes.

Best wishes to you!!! Hope to see you back healthy and feeling good!

Hi lainey--I have no personal experience with it and I am sure any surgery is no fun but my boss is a total wimp and he did fine with sinus surgery--if he hadn''t we would have heard alllll about it. It really helped him, too. Good luck! Let us know how it went.

Sending you speedy recovery wishes!

Sending you PS dust for your surgery!! Best wishes for a speedy recovery!

It will be alright. My pain threshold is very low (I''m scared of even dental cleanings). Safe for the after-effects of the anaesthesia, I don''t remember any suffering.

not to worry you will be finer than frog hair split 8 ways!

We'll be waiting for you and you will be fine. In the meantime, try to take deep breaths and just be where your feet are. I know how hard that is. You will be fine by Friday, though.

Prayers outgoing, as Karl says.

Hugs,
Deborah

You will be fine! You should just let them know that ahead of time and they will give you a little something extra for anxiety. The couple of surgeries I''ve had, I have chatted with the anesthesiologist (sp) beforehand and requested anti-anxiety meds and, of course, caffeine since I''m a coffee addict and usually go into surgery with a headache.

Wishing you a flawless surgery with the quickest recovery! You will be up and about in no time.

You will be ok, but I will still keep you in my thoughts and prayers

Yep, second to the anti-anxiety meds! Your dr. can give you an RX for one or two Xanax, but be sure to only take a quarter of it rather than the whole tablet. I know from experience as my dr. gave me 1 mg tablets and I took one and feel asleep! lol Luckily I was at home rather than driving down the road! (That is to say, if your dr. prescribes you to take one an hour or two before the surgery, which would make sense to ask him/her to do.)

Thanks all! Good advice about the anxiety meds! They must have given me something like that before my hysterectomy because I just remember being calm and a little loopy :) My most recent surgery was to fix torn cartilage in my wrist, I didn''t get anything until I was actually IN the operating room, made the whole thing more nerve wracking! I was driving my poor husband nuts wringing my hands and bouncing my knee up and down.

lainey, I''ve had nine surgeries for GYN problems and I just had two dental surgeries last year and I found that the hardest part of any surgery is the fear and anxiety that happens during the week before. If you know how to, meditate this week to try to calm yourself and if that doesn''t work, take a fragment of an anti-anxiety med for the few days before. Before one of my surgeries I got myself so worked up and short of breath that I just grabbed my husband and went home. Of course that was a lame brained thing to do because I had to go through the whole damned thing again just two weeks later. I wish they had offered me something before hand to calm me, but they didn''t. Unfortunately for us, a lot of doctors look at these procedures as being "nothing" , "just routine" like changing the oil in our cars. They don''t understand that it scares the living you know what out of us.

Oh Gemgirl! I always hate to hear of people have GYN problems like I have had, but it''s also comforting to know I am not alone. I had 5 surgeries for endometriosis, ovarian cysts, and uterine fibroid tumors. A little over a year ago I finally said enough is enough and had a total abdominal hysterectomy. The physical is healed, just scars left, but the emotional part is still healing, a work in progress I guess :)

Ooh - good luck, tons of PS dust and good thoughts headed your way - I''m sure you''ll be fine before you know it!

Positive thoughts coming your way for a quick surgery and an easy recovery!

Yup! Talk to the anesthesiologist before the day of the surgery! Tell him of the major anxiety factor. Let him come in a couple of hours early and start you on a valium (or whatever) drip! What a difference that makes! I've done it that way and the nail biting way!!!

Either way you will be fine...but comfortable emotionally beforehand and fine is even better!!!

Best of luck! Prayers continue, too!

Hugs,
Deb

I survived (obviously) hehe :) In some pain of course and very tired but glad it''s over and very glad I had it done! We discovered I had something very strange going on in my sinuses, leave it to me to have some bizzaro thing! Apparently I have my regular sinus cavities like everyone else but I had an extra cavity within them, so fluid would built up and go back and forth between the cavities but never drain. Hence the constant sinus/ear infections. So he opened it all up so it''s just one cavity now that will drain properly. And opened up my nasal and sinus openings so I can breathe better.

Hurts my nose to have my glasses on right now because I am swollen and puffy but hopefully by the weekend I will be feeling better and get online again.

Thanks all for the well wishes and advice!!

By the way, I figured out what the happy drug is that makes you not remember surgery, it''s called Versed and that''s what they didn''t give me last time that made it so traumatic, I definitely got it this time and it was easy breezy!

Glad to hear it went okay!

Glad you''re ok!! Hope you have a speedy recovery!

Glad to hear it all went well! Hopefully that will be the end of the sinus troubles!

Hope your recovery is super quick!

Happy to hear it went well. More wishes for a speedy recovery!

Laney - I''ve never had surgery nor had to have anything major done, so I don''t really know how you feel to try to help. But I wanted to offer my good luck wishes and a hug!!

Glad to hear it went as well as could be expected - wishing you a speedy recovery and an abatement of symtoms!
