And you know who pays? We The People. Every tariff cost gets pushed to us and we're the ones that pay it. I guess I won't be putting off that vegetable garden anymore.

100%

Here's an article that lists what may go up in price for anyone interested. In general I think prices on just about everything have been climbing for awhile now. Hence the decision hubby and I made about purchasing a new car and getting our roof replaced. We could have waited but I just didn't have a good feeling about that.

I don't know what you know who has up his sleeve but I have a feeling (hope at least) that all this is temporary. But as with all things time will tell

@Begonia, I hope you know many American find this incredibly sad. It hurts my heart. Most Americans love Canada. We have always considered them our alies. None of this is normal and the majority of American’s are not happy about this. It is extremely disturbing.

https://www.reuters.com/ I will just leave this here.

If you have stock, and IRA, a 401K and even bonds you're gonna feel the pinch on this I have to put some thought into how to stop the bleeding thats going to be coming. Markets are expected to tumble tomorrow at the open and who knows what that recovery will look like or when it will happen.

We know which demographic won't feel this one....

For those of us (employees and contractors) who work in the .gov space; If you need a safe space to just talk and catch your breath + get some support from our coworkers across agencies, search for r/fednews on reddit. (non fed please be respectful of the space is the only thing asked)

Also, sorry I mispelled Tariff...lol Its been a very long couple of weeks.

you know the dumb thing is one of his cronnies accused NZ of having a left wing govt on Friday (we do not) amoung other lies and then they pull a stunt like this

There is so much I would love to say but I would get banned. Begonia, it’s important to me that you know how most American’s feel. What you posted truly is our sentiment.

I have so much rage. All of this is unnecessary.
And now the billionaire friend is given access to the Treasury's payment system - none of this is normal. None. I have been having panic attacks. My university has been suspending grants funding and panels - and no it didn't go back to normal after the pause was withdrawn. It's an utter shitshow.

The anger is expected and normal. Some are using that anger for good.

Monday at work is gonna be interesting.

Some Canadian provinces have started removing American liquor/beer from shelves and it is now illegal to acquire American liquor/beer in those provinces. Prices for US consumers are going to go up.

Smaller stores and restaurants will suffer; some may close and the bigger joints will make us pay more for their survival.

So um.. Anyone want to go to Canada for a job?

its a shame you are so far away
im trying to think of something other than maple syrup that i can buy (we already buy Canadian maple syrup)

I am sorry if you think America hates Canada, we don't. We love the citizenry and their country. With all the pearl clutching going on, it isn't mentioned that we are loathe to have these tariffs levied but our country needs help undoing much damage that has occurred. Our country has reached out to these countries and asked for help in stemming the border crossings and fentanyl and terrorists being moved into the USA. We have not received any assistance and therefore, the tariffs. I pray our country can reach an agreement with Canada that would benefit all of us.

Please be assured this tariff is not in place because of any hate factor, we need help to keep out people who may want to harm all of us. We are seeking assistance and that's the bottom line.

Canada and the US have worked together to strengthen the border between our countries. The steps they've taken are easily searchable and I'm not posting the sources here because I'm too lazy to remove the names we're not supposed to say. As far as fentanyl, in 2024, only about 43 pounds of fentanyl was seized at America's northern border. That compares with roughly 21,100 pounds seized at the southern border. The fentanyl excuse for imposing tariffs on Canada does not hold water. Most precursor chemicals used to produce fentanyl are funnled from industrial companies in China to Mexico's cartels yet only a 10% tariff was imposed on China.

Oh wow, so THATS how ignore works!

Now I can go back to clutching my pearls.

Clutching your pearls will cost you far less than the cost of the bourbon I'll be paying for these next few years :mrgreen2:

I'll simply suggest people do their own online research and they will find how much of an issue this is for the USA. There has even been an admission from Canada as to their missteps in this situation.

Coming to the table to work out a solution would be preferable but for now, that's not happening apparently. As I stated in an earlier post, I hope a solution is found quickly for both Canada's and the USA's good.

To suggest this is just to attack Canada is wrong and I would like people to realize this current situation.

1000% tariff on any production goods moved out of the US in the last 30 years is whats needed but not very practical.
Then add a 200% tax on cellphones over $600.

Per a Canadian law enforcement official...

"It's very difficult to stop that flow of migrants going south for the main reason that the legislative tools at our disposal are geared towards northbound people coming into Canada illegally and not so much people leaving Canada and entering the United States illegally," he told a news source.

Hmmmm, first someone suggests they should be our 51st state and when the idea is rebuffed, a tariff is imposed. Could it be an ego thing? Get laughed at, impose tariff in hopes of crashing an economy so the country can be annexed?

We have a drug problem, we have an undocumented immigrant problem. Both problems have been kicked down the road by whomever is in power for decades and I've become cynical enough to think the problem isn't solved because it's such an effective platform for winning elections. I have to question why that's so. Why was a private citizen allowed to tank last year's bi-partisan border bill? Why aren't companies who hire undocumented workers severely penalized? Why aren't there US citizens vying for the jobs they claim undocumented workers steal from them? So many questions and too few answers.
