This is true especially since most of the drug enters this country hidden in vehicles driven by Americans who bring it here through legal points of entry.

If that's the case they should put the soldiers at their southern border.

I believe most of the fentanyl is moved into the USA through cartels but I could be wrong.

I watched interviews with Mexican citizens and all the traffic through their country has caused hardship and difficulty for many of them living there. It has affected so many there and their quality of life.

It appears Mexico is considering soldiers at their southern order.

Per statistics, 86% of the terrorists coming into America are coming in through the northern border.

What is crazy is that there are so many fires right now, it's hard to know where to focus the attention (which may be part of the point). Right now the biggest, imho, is Elon.

Yep. We don't know if he's an official appointee or an employee. We don't know if the people working with him are either of those or if any of them have security clearances yet they all have access to our personal information and we don't know why or what they're doing with it. No transparency. None.

@lyra, The majority of American’s love Canada and it’s people. Please don’t leave. I was so happy to see you back here and I’m sure many others are as well here.

Thank you @Arcadian. I agree with all you said. The last thing I want is this thread shut down.

If anyone feels themselves getting upset, please ignore the poster. Use the ignore button. There are others here who feel exactly as you do. Just disengage with those who don’t. It’s not worth it.

For some of us this thread is very helpful right now. I know because I’m one of them.

Done. Ignore I meant.

So in the cold light of day we're seeing what China just did.

There are A TON of things that will be under the tariff and of course we know who's paying it....

Also Europe, y'all are not off the table.

Also Sec 321 De Minimis is now essentially eliminated. It was going to go away anyway. During the previous administration they had already started that groundwork.

This is the proposed rule:

For those who have no idea what that is. It in simple terms means packages that are less than 800USD can be imported without tariff. And with that, I can order a package from any country and as long as its under 800USD, I would not be taxed as an individual. And I can do that as many times as I want. This is why places like Temu, Shein and Alibaba made tons of money because how could you not get around something as simple as this?

@Arcadian, do we know when this change in de minimis is going into effect?

Based on what I've seen and what I know (there's a regulatory freeze even with stuff out for comment) Its anyone's guess.

What I can say is this overhaul was one of the biggest talking points of the current administration, so it will be up to them if they accept this as is.

@Arcadian, do we know when this change in de minimis is going into effect?

The comment period on the proposed rule change looks to be open until late March, so it's not imminent. And who knows if it will even pass. One of the strongest backers of the increased de minimis for China, John Thune, is now the Senate Majority Leader.

For anyone interested in more back-story, this was a very educational video:

@lala646 Very interesting video - appreciate it!

One would think the issue/solution would be simple, but geez it's complicated! I loved his summation, and I don't know how I feel about de minimus. My opinions on it are all over the place. :oops2:

Now, back to the economic world war (EWW :lol-2:) . This one is easy - I'm pissed!!!!! :angryfire:

From what I have been able to read none of them do. Not even the leader. Not even background checks.
The Press Secretary said she didn't know, when asked.

I believe most of the fentanyl is moved into the USA through cartels but I could be wrong.
CBP data show that in FY 2024 there were 21,148 pounds of fentanyl seized by officials at the southwest border – the vast majority of which was intercepted from people, largely American citizens, coming through legal ports of entry. That figure was down from the 26,718 pounds seized in FY 2023. The figures for both years are higher than the 14,104 pounds seized in FY 2022.

Maybe they are working for the cartels, but Americans are bringing most of it in.

Nope. It's the percent of suspected terrorists who are stopped from entering, not proven terrorists. You quoted a soundbite taken out of context. Screenshot 2025-02-04 at 1.07.50 PM.png

Per Cato Inst. data analysis (and they are right-of-center) published in 2023:

"The chance of a person perishing in a terrorist attack committed by a foreigner on U.S. soil over the 48-year period studied here is 1 in 4.3 million per year. The hazard posed by foreigners who entered on different visa categories varies considerably. For instance, the annual chance of an American being murdered in a terrorist attack by a refugee is about 1 in 3.3 billion, while the annual chance of being murdered in an attack committed by an illegal immigrant is zero. Looking at this spectrum of risk, any government response to terrorism must consider the wide range of hazards posed by foreign-born terrorists who entered under various visa categories.

There were 219 foreign-born terrorists who planned, attempted, or carried out attacks on U.S. soil from 1975 through 2022. Of those, 67 percent were Islamists, 16 percent were foreign nationalists, 6 percent were right-wing extremists, 5 percent were non-Islamic religious terrorists, 4 percent were left-wing extremists, and the rest were separatists, adherents of other or unknown ideologies, or targeted worshippers of specific religions."

P.S. We want the fentanyl to be seized.

They've been unmasked. One of them is 19 yrs old.

Musk’s young crew have been unmasked as Akash Bobba, Edward Coristine, Luke Farritor, Gautier Cole Killian, Gavin Kliger and Ethan Shaotran, WIRED first reported. As their names were published, the group rushed to disable any trace of their social media profiles.

But has anyone heard the ways that the taxpayer money has been spent

Oh my. What I heard on the news was that a 25 year old had access to everything. I hadn't heard what you posted.
The fact that they rushed to delete their social media is very troublesome to me.

I read about this young crew of 6 late last night. How is this even legal? How is someone without an actual government job or security clearance allowed to put a team together to do this? Six people between the ages of 19 and 25 have access to trillions of dollars. Mind blowing.

Having personal information is not required to assess the efficiency or wastefulness of a system. That we do not have a nationwide protest brewing over this is beyond me. Personal information should be redacted at the very least. Gahhhh.

I don’t understand why this is not a bipartisan issue. That’s how bad it is right now. I am so angry.

Can I join?! Lol
Though I want to both tempt fate w the lions yet also stand outside the treasury dept in protest.

Of course @bee24! Who am I kidding, I can’t see me tempting fate with lions. The last two weeks have been rough enough. LOL

My friends report the US postal service suspended incoming packages from China.
