The 5 Stone Ring Thread!

I love seeing all these five-stone rings! Thank you to everyone who has shared. Looking at the photos has been very helpful to me in trying to determine what size of stones and what style of ring I want for mine. I'm still not entirely sure, but hopefully I will have the opportunity to make a decision soon.

Try again. Larger photos.

This is the only pic I have on my school computer of my 5 Stone. It is a BGD trellis in rose gold with .20 stones and a surprise pink sapphire inside not nearly as blingy as some of the others. It was a reset and Brian used my old stones it is way sparklier than the old s prong setting!!

Thanks for bumping this with your beautiful, unique five-stone ring Diamondseeker! It is nice to see different styles and vendors represented here and it reminds me that I never added my own five-stone ring to this thread. It is from Blue Nile with 2.07 carats of their ideal cut signature stones, E/F color, and VVS2 clarity in a platinum open gallery basket style setting. The ring is a size 6 shown on my size 5 1/2 left hand.

Sundial, that is so beautiful! I love looking at your rings because we wear close to the same sizes and it really helps to see rings on the same size fingers! I'd still like to have a larger 5 stone ring like yours for my right hand eventually.

MizNina...yours is gorgeous, too! Can't wait to see more pictures!

Actually, all the rings in this thread are beautiful! There are so many pretty variations of the 5 stone band!

It's done! Talk about FAST! And, I think it will be here TOMORROW already! Jonathan really had a great solution for my center stone quandary...if I want a bigger center I can trade this one in but this gives me the opportunity to have the ring completed and on my finger so I can see things w/my own eyes. Everyone at GOG was super helpful. Marie walked me through all the steps and of course I love Jonathan to death..he suffered through all my Facebook messages and emails!

I had a lot of help and support here and on FB too, and I greatly appreciate it. I've been thru all the five stone threads I could find several times. Yssie in particular was a help w/her drawings and explanations of things for me.

My dream setting will come later, after I've decided on the center for sure. This is a stock setting from Unique Settings of New York.

Clearly the diamond I bought in January was my gateway diamond, leading to a life of hardcore diamond addiction. I'm now thinking I need some OEC studs (even though I prefer dangly, non-sparkly earrings). I'm now thinking I need a milgrained bezel-set OEC solitaire necklace (even though I never wear necklaces). I didn't need any diamonds until I "met" you people!

I wasn't thinking I needed another diamond ring, until I spent some time with my dealer (aka eBay) last night. Y'all have created a monster. A monster, I tell you!

This should be posted to me tomorrow, so hopefully I'll have it by the weekend:

1.1 cttw (.15 .20 .40 .20 .15 OECs) sold as H SI1, platinum head and shoulders, 18k YG band. I'll have the band replaced with WG if I keep the ring.

I've wanted a five stone ring in a U-prong setting since the very first time I saw one on PS. I even created a "5 Stone Ring Wish Folder" on DH's computer, for all the good it did me! I started saving for one about two years ago and saved up enough money over a year ago. I just let it sit for a bit while I brought DH around to the idea. He kept saying it was a "20 year" gift. Given that we're just now hitting 5, that wasn't working for me. Last fall, while we were out of the country, I found an amazing deal on a 5 stone ring with OECs on DB. It was too good to pass up. I bought the ring, but somehow, someway, proceeded to immediately chip two stones. One had a BAD abrasion on the top (I really think it happened at the jeweler while it was sized as it wasn't shipped damaged, but have zero proof of that) and then I somehow knocked the SNOT out of the stone next to it and sheared a sizeable chunk off the side. Do not ask me how, I have no idea. I sent it off to Brian Gavin to be evaluated for polish/re-cut, but while re-cut was possible, it made no sense as it would drastically change the size of the stones and the trickle down effects would literally mean a whole new ring.

When I picked up Mom's ring at the jeweler last week, I had them take a quick peek at mine for a second opinion (knowing what it would be) and to see if perhaps, maybe, just maybe, they could source some replacement stones for me. The jeweler gave me the same verdict as BG (no shock), but said he thought he could find some stones. He called me a few days later with a couple of potential stones to look at. I stopped by Thursday afternoon. The stones looked good- more transitional than OEC, but at least 1 of the 5 stones in the ring looked more transitional than OEC as it was. I asked him to put the new stones on the ends and move the three existing stones to the middle. He said he could have it ready by Saturday, so I told him to proceed.

I picked the ring up today and it looks great! One stone is to my eye smaller than it was previously- but it's on the side and I'm okay with it (well, I'm telling myself I am!). They're similar clarity (SI1) and color (G & H) to the existing stones (all G). I basically now have 2 OEC and 3 transitionals, but from the top, you really can't tell too much of a difference and if someone is that close to my ring, I have other problems! I got a great price on the stones, so I'm happy with the outcome. I have the two stones they removed and the damage is pretty ugly. BUT.... I think if I put them into some milgrainted bezels setting earrings for my second hole, I can still use them. I am going to save my money for the settings so that the stones don't go unloved (cause they sure as heck aren't sellable!).

I took some pics out in the sun today. Not the best, but I never seem to be able to get the show stopper pics everyone else gets.

Before I forget- stats:

Approx 1.5 ctw
SI1
4 G's, 1 H
Size 5

Wow! That title is a mouth-full!

I just received my 30th birthday gift to myself in the mail. Well, it happened to arrive near my birthday but I've been working on this thing for a while now (close to a year), so we can call it my gift to myself.

It all started when I fell in love with Anne's BGD Nightingale ring. That SMTR thread is probably one of my most visited. I resolved to get myself a tiny twin to that ring but after searching for modern RBs I was discouraged by how long it would take me to save for it. Then I started toying with going antique but the task of searching for matching (or closely enough matched for my taste) antique stones on eBay, DB, and other second-hand sources just overwhelmed me.

Then one day I logged on to Diamond Bistro and came across a set of three stones, two matched in facets and then one larger that also matched well with the other two. Our lovely Upgradable was clearing out her stash so I immediately messaged her about them. A few days later then were in my hands and the project had begun!

Fairly quickly after that I found the center stone on eBay. While it is quite a bit warmer than the other stones I couldn't bear to return it due to the beauty of the faceting. It actually has a big black inclusion right over the culet and just barely under the table but the performance of the diamond totally distracted me from this fact.

The last stone was purchased locally in San Jose from Joe Escobar when I was visited with two other PSers (B.E.G. and StarSparkle).

After sourcing all of the stones (from March-November) I collected quotes for the setting. I pinged PS vendors, my local bench, and another jeweler across the country. I ended up going with Hunt Country in VA (our dear Kelpie introduced me to them) and the service I received was wonderful. Communication was excellent and the project was completed on time! I would work with them again in a heartbeat.

The total weight is a hair over 2 carats. The main stone measures about 5.3 mm x 5.1. The two pairs are 4 mm and 3 mm. It is a size 5.75 but it is a smaller 5.5, I think. So it is on my size 5.25-5.5 left hand for now.

ETA: The color grades range from I to M and I am not sure what clarity they were graded to have (beyond the keystone, which I'm 100% positive is an I1 due to the carbon spot). I can tell the difference in colors for sure but it doesn't bother me. I was going for similarity in shape and faceting over color. It is set in 18 kt unplated white gold.

Many many thanks to Upgradable for helping me find the first 4 stones. I bombarded her with endless emails in the beginning talking about this stone and that stone. This wouldn't have happened without her help.

Now, on to the pictures!

My mad crush on yellow gold continues. I'm thinking it might be getting pretty serious. I'm thinking of popping the question. I wasn't supposed to be spending any more money, but I fell in love. And you know we can't stop ourselves from doing silly things when we're in love.

I bought this beauty on ebay. Here's the link to the auction. I didn't pay the price listed. I've learned not to do that anymore http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&_trksid=p4340.l2557&item=190645735477&nma=true&rt=nc&si=sIs0SDCB%252BPQPgerP0HrYzRoU51E%253D&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWAX%3AIT&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc#ht_4939wt_1165

The emeralds are an amazing blue green and they glow even in low light.

Well...here's the history.. in a few posts...

It arrived this morning... picture me waiting on the front porch in the cold (who am I kidding, I live in Florida) looking for the UPS man.. like a kid waiting for Santa to drop down the fireplace... o.k. so my chances were better...

It's stunning.. perfect and everything I thought it would be and more...

DS..your're correct.. it's high...but when I put it next to my e-ring.. not any higher.. and because of the height the stones don't go between my fingers.. which was a concern for me..

It's heavy.. VERY HEAVY.. my arm is going to get a workout...

Too many pictures.... so let the posting begin.. I hope I got them cut down enough...

The setting is platinum with 1.714 tctw of beautiful Solasfers!!!

Many thanks to Tim Andres at Emma Parker & Co Jewelry for being so patient with me... and to Adam at Sareen.. you WAY exceeded my expectations....

First off I would like to say a HUGE thank you to everyone who posted in my RT thread for all of your help and support. This ring wouldn't have turned out so well without you.

I am very happy with how it turned out. It looks beautiful on my hand and i i can't wait to show you!

Backstory: This is a reset of my engagement ring wich was a 1.05ct RB solitaire. I loved yssies 3 stone and it was her ring that was the inspiration for this design. Thank you yssie. This ring is now my engagement and wedding ring combined to be worn on its own.

Specs: Center stone is a GIA XXX 1.05ct F SI1 round diamond.
2 AGS Ideal BGD .423ct F SI1
2 uncert .20ct F VS diamonds.

The total is a hairs breath away from 2.3ctw on a size 4 finger in a platinum trellis setting made by BGD.

Ok onto the photos! I must appologise in advance for the sheer number of them! I was using a new camera today and it didn't look like the photos were working too well so i kept taking more, It turns out they weren't too bad after all.

Hi All

I wanted to share with you my 40th birthday / 10th wedding anniversay and Xmas pressie all rolled into one! It is a 3ct old mine cut 5 stone that we purchased from JBEG, who were just wonderful. I cannot say enough good things about Erica & Grace

I am in Australia so it was a big purchase having not tried it on. I just love old cut diamonds and wanted a blingy band for my RHR so I was pretty sure this would fit the bill. I must have looked at the photos on their website a hundred times and still it is much more beautiful in person (I think) The only specs I have are that it is set in 18k yellow gold, approx 3cts, J-K and vs clarity...

Let me apologise in advance for my iphone pics.

Well, I'll call this a belated birthday present because I didn't see anything that I wanted back in September, but I came across this little "gem" and bought it! It is an old 5 stone band in almost perfect condition set in 90 plat/10 iridium and has five very slightly graduated stones. I think the largest is around 4mm and they average 20 points. So the total is around 1 ct. or a little more. The stones were said to be transitional, but I had my jeweler look at it and he said probably earlier rb. But he said it was very nice quality (G-H VS, SI, and platinum) and I got a great deal!

The setting is a neat combination of u-prong with 4 prongs and little prongs separating the stones. I love that it is a little unique and has character for a simple ring. I still dream of an AVR 5 stone band, but this ring will serve as an alternate to my wedding set for a change until maybe one day I can get an AVR one! The stones are bright and sparkly and were actually better than I expected!

So here are some pictures:
