For major blow-your-mind concerts: Muse

For low-key make-you-feel-like-you''re-with-a-good-friend concerts: Sara Bareilles and Brooke Fraser

wow.... what lists!
Ok... so I had seen the Grateful Dead over 50 times... those were ALWAYS as blast and so much fun....
39.gif

Widespread panic shows were always fun along with Phish..... similiar scene to GD, but not quite the same.....

I loved the Billy Joel/Elton John tour with the dueling pianos.... that was great

Blackeyed Peas were great preformers and were fun to watch

Rush always had great pyrotechnics

I have seen literally hundreds of concerts ranging from Pink Floyd and the Grateful Dead to Gwen Stefani....and everything in between.... quite an eclectic mix...

I've seen quite a few bands and have all my ticket stubs, but they're packed away, so these are the ones I remember off hand. . .

New Order - first concert and therefore THE BEST I was so excited and my friends and I drove down to portland to go to the show!
The Pixies
Nirvana
NIN
Ministry
Red Hot Chili Peppers
Soundgarden
Morphine
Foo Fighters
Cherry Popping Daddies
Black Happy
Primus

Okay, I''m showing my age here.

I don''t even really ''like'' Bruce Springsteen, but . . . at the very beginning of his major, huge popularity surge in 1984, I saw him in concert in Austin. Up close and personal. Real up close. This was before he married whats-her-name the actress, and right after the ''Dancing in the Dark'' video came out.

I have to concede, that was one of the best concerts I''ve ever been to. 2 1/2 hours non-stop rocking; the place was packed; and we were sitting at eye level within fifteen feet of him and the band. (He plays in the round with a catwalk and works all sides of the crowd, so we actually had great tickets by sitting behind the band.)

I''ve seen the major stars like Elton John and Sting, to name two. Too many people, too far away, too much ''smoke and mirrors'', and no surprises. Nothing off the cuff or unplanned. Boring. Couldn''t wait to leave.

I love James Taylor. He is low-key and folksy; really connects with the audience. It feels like an acoustic concert in a coffeehouse.

The Mavericks absolutely stole the show when they opened for Mary Chapin Carpenter (in the ''90s). Would go to another of their concerts any time.

I have not seen any of the ''alternative'' bands popular today, even though I like the music. My wish list of concerts would be: Kenny Chesney, Eagles, Jimmy Buffet, John Mayer, Eric Clapton, Alison Krause w/ Robert Plant or Union Station, Jason Mraz. I will regret ''til the day I die that I did not see Stevie Ray Vaughn in concert before his death.

Told ya I was old.

I have to add to my list, and I have no idea how I forgot . . .

But Ben Folds is, HANDS DOWN, the most entertaining concert I have ever been to! DH took me to Tulsa to see him in a tiny (1,000 person) venue for my 31st birthday. I was front row for a while, but didn''t enjoy the moshing, so I took a breather and headed to the bar to watch the rest of the show.

It was awesome!

Oh, and another one I forgot - Barenaked Ladies in 2000 at the Anaheim Duck Pond.

During the day was Volkswagen Fest, and my Dad and I, and 2 of my best friends who later married, had front row seats for the concert. They were filming the VH1 Behind the Music that night, and I'm in the BTM about 4 different times.

I wish I had known, I'd have gone back to the hotel to change or something before the show, after sitting outisde all day long.

Great topic.

Jazz

Large venues: Ella Fitzgerald & George Shearing (I was young)
Medium venues: Dave Weckl & Chick Corea
Clubs: Steps Ahead & Flora Purim with Airto.
Best longevity: Pat Metheny...year after year after year.

Mainstream:

I know I'll forget some but I've been blown-away by Prince, Sting, U2, Phil Collins & Dave Matthews.
Best longevity: Rush. I just saw them again, 2nd row center in Dallas last month. Looking at them walk out made me feel old. Watching them play made me feel young (about 100 photos here).

I love concerts, but I haven''t been to many lately. The ones listed below are what I can remember. I have "*"ed my favorites!

Goo Goo Dolls* (I must say that I am pretty much a groupie)
Matchbox 20
311
Lifehouse
Incubus
Everclear
Limp Bizkit haha
Counting Crows*
Good Charlotte
Colby Caliet
Eve 6
Fuel
Disturbed
Korn
Buckcherry
Third Eye Blind*
Bon Jovi*
Godsmack
Puddle of Mud

my FI is the biggest new order groupie on earth--he went to south america and followed them on their last tour (before anyone knew it was going to be their last!), so he got to see their last several shows and wound up meeting them at the airport, hahaha.

#1. The Beatles - Dodger Stadium, August 28, 1966. The next night The Beatles performed at Candlestick Park. It was their last concert - ever.

(The following aren't in any particular order)

Not because I'm a fan of any of them, but because they were ALL there, one sunny afternoon in the early '70s: Peter Frampton, Rod Stewart, Tower of Power and War.

Some spontaneous free concert by Santana at UCSF - free margarita punch (my first way too drunk - I was 15)

Jerry Lee Lewis and Bette Midler with the Harlettes.

Elvis Costello at The House of Blues. Oh, I just love him!

ETA: David Bowie at the Greek

How cool! It always sucks when a band breaks up, but sometimes it''s for the best (not saying necessarily for New Order), but some bands'' music just goes down hill after so many years! lol

Incubus. Hands down. Brandon Boyd makes me feel alittle...

Oh Good Grief, I am really going to show my age now, but here it goes.

The Beach Boys. 8 times.
9.gif
AND I STILL LOVE THEM
36.gif

The Rolling Stones. 3 times. AND I STILL LOVE THEM TOO.
36.gif

KC and the Sunshine Band

Kool and The Gang

Sunny and Cher (when they used to wear their cavemen outfits, when they were first popular)

Chicago. Still love them.

Hubby and I like some new age music too, so we have seen Yanni a few times also. We really like him.

Moody Blues.

Linda

Pink Floyd (hubby really loves them)
Rammstein (great pyro)
Cher (I paid for my step-dad and mother to go with me)
Kiss
Terence Trent D''arby
Howard Jones
AC/DC (mett and got Angus and Malcolm''s autograph)
Motely Crue (couldn''t hear well for 3 days)

And in clubs....
Type O Negative
L.A. Guns
Big Bad Voodoo Daddy (loved swing dancing)
Hiroshima (really liking jazz lately)

WOW!!! these are my kind of groups

the Beatles is the one group that i would pay $1000 bucks to see.

I have also seen the Barenaked Ladies in concert - it was a benefit with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra and they played together and they were INCREDIBLE!!! One of the singers is actually trained in Opera and you can tell. Amazing!

My other two faves were Coldplay and my allll time favourite artist: Sarah McLachlan!! I think I''ve seen her 6 times total (including the first 2 Lillith Fairs) and she is incredible. Such a talent. And Canadian! :-)

I had forgotten that we''ve seen Coldplay. They were great! We have a relatively new areana near us, so it''s still a new thing to go to a concert without having to drive into the Boston. I like it! I also agree with you about Sarah McLachlan. We''ve seen her a few times and she''s amazing each time. The last time we went, a great group called the Perishers opened up for her. Midway through a song, Sarah came on stage and sang with them. It was incredible! We had 7th row end seats -- it was awesome being so close.

I think my first concert was probably my favourite: Billy Joel and Elton John, touring together. Billy Joel is one of my favourites, grew up on him, and he was GREAT live. Elton was good too, but he is not my main Piano God. Billy is.
1.gif

I've also seen Tori Amos a few times--she is my Piano Goddess and she is amazing. I love her concerts because she never plays a song the same way twice. She's fantastic.

I've seen the Indigo Girls about 4 times. They are wonderful live, especially at Wolf Trap in VA (I think it's Wolf Trap?) with the outside area where you can lounge in the grass and just chill. Was nicer back when you could bring food and drink in to picnic, but whatev.

I saw John Mayer once and he was incredible. Very funny, and very talented. His child prodigy-ness doing blues guitar is really evident when he's jamming live with his band. I would love to see him play again.

I saw the Dave Matthews Band at RFK stadium in the pouring rain and it was SUCH a good show. A friend gave me a bootleg recording of it and I have listened to it again and again. It was such good music, and Dave was very amusing in that he sang a few times about us all getting drowned in the rain. That was probably the most energized audience at a concert I'd ever been to, and it seem to spur the band on extra (I'd seen them perform before but it wasn't the same).

Bobby McFerrin performed with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra when I was in college and he was PHENOMENAL. He did all kinds of awesome things, both classical and not, but by far the coolest thing he did was sing the arpeggio'ed accompaniment (which is actually a Bach prelude) while a woman seated in the balcony (a soprano friend of his) sang the melody to 'Ave Maria'. It was unbelievable.

Ooh! YouTube has a clip of him singing the Bach while a cellist plays the 'Ave Maria.' This is SO DIFFICULT to do: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sYIIhis6jfI&feature=related

If we're talking about favourite concerts to *play* for me it'd be the lead percussion part in 'West Side Story,' hands down.

Tommy James and the Shondells opened for them...

I was really young (would be turning 9 in a couple of months), but had been hearing Beatles records since they exploded onto the scene a few years earlier, so I loved them.... knew all the lyrics, had serial crushes on each band member... OMG!

It was a screamin'' hot time, literally!

how neat!! 1966 i was 7 yrs old. i still remember listening to them on the radio in HK (1965). the songs...."should have known better" "i want to hold your hand" "hard days night".

Growing up in the 1908''s I saw:

Foreigner
Rush
AC/DC
Great White
Sammy Hagar
Scorpions
Van Halen
Winger (I think he was there)
Ratt
Night Ranger
Joan Jett
Kiss
Donna Summer
(the last four were on my friend''s dad''s record label. She was my best friend in middle school. I got to see Kiss without make up way back in the day when they really were hiding their identity. I was maybe 11 but it was cool).

I know there are tons I am missing, used to go to the LA Forum and see shows all of the time.
I was at some concert in San Francisco, Day on the Green, and one called Cal Jam Two, and tons of rock groups played who were awesome. It was like a festival and one act after the other played

Saw Motley Crue when they were still playing clubs in LA

Bon Jovi
Madonna
Bruce Springsteen
In Sync
Britney Spears
The Who
The Rolling Stones and the Corrs, who opened for them...thought the Corrs were awesome
Bette Midler
Elton John
Billy Joel
John Denver (he actually put on a great show in LA, years ago, I was dragged to it but he was great)
The Eagles
Van Halen

I do feel sad seeing some of these ultra talented people now try to hit notes they cannot hit or having them change the song down an octave or two. Really sad, aging affects all of us.

Bon Jovi x 2 - absolutely brilliant! I am convinced Jon''s smile could light up the stadium without any other electricity!
Bryan Adams - also very good
Roxette - not bad either

I wish I''d gotten to more. I really want to see Tim McGraw when he was in Puyallup one year but I was going to be 8 months pregnant at the time. I was so bummed! One day...........

so true! in the case of new order, i find it amazing they lasted as long as they did considering how they got their start. as for FI, i think his favorite story in life to tell people is that he got to hear bernard sumner say the f word in person, haha!!

The Stones. Steel Wheels tour 1989. 23 song set!
