I''ve seen A LOT of great concerts, but my absolute favorite was Simon & Garfunkel in 2003 at the United Center in Chicago. I think I loved it so much because S & G has been the soundtrack of my life, and they are quite frankly my favorite group ever.

Other great live shows:
Journey (and I''m not even a huge fan, they were great!)
Indigo Girls (of course)
DMB
Guster
James Taylor

We saw John Mellencamp a few summers ago at Summerfest and we LEFT after four songs! He was THAT bad, honestly. I was so very disappointed.

Great thread!

The best concert I''ve ever watched was Linkin Park and Coheed and Cambria! They had incredible energy and did a double encore. The singer Chester Bennington was everywhere at the same time pumping up the crowd.

Paul McCartney...just loved seeing him!

Bare Naked Ladies was the best concert I have ever been to. I had a free ticket and went, not owning a single cd of their''s. (CDs were still purchased waaaaaaaay back in the 90s.

I went into the concert because it was free, I walked out a true fan. They were the single most entertaining group I have ever seen. They were just plain FUN. They did songs that pieced together everything from the theme to Titanic to the muppets doing NEAR....FAR on Sesame St. I was super impressed with their creativity and range. Plus, it''s always fun to throw "kraft dinner" as my Canadian brother in law calls it.

I also loved Bryan Adams as it was my first concert ever. (I was soooo excited! It was when "Everything I Do" was a hit.)

My favorite band of all time is probably the Allman Brothers. They were great in concert but...Duane was dead long before I was going to their shows! I suspect I missed out a bit. Plus, their shows are all a bit *ahem* haaaazzzyyyyy in my memory.

Hmmm...digging back in the archives, here are shows that I''ve seen in the past:

Sting
Jonny Lang
Chris Botti
Brandi Carlile
Billy Joel
Billy Joel/Elton John
Duran Duran
The Police
*NSync
Foo Fighters
Oasis
Beck
The Killers
Green Day
Beastie Boys
Drive By Truckers
Madonna

I''m sure there are more, but that''s most of them. I''m really looking forward to seeing George Michael this summer, as I didn''t have the chance last time he toured (too young). I''m also going to see Tom Petty and The Police/Elvis Costello this summer. As for favorites so far, I''d have to go with Sting and Jonny Lang. Brandi is amazing too. Duran Duran put on a decent show and they were definitely a walk down memory lane. Same with Madonna (saw her a few years back). And of course, Billy Joel is always amazing.

I should preface that I haven''t been to a lot of concerts.

My first was NKOTB - for reference, I was in 2nd grade and my mom took me, haha. I can''t believe they''re doing a comeback tour. No, I won''t be going (but I will watch them on morning talk shows).

The Moody Blues

Dave Matthews Band

Goo Goo Dolls

The Dixie Chicks

Rascal Flatts

Travis Tritt

Pink

Bela Fleck

Widespread Panic

And some jam bands (well, technically the last two in my list are jam bands, but those were big concerts): Joe Bonamassa a few times, Keller Williams...

The best was the Dixie Chicks, hands down no contest. I''d give my left arm to see them again - I seriously considered flying out to LA when I heard they were opening for somebody in some benefit via the fan e-mail. I really hope they tour again.

Second best was DMB - the fiddle player was INSANELY cool. Most of the other concerts I''ve been to were bands that a friend wanted to see and I tagged along. I had no idea what Pink sang other than "get this party started", Travis Tritt was a free ticket during college from the alumni center with my alumni ''rents, and Bela Fleck...well, I had a crush on this guy and he IMed me at work to see if I wanted to go later that evening...I married the guy ;) and also learned that the dude we heard is BAY-la, not Bella. That should tell you how into THAT concert I was!

I''m just not a concert person, I don''t think. Rarely there is a band that makes me want cough up $60+ to watch them play into a huge speaker for an hour and a half.

Oh sheesh, this is hard to pick the best, because I am a music junkie but the best ever:

Tina Turner
Sting
Matchbox 20
Vince Gill
Sarah McLachlan
Natalie Merchant

And I am embarrassed to say:
Clay Aiken

they really perform naked on stage?

Billy Joel
Huey Lewis and the News
Heart
The Steve Miller Band
YES

Am I giving my age away here?

My absolute favorite was U2 about 3 years ago during their Vertigo tour. LOVE THEM!!!

Oh my gosh, The Steve Miller Band was awesome too!!

We are always the same age inside.
31.gif

DF, I don''t think Barenaked Ladies ever performed naked. Even after the lead''s weightloss, I don''t think too many people would be interested ;)

from late 70''s to early 80''s i saw....

Earth Wind & Fire 2x...."i can still smell all those weeds"
31.gif

The Bee Gees
Elton John
America
Spinners
The Commador''s
Air Supply
Eagles
Linda Ronstadt
Kool and the gang
Boz Scaggs

Here are most of the concerts I''ve been to. The highlighted ones were my favorites.

Tiffany and New Kids on the Block (one of the first concerts I went to -- my dad took my sister and me)
Miami Sound Machine and New Kids on the Block (another one of the first shows I saw)
Peter, Paul, and Mary (I tagged along with family friends when I was in high school)
Phil Collins
Bare Naked Ladies with Guster
Billy Joel
Indigo Girls with K''s Choice
Van Morrison (who is incredibly talented but his show was horrible -- he didn''t engage the audience at all)
Jonatha Brooke (we got engaged the same night as her show)
Peter Gabriel
Prince
Madonna
Sarah McLachlan (my absolute favorite!!)
Natalie Merchant (AMAZING)
Trans Siberian Orchestra (my FI took me)
Livingston Taylor (James'' brother)
Queen
Paul Simon

OK Go was also really good in concert.

REM (x2)- Michael Stipe is AMAZING!
Springsteen (x2)
Phil Collins
Genesis - Probably the best concert ever
INXS (x2)
Kenny Loggins (x 4 or 5) - Okay - I''m definitely giving away my age with that one!
Robert Palmer
Pat Benatar
Jeffrey Osborne (x2)
Earth Wind and Fire (x2) Soooooo much fun!
Harry Connick Jr
Dave Koz/Chris Botti/Marc Antoine/Jeff Lorber - tons of talent on one stage
The Monkees (reunion tour in the 80''s)
Huey Lewis and the News
The Go Go''s
The Hooter''s (Philly band)
James Taylor
George Thorogood

The Rolling Stones - many times
The Doors - Many times
James Brown
Simon & Garfunkel - 1967
Janis Joplin with Big Brother & The Holding Company - several times
The Who
Aerosmith - several times
Jimi Hendrix
Country Joe & The Fish
The Fugs
The Mothers of Invention
Prince

The best was probably Deftones, Coal Chamber, or The Cure....

I wasn''t to thrilled with Matchbox 20 even though I love them.

I would love to like concerts but they are not for me. I went to one, George Michael, paid a fortune for *the best* seated area and was driven to distraction by this classless tart - with her cronies, in front of me who would not keep her backside in her seat(perhaps she had piles?
17.gif
). Consequently I saw nothing unless I stood beside my very expensive seat. What bothered me most was that the artist kept encouraging the seated guests to stand. What?

I did not understand it.

I think I will have to become super rich and pay the artist to peform in front of myself and a select few of my friends - no tarts need apply.

The Frames gigs I went to ten years ago in uni were always amazing. The lead singer is the guy from Once.

as in the movie Once? like do you mean Glen Hansard? i *think* that''s his name, haha!

my favorite was live because they''re my favorite band ever, and since they''d been on tour for a while in other countries, i didn''t think i was EVER going to get to see them in concert. when i finally did, it wound up being a FREE show in my home state!! was totally meant to be, haha! DMB was also really good, and i would sell my mother to see the Yeah Yeah Yeahs...speaking of my mother, i took her to see motley crue, and i''m not a fan of theirs, but i have to admit that their show was a total blast!!

Without a doubt...

Prince,
Prince,
Prince, and
Prince

I''ve seen him twice in Toronto, once in Montreal and once in Detroit. He''s so incredibly gifted and an extremely talented and charasmatic performer. I love him!

I used to go to sooooo many shows. Most are more obscure bands, but I have seem more well-known bands, too. Let me think...

The Yeah Yeah Yeahs-such a great show! I have a major crush on Karen O.

Saves the Day-I saw them several times and they were always good live.

Alkaline Trio-I used to LOVE them and I've seen them tons of times, too. The best was when I got on stage at one of the shows and sang 'Radio' by myself. (I fought everyone else off and got the mic to myself!)

Weezer-not the best performers but I still LOVED seeing them.
Bruce Springsteen-I saw him recently and he was so good live! Seriously a great performer. And super buff, too!

alkaline trio is one of my favorite bands and i still can remember the emotional reaction i got the first time i heard them play radio live. no matter how old i get i always revert to the sophomore in high school version of myself whenever i see them and can't help but get all worked up haha. no matter how produced-y they get i always see them when i can, because you never know when they will play goddamnit in it's entirety

i took FI to see the saves the day acoustic tour at the shelter last year - i much preferred their performance there to when they were playing their regular set. it was one of the better shows i've been to.

probably my FAVORITE show is a toss up between jars of clay and piebald, the format and limbeck. the former was a super moving experience for a number of reasons and the latter because it was one big dance party with three of my favorite bands. it was amazing!

also, FI took me to see Don Williams a couple of years ago down in KY. He was my favorite singer when I was five, and it was AMAZING to finally see him live.

I''ve been to a bunch but tied for top spot are Aretha Franklin (a few months ago) and Sarah McLachlan (a few years ago).

Aretha probably would have been #1 if I wasn''t worried the whole time about her health - she has really gotten big - she dropped her microphone and her dress was so tight she wasn''t able to bend over to pick it up =( She also came out later in the show with a Pink''s Hot Dogs baseball cap on, with her jewel encrusted gown (Pink''s is a famous hot dog place here in LA). She then had a bunch of stagehands come out with coolers FULL of Pink''s hot dogs...and hand them out to the audience - I kid you not.

But her voice is still amazing!

Ani DiFranco.
Jewel when she played with the Cleveland Pops orchestra.
The Goo Goo Dolls (only because the lead singer was my first crush, ever. haha)

SO and I are thinking of getting Tom Petty tickets and if we do... I''m pretty sure that will be the best show I''ve ever seen!

I am a total music junkie! I have been to several concerts, and really loved them all for various reasons at the time

New Kids
Poison (several times)
Damn Yankees (my friend had "relations" with the lead singer afterwards :)
Tool
Smashing Pumpkins
No Doubt
Goo Goo Dolls (3 times)
Bush (2 times)
Collective Soul
Counting Crows
Jewel
Rage Against The Machine
Breaking Benjamin
Godsmack
Sugar Ray
Fast Ball
Pearl Jam
Frog Pond (local band hit big for awhile)
Stone Temple Pilots
Candlebox
Tesla
Ratt

I am sure there are more, but these stick out in my mind. Going to see STP again this summer and can''t WAIT!

Springsteen puts on a great show but I am not a diehard fan. I have seen him about 5 times since hubby adores him. I have spent thousands on tickets for him through brokers and gone to see him opening and closing night in Philly twice. Told hubby that while I like the Boss, I do not like him THAT much and to find a friend next time. There are groups I love that I have NEVER seen once!
