The Forum Engagement Ring Folder/Eye Candy

I'm the first to admit that I know next to nothing about coloured stones, but I knew this piece was special from the moment I received it. I don't have any 'technical' stats, but this is what I managed to get him to tell me about it:
- 18k gold
- native cut Burmese ruby from Michael's private collection, no treatment other than heat
- high-coloured white diamonds (I never thought to ask the colour, but they're so white they practically glow in the dark)
- amazing claw prongs!

I helped (as in gave some resources via pricescope yay) to a friend's boyfriend (now fiance yay) rings. But...despite such resources, he went with (gasp!) Blue Nile. The ring's still beautiful We plugged and chugged all the #s and the HCA score (just slightly about 2) and the AGA/NAJA grading at 1B...he took a risk and I think it paid off (the price was right & the proposal trip was coming up fast). She also happened to mention she liked one of the settings (the one mentioned in the subject). This is the current link to the setting http://www.bluenile.com/diamond-engagement-ring-platinum_9917

Stats:
1.81ct ex-ex-ex (GIA)
I-color
VS1
7.81x7.84x4.85
Strong Blue Fluor

I think that's all the stats...we also took a trip to a few jewelry stores today so I thought I'd throw those in later in the post

Oh yea ring size 3.75!

My first post here in this thread. I saw this at auction and feel in love, listed as a 'Art Deco Diamond and Ruby Ring", and had to bring it home with me.

The ring is a little small, so I will have to get it sized. The stones are all secure in the setting, in good condition, but one of the rubies does have a little damage. The centre old european hexagonal cut diamond is estimated to by 75 pts, and a G-H color VS clarity.
The shank has wear to the base, and the millegrain on the platinum also has worn down in some areas.

On the inside of the ring, it appears to have Koch stamped, which I have taken a photo of. Excuse the quality of the photos they were taken using an iphone. Tried to get a close up, my skin looks awful close up.

Despite Hurricane Sandy, Good Old Gold sent my ring a day EARLIER than I had even asked for it! I got it yesterday!

Plan to give it to her on Sunday night! She has no idea I am proposing in 2012, that I shopped for a ring, anything of the sort! (unless she is super suspicious and even smarter than I already give her credit for) This should be a great shocker. After dinner, we will come back to my apartment where my friend will have set up candles and there will be a DVD slideshow playing with a song that we like to dance to in my living room, followed by some Taylor Swift during which I plan to propose.

Until then, just cell phone pics so I can be quite discreet. I will try to take better pics later!!

Hello Pricescopers! I’ve been lurking on this site for years and rarely post, but now that I have a lovely engagement ring, I wanted to share!

I’ve always loved the classic Tiffany solitaire and dreamed of getting a ring in a blue box one day, but after doing some research on this forum, I learned that the Tiffany mark-up would likely be much more than we could afford unless I went with a much smaller diamond. My fiance and I had a modest budget and didn’t want to put a ton of money towards a piece of jewelry. We had tentatively decided on a replica from a Pricescope vendor at around half a carat. Still, I kept thinking “Wouldn’t it be great to have an actual Tiffany ring?”

Then one night I came across a listing on DB for a .55 carat Tiffany solitaire and Lucida wedding band that was previously owned by a PSer. I showed my fiance and he agreed that a second hand ring would be a great way to stay within budget and still get exactly what I want. The diamond looks gorgeous and it is the perfect size for my finger. I absolutely love it and I’m thrilled that I was able to get a Tiffany ring at a reasonable price. I’m not an expert on cut, but the diamond is very sparkly and faces up very white (thanks in part to the fluor, I’m sure).

Thanks again to Butterfly17 for the beautiful rings!

Now that the engagement ring has been polished and sized, time for pics! I don’t have any pics with the wedding band, maybe I will post some after I have it polished.

Diamond Stats:
.55 carat
I colour
VVS1
medium blue fluor
ring size is 4.75

Well I was tempted to be lazy and not write here, but I hate it when people don't followup with what they decided. Additionally, I was frustrated not having enough pictures to see, and to give back I'll post a few of my own.

So the following is a quick rant on my decision making and perhaps some good info on picking a stone.

I weighed the pro's con's of balancing the 4 C's and came up with this.
1) The cut was probably most important. Firstly, I wanted the diamond to be beautiful and by that I mean, with sparkle, fire, brilliance, etc! Secondly, having an excellent/ideal cut makes the diamond face up SOOO much lighter. I don't have any solid scale, but after watching some Good old gold videos (I believe of an IDEAL cut K colour vs some worse cut G's) I knew I could sacrific a bit on color if the CUT was top notch. Thirdly, well cut diamonds typically have better dimensions.
Dimensions I tried to follow:
Table: 60-70% : Love the smaller table. You also know if they sacrificed yield for cut quality it should be well cut.
Depth: 70-75%
LW Ratio: 1.00-1.04
2) With clarity, i honestly would have gone up to I1 had it been somewhat eye clean, but I typically searched from VS1-SI2.
3) Color: This is where I changed my mind a few times. Initially I definitely didn't want anything lower than a G (based on reading here and elsewhere), but as I said earlier, after looking around and factoring the face-up whiteness of good cuts I bent a little here. The main reason is SIZE! Lets be honest, would any of your girlfriends really say, "Gosh, it looks like it has a slight tinge of color, or would they say, "OMG It's HUGE!". I know which side I chose.
4) Carat: I wanted to maximize this as much as my budget would allow.
Here's where I ended up:
http://www.whiteflash.com/loose-diamonds/princess-cut-loose-diamond-2774478.htm

An AGS Ideal cut 1.222k I Color VS2 Princess. 64% table, 74% depth.1.02L/W ratio. ($5700...worth it in my opinion).
Forgot to mention, it also has Strong blue flourenscence...some say it brings color up maybe a half/full shade.

Finally, the setting. I looked at everything under the sun, and the Vatche Princess was by far the best I could find. Nice and low set, Excellent craftsmanship, Fabulous stones in the prong supports.
Here's a few pics! (Size 5.5)

I am finally a married woman, well at least on my hand I am! Since I received my new VC Emilya halo I haven't gotten around to getting a wedding band. I posted a thread about what everyone was doing since at the time many people were getting the Harry Winston inspired halo. While it was helpful to see what others were doing, it didn't really provide many options.
Link to thread: https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/what-wedding-band-do-you-wear-with-your-hw-inspired-halo.167089/

Finally I did decide that after years of having a non matching set I would actually bit the bullet and get the matching eternity band. With this style ring I really feel that it has to match and be understated so the halo is the main focus. But I still wanted something blingy so an eternity was my final decision. Now the hard part. I was prepared to spend the several thousands of dollars I knew that a hand forged ring would be. I wasn't thrilled about it, but I was on that path. Then everything was blown out of the water as I fell in love with an OEC and decided that was my project for this year, my very own 3 stone. So my eternity band was shelved. I told DH I would continue to look engaged for a bit longer.

So right smack in the middle of deciding I wouldn't pursue a wedding band I saw that there was an eternity band up for sale on the preloved forum. It looked strangely familiar to a set of eternity bands that I had previously seen on JbEG but didn't have the funds at the time to spring for. Apparently the bands had been separated and now one was back up for sale. The price was incredible and though it was a quarter size too big I thought what the heck.

And honestly I'm totally blown away. Just looking at the rings you would NEVER know that they weren't purchased together as one complete set. If I strain my eyes closely I can tell the eternity band is slightly thinner (1.8mm) vs. my Emilya (1.9mm). I have gotten so many compliments since I started to wear it...and of course DH is thrilled that I'm "married again." I also did end up buying the mate to my eternity and had it in my possession for about 3 hours but decided to return it. My finger size and knuckles just don't work for stacking more than my current set. I was hoping to wear the 2 eternity’s, a spacer and then my halo, but it didn't work out. If anyone wants to be my eternity twin, I know the other ring is back up for sale on the pre-loved forum with the original owner.

Ok so Stats:
Emilya Halo:
2.04ct RB
PLAT

Eternity ring:
18kt White Gold
.42 cts. (G-H Color, VS/SI Clarity)

I know you are not suppose to mix metals, so I do wear a 1mm PLAT spacer between the two bands which is not pictured. Eventually I will upgrad my eternity to PLAT, but for right now I'm not concerned about anything wearing down.

Hi everyone! This is my first time posting, but I’ve been lurking for many months on PriceScope trying to soak up as much knowledge as possible. I got engaged in August and was allowed to pick out my own ring and my journey has taken me from a diamond dealer in Toronto that only carries Gem Scan certificates, then eventually to Blue Nile where I tried to find the cheapest diamond with the highest specs, and then to PriceScope, and then finally to James Allen. Thanks to the community here for sharing their knowledge and to JA for the ring and their excellent customer service! And now, without further ado, here are the specs:

Vendor: James Allen
Diamond: Round Brilliant / 1.01 Carats / G / SI1 / GIA Cert / XXX
Depth: 60.4 Table: 59.0 Crown Angle: 34.0 Pav Angle: 40.6
HCA Score: 1.0

I'm calling this our 10 years together mini e-ring upgrade ... my ultimate dream would be 2cts in white gold/plat in Tacori 2578 - but as my existing wedding band and eternity are set in yellow gold, I thought I'd better stick with yellow gold for now. Maybe in 10 yrs or so, I'll go for the full change over, but for now, this is enough of an upgrade for me from my existing 0.75 Flanders. I'm not really one for MRB's but there is something about AVRs that are so attractive!

I can't wait to pick this baby up!

She arrived today in all her BGD glory box and all!
Thanks Xiriah!!!!

I am thinking of wearing it as in the pictures. I think it makes an ok stack.
I wear my 5 stone on my RH so this is the only place for it!
Can't wait for the slightly cooler days so there will be less muffin top!

I am a sucker for emerald cuts. In the past few years I've upgraded my EC diamond 3 times. First I had a 1/2 solitaire and eventually traded that in for a new ring and a .71 EC. The shank on that ring split twice in a few months so I asked the jeweler what they could do for me. The offered to make me a new ring in my size at no charge. I thought since I'd be moving my EC I may as well see about upgrading it at the same time. I had a limited budget though so looked for something in the .90 carat range.

I got an EGL G VS1 (the dealer rated it as J VS2). It is .90 ct. Dimensions are 6.11 x 4.66 x 3.21. Polish and symmetry are excellent. No fluorescence. Table 66%. Crown 14%. Girdle medium. Total depth 68.9%.

My .71 ct was rated F Si1. I can tell this diamond has some warmth to it compared to the .71 diamond but it faces up white.

My husband proposed with a beautiful 6-prong Tiffany style solitaire on Christmas eve 2010. I absolutely loved my ring and was so thrilled to be spending the rest of my life w/ my best friend. A 6-prong solitaire is what I told him I wanted but a halo is what I always had on my mind. I thought the solitaire was the way to go b/c they're classic beauties and they're timeless. I thought I might get sick of the halo look and change my mind about it.

Over the course of the last (almost) 2 years, I wore my solitaire happily but noticed some prong damage over the last few months. I knew I had to get them fixed soon, and plus I had to get the ring resize b/c it started falling off. I was telling my husband that I had to make these changes and kind of joked about resetting my stone into a new setting. His response was, "Sure! Whatever makes you happy!" I was so surprised. Over the last month or two, I decided on resetting into a halo. Ideally, I wanted a Victor Canera Emilya, but that was definitely way out of my budget, so I gave my buddy, Yekutiel from ID Jewelry a call.

So, last week, when my brother and I went to buy an engagement ring for his to-be fiance, I asked Yekutiel about halo settings. He pulled out a few that he recommended based on my PS-standards, and I fell in love with this one setting. It just so happened to be perfectly sized for my diamond. He plopped my diamond in, resized it and it was ready for me to pick up the next day.

I'M THRILLEDDDD with my new setting. Yekutiel is THE MAN and always delivers in customer service and quality of products. He was actually nice enough to place a CZ in my old setting, clean it up and buff the platinum for no additional cost. Again, he's the man!!

Without further ado, here's my diamond's new home!!!!

When my husband and I got married, I wore a tiny cross that my parents gave me when I graduated high school to the venue (I wore my grandmother's jewelry for the wedding and reception) and I lost that cross on my wedding day in 2008. It was my very first real diamonds and I was absolutely heartbroken! For my 25th birthday, my husband wanted to replace that necklace. I got a bezeled OEC pendant from Jewels by Erica Grace and they were such a pleasure to work with. The necklace is perfect and I still wear it half of my days...the other half, I wear my tiny cross! We found it years later (in the change compartment in my car of all places).

We loved working with Grace and Erica on my necklace, so I knew they were the people we had to work with on my new e-ring. I have always wanted a halo for my e-ring, always just adored antique diamonds, and I have my dream engagement ring on my finger now all thanks to Grace, Erica, and of course my wonderful husband!! He is a real keeper . Grace was extremely patient and answered all of my questions quickly and with kindness. I couldn't be more in love with this ring!! It sparkles like mad and throws off some of the most beautiful, colorful fire I have ever seen. It's hard to capture its beauty in a photo, but I tried with a few below...enjoy!!

These were all taken with my iPhone camera, so they aren't the best, but they will do for now!!

My fiance let me pick out my own ring and I'm VERY happy he made that decision. I learned a lot in the process and lots came from the forums. Thanks for the inspiration everyone! TCW 1.40

strong blue florescence
64.5% depth

Setting:

I love the florescence due to the fact that theres no sign of it at all unless its under a black light. When I originally seen this Marquise online I was curious to see a strong florescence in a high color like F. I was presently surprised. Its like it glows.

Just wanted to post an update about the high fluorescence in a F color. I went to go get it appraised yesterday. i was very happy with the outcome. i asked the gemologist about the fluorescence. he said it DID have a negative affect and showed some cloudiness. i asked him if he could see it with his trained eye or just under the scope. he said it was just under the scope. ive never seen any cloudiness so i was surprised to hear about it. i have seen a faint blue hue (which i think is really really neat). even with what the gemologist said about the negative affect with the fluorescence i would still HIGHLY recommend purchasing a strong blue fluorescence diamond in a high color. i am no diamond collector, im not one with mounds of money and this is my first diamond. im very proud of my marquise. when i purchased it i knew i wanted to make an investment and and investment is what it is. i paid 3500 for the whole thing. the appraisal came back at 14000. the appraisal is another reason why i would highly recommend a strong blue florescence. we purchased this from blue nile.
