Perfect ring and setting

Nawar, your ring is featured on the PS Hangout sidebar and caught my eye. Gorgeous setting!

AsscherArt, I love Asschers (always fascinating) and your stone size and air line setting are fabulous!

I started a small thread with pictures of my finished engagement ring RE-SET my husband and I did together for an ANTIQUE HALO TRI-WIRE WITH AN AIR LINE AND MELEE but it wasn't inclusive of much information. The post was more of a, "look, look what I just got back from Victor Canera, I'm so excited and don't know what I'm writing, but look!" I would like to post a little more info and maybe not as many photos, but several, so if anyone ever is looking for an air line halo (I wish I would have known sooner) they will have more examples. I really love mine!
First off, my previous ring (I'm still trying to find photos with the center stone in it) was a thin pave band - beautifully made and lovely with diamonds on the profile, but around 1.8 or 1.9ish mm. The side profile of the shank was not thin or anything, but they did drill holes for the pave - for perspective buyers, a band of that mm is far better without the drilled holes if you are worried about slight or moderate bending or even just conforming to your hand, etc. it doesn't bother some and for some it gives it character if it isn't extreme. :))
My center stone is J but faces up white with hints of vanilla when the light hits it at different angles. It is a VVS1 in clarity and totals 2.5cts and was purchased from BLUE NILE (the have some really beautiful diamonds if you do a bit of research and looking around). :read:
For those looking at ASSCHERS they face up a decent bit smaller than other stones because they are deeper. Hear me out, IT IS WORTH IT, but they typically look better as they get bigger since it is easier to see the lovely cuts. I have a pair of 1 ct. tw. earrings and they are the same clarity, cut and color (lovely) but you can't really tell they aren't princess unless you get fairly close. :eh:
The setting was done by VICTOR CANERA. He is truly an artist and his HAND FORGING technique makes a noticeable difference in the quality and weight of the PLATINUM portion of the design. It is stunning. He also uses MELEE which also makes a big difference in ANTIQUE STYLES. The diamond is bezel set and then surrounded by a thin line of space (AIR LINE) and then is surrounded by the halo set with melee. I will add that if you love opening a presentation, Victor really does a spectacular job at making you feel extra special. It's like a package for royalty with all the velvety boxes, and little packages for everything - it's hard to describe and there's nothing like it and I have received a lot of packages lol. :shhh:
I really can't wait to get a new band , hopefully Victor will agree to make it! I will start a thread for that since I am wanting something that I can wear alone or on a separate hand that is tri-wire with some diamonds sprinkled in or an antique diamond design stretched across the top of the finger.

Kylie,
Welcome! Thank thank you for sharing; your EC is gorgeous!! There is just something special about step Cut Diamonds!!! I love them...they're my favorites!!! I am in love with mine, as well!! Love the specs!! That's an impressive stone!! To get accurate perspective, what size is your finger?
Congratulations on your engagement!! Wear it in good health & keep sharing photos! I hope you will start a thread (if you haven't, already) just for your EC!! There is a thread specifically for step cuts...hope to see you there, too!!!
Many blessings for a lifetime of happiness! I'm certain you will have even more fun shopping for a wedding band to compliment that beauty!!!
 CRM

Just curious: do you know the dimensions of your EC? It looks as though the PxW ratio is on point (between 1.4-1.6:1). Can you share those details?

Kylie, Cingradulation in your engagement and on getting such a beautiful ring! Your ring is perfection. Enjoy this very happy time in your life. What a lucky girl you are, the Cubs win last year and you get engaged this year!
I'm also from Chicago and loved your pictures!

Thank you for all the kind words! My fiancé did fantastic. I told him I wanted solitaire and a cut more unique than just a round, and this is what he picked out all on his own! I don't know a ton about diamonds, but looking at my ring's certificate, the ratio says 1.42. The measurements say 8.79 x 6.17 x 4.12. I'm really tiny. In these pictures you see, my ring was a size 4. I recently had it sized down to a 3.25 because it was just way too big. I think being so small makes the diamond seem that much bigger, haha!

Thank you!! I love it so much, and you're so right about the Cubs! I was lucky enough to be at game 7 of the World Series, so I couldn't ask for a better year, haha!

The proportions are perfect!! Would you mind sharing the mm size of the stones? I love the look of this ring

Hi mochiko :)

It took me a long time to put all the stones together because I wanted their proportions to be exactly right. And it occurs to me now that I got the overall stats slightly incorrect when I typed them above. It's 2 x .16 (not .17), 2 x .26, 2 x .41 (not .4) and 1 x .63. Same total ctw, just got a couple of them wrong. The correct stats are in my original post about it tho.

Anyway, the mm sizes are - 2 x 3.4, 2 x 4.1, 2 x 4.75, 1 x 5.5. If I could go back in time, tho, I would make the center stone slightly smaller, to compensate for it being closer to the eye when you look at the ring from above. It makes it appear slightly larger, so - even tho the mm increase is even from stone to stone, it makes the center stone look slightly larger than the expected increase (does that make sense?)

So, if I could do it again (and I'm OCD about jewelry, so I WILL do it again), I'd put in something more like a .55ct stone - something in the 5.3mm range. If you want to do a ring like this, keep its position relative to the eyes viewing it in mind; it makes a difference.

Hope that helps! :wavey:
