The (Lighthearted) Bling Rant Thread

I’m all of that but 5’6”! Size 10 shoe, 7 glove, 8 ring size. And tiny ear lobes. Short neck, big boobs, very short waist and linebacker shoulders. I wish to be dainty, but it is not to be. And the knuckle problem is starting to rear it’s ugly head….

I’m the shortest here at ~5’2”, but I too have large hands and feet (my hands are 7.5in around the knuckles, 9 US shoes) though with relatively average fingers (US5.5-5.75) that somehow are thicker at the knuckle but yet somehow tend to pudge (?!), short neck (but thin - choker length is 13.5-14” at the base of my neck) - and the biggest earlobes known to man. My friends call me Hobbit because of the hands and feet.

Have you tried ear support patches? I know it’s inconvenient for daily wear, but for special occasions perhaps?

I have bling dots and they do help with drooping but not the uncomfortable feeling I get from the weight.

Another thing that isn’t practical for daily wear but that you could use for going out / fancy earrings are “ear chains”! They’re basically chains that wrap around your ear and distribute the weight of the earring across the entire ear. Very popular with Indian jewelry but you could get a thin, plain chain in WG if you want the support and don’t want it to be super noticeable.

That’s a great idea. Thanks!

This is more of a "body parts" rant than a "bling" rant; and I honestly find it funny more than anything; but my earlobes are ginormous. They're deceptively big, actually. They eat up earrings and are always hungry for more - I have three piercings, and my day-to-day look has a 2ct earring in my main piercing, a 0.4ct stud in the second, and a 0.25ct stud in the smallest piercing. And yet, somehow, there's plenty of ear-estate to go around. I could cram in several extra carats without trying.

I was hanging out with a friend who has teeny tiny earlobes (compared to mine - probably normal sized compared to others) and she was telling me how she wanted a pair of every day studs. (I could see exactly where she was going with this - it isn't the first time). She says something along the lines of "I just want something nice but not OTT, you know? Like a decent size so they're visible, but not super large and taking over the ear. I think 1.5ctw across both ears would be good - is that what yours are? I think that size is just perfect!"

So, biting back a laugh, I told her "ah, not exactly... they're quite a bit bigger than 1.5ctw. Though 1.5 on you would look similar to these on me - they're 4ctw, but my ears are elephantine." I could see that she didn't believe me about how big my ears are - because the rest of me is kind of petite, so people expect my ears and hands to match (they don't) - so I offered them to her to try. When I took the earring off her eyebrows crept up to her hairline, and when she put them on her ear, the entire lobe was covered. Any bigger, and they'd be obstructing her hearing.

She's a really close friend btw, and meant absolutely no harm. Her expression when she realised she'd inadvertently thought my earrings were less than half the size they actually were was quite hilarious. Though I do wish I had her tiny lobes!!

Let's hear your rants! :D

I have no ear lobes. My current ears don’t look like my 12 year old ears which is when I got my lobes pierced. So it looks like earrings are stuck to the sides of my face. :) grass is greener and all…

Anything would look perfect on that model. Just saying. :)

Earlobe rant!
My lobes have become less substantial and thinner with age. So heavy earrings pull and look weird, and most of my studs droop.
I kinda hate the jumbo metal earring backs. I think they are weird and bulky.

So I cut little discs from thin clear plastic and poke a hole in the middle.
Then I use this between my ear and the push back. These discs keep my studs upright, and are invisible.

I have thin lobes too I’m going to try this!

My lobes are large but they are in proportion to my large head and height. My problem is my piercings are quite low so I can’t wear large studs because they will hang low. My piercings don’t droop because I wore earrings infrequently because of a nickel allergy. So, I guess I should be thankful I can’t buy larger studs?

Okay, I got one, it’s related to all the earring talk.

I can’t put earrings in my ears, so I don’t have them pierced, there is just something about sticking an earring through a hole in my ear that makes me queasy.

It is a shame though because there are so many pretty earrings :(2 Just can’t do it.

Oh gosh well I really don't have big lobes, I have tiny little ones. I want bigger ones so I can wear bigger earrings tho...

Finger wise, ...well my hands swell. They can swell so much I can barely wear rings period, including the size 9 rings I have. I have a 9.5 ring and sometimes I can't get it on either.

But I do have quite big hands. Not a knuckle thing just a big hand thing. And I've got a pretty wide span finger wise. Even as a kid I had big hands so go figure, I guess I have my dad's hands...lol I've always been told they don't look big my ring finger is a size 8 at its lowest and goes up from there... They don't get too squishy unless they're swollen. Its just a fact of life.

Here my hands were very swollen and why yes my fingers are squshy here...such is life. These rings usually fit, comfortably, size 8 and 8.5, but they didn't this day!

This is my hand not swollen (same hand, just took the image)

This is how they look not swollen. its not cold here (I'm in FL), and inside the house its currently 77F.

I have giant hands. I’m just giant in general. (6’1) I love dainty, ultra femme pieces and usually they just sooo itty bitty on me. My fantasies of Kataoka…ugh their pieces would just disappear on my frame

I wear a size 8 ring, honestly don’t have pudgy fingers…(no shade, I’ve got curves lol)

But wow it’s so hard to find rings that fit that also feel proportionate without look masculine!

I nearly died of embarrassment when trying on a gorgeous eternity at Tiffany’s - and they don’t even make my size! VCA’s between the finger rings? Forget it.

The standard 16” necklace is basically a choker on me. I tried on watches on Cartier recently and the SA said “Wow, the 36 mm size actually looks great on you - your wrists are smaller than I thought, I thought you’d look better in a 40!” :???: She immediately regretted it

my pinky is an 8, which is either an O or a P in NZ
but my hands are small, can bearly span an octive on a piano
last time i brought a ring from one of the big mall jewlers (they dont charge extra for large sizes - i guess they are already making gazzion dollar profits) it was for my index finger and it was an X, no way am i converting that to your sizes :lol-2:

i have had a couple of trade me (NZ eBay) buys made bigger, the jewler here in the main street said those sizes are actually more common than you think

i like finger coverage so i go with wide bands and ive learnt to stack
i just wish i had the length to go with the width

What is that green stone? I'm lusting.

I read this thread last night and had to chuckle. I think we are all a little to hard on ourselves! When reading the descriptions of earlobes and hands, then seeing the actual pictures, I was pleasantly surprised to see that everyone is so darn cute! To me, the loose skin on my hands reminds me of those little wrinkled dogs that have all the hanging loose skin. :)

I just read through and have had to giggle at some of the images in my mind as everyone describes themselves like a caricature drawing. We all sound like a bunch of misshapen trolls .

Why wouldn’t Tiffany make size 8?? That’s not an unusual size!

Or you could follow my mom’s logic - she has low piercings as well, and she is aiming for studs so large they cover all visible area of lobe :lol-2:

Same! Over the orange too!

Both are Garnets that were purchased about a decade ago. ( might be a bit over...had to think about it because its been a while!)

Every once in a while I get a wild hair to set something then I start looking at setting prices and.... I gotta win the lottery...lol

The tsavorite is 1.31cts the spessartite is 3.47cts.

Hallo there!
Listen if it makes you feel any better, we've made a colony of Hobbiton up here in the woods- because we're all hobbits in this house. We can start a troupe of finger-puppetry or shadow puppets. Depends on the market.
