Never been. The fact that everyone calls it Whole Paycheck scares me away. I don''t have any extra paychecks lying around.

Whole Foods is so popular in Ann Arbor that we actually have 2. They''re like less than 2 miles apart!
They have some expensive stuff that just isn''t worth it and a bunch of stuff that is FAR better than you can get other places & for less money. If you stay away from the prepared foods it is better. Their salsa, pasta sauce (when I''m lazy & don''t want to make my own), and some canned things are very good & priced great.

It really does take looking around and trying stuff out to learn which is which.

We actually only get about 25% of our stuff there since I introduced B to a restaraunt supply store down the street.

J and I like to hit up their wine/cheese bar before we shop. Then we tote our glass of wine around with us while we do our shopping. Its fantastic! All grocery stores should serve wine!!

We don''t have that here. Once a month or so they do a tasting but that''s it.

Isn''t that awesome? Full on wine and cheese bar! I think they have some beer, too. Wine + Grocery Shopping = WF making a lot of money!

I want a wine and cheese bar in our WF!!! OMG I can''t imagine what that would do to my checkbook!

Is it wine that they sell in the store?

NY is barbaric and doesn't allow wine sales in grocery stores.

ETA: Or any alcohol, actually.
Even the Trader Joe's on 14th St had to open a separate wine shop next door.

Yes, they have the wine available for sale. The first weekend that WF opened, we sat at that bar for like 3 hours.

I guess its not really supposed to be a "bar'' but more of a place you can taste stuff before you buy it, but it works just like a bar. We drank like it was a bar.

They have stools and stuff. Its pretty neato.

So bizarre!

Do you guys still have blue laws? We cant sell liquor in MI before noon on Sunday, or Xmas eve past 8 pm, or on Xmas day.

I actually know someone who steals cheese from Whole Foods. Just cheese.

yup! he says it''s too expensive to buy so he makes sure he always brings a backpack

LMAO what some people will do for a good block of cheese. I lovvvve their aged gouda. Its like 1000 years old or something. Smells crazy but tastes sooooo good.

In MA and RI you can''t either
7.gif
Although I think some gas stations and convenience stores have liquor licenses and can sell beer... In NH you can buy anything (B/W/L)in grocery stores.

I''ve never seen a grocery store without beer and wine here. Not all sell liquor though, they need a special permit for that.

thats really annoying! They sell wine at grocery stores in both Maine & NH but not in MA or NY.

We always hit up the liquor store in portsmouth if we''re going up to Maine. That and lottery tickets!

we like to graze at WF on the weekend. They have all of their samples set up and we just walk around grazing for hours...okay maybe not hours, but we get enough to call it lunch! We also go to WF sometimes for breakfast. Their breakfast bar isn''t too bad. They have good bacon.

Hmmm... never had the bfast bar!

We have a sushi bar too, there. Although I''ve never tried it.

okay my loves, I''m out of here. I''m sure I''ll be back at some point tonight though

can''t break away!

I think we have blue laws that have been a little relaxed - like, you can now sell alcohol on Sundays, but you have to sell it no more than 6 days per week, or something like that. Whatevs. And they don''t allow chain liquor/wine stores.

WF cheese is so good. It is a bit expensive though.

We only buy it from WF if we are going to do wine & cheese for lunch/dinner or if it is on sale. For our weekly pizza and other stuff we get it from a different store at 1/4 the price. Can''t tell the difference when it is baked.

Hahaha.

Don''t worry. I''m coming up with more!

DH has had the sushi, it''s not bad...not great either though. I haven''t had it because I''m super picky about sushi and only like certain kinds. What''s appealing about it is they offer brown rice and multigrain sushi.

Do you ever have a question about another PSer that you can''t ask them directly because it might will probably be taken the wrong way?
Sometimes I do...

That''s when I wish there was a "private message" function.

Yeah. I''m generally not a fan of most grocery store sushi. However, I consider WF to be a step above just a regular old grocery store, so maybe I''ll give it a shot.

There''s just such good sushi in my area that it seems silly to even bother. I know it wont be as good as our regular place.

They were considering putting PMs back in... according to some discussion in the suggestion box area.
