what a great post!!!

David- I FINALLY got my husband to get rid of his poor quality Grateful Dead tapes (not original tapes)...Thank god!!!

I'm not a big music person, but thinking about my collection, my favorite is Metallica without a doubt (looking at me, you'd NEVEr know it!!!) I can't live without the S&M and Black albums.

I love the Foo Fighters and Chili Peppers... Just getting into Radiohead...but then I also love my best of Tim McGraw (hehehehehe) and my Al B Sure and Baby Face...hehehehe...And I love all this popular cr*p on the radio!!!

Now that I don't have to be on the down low, I can freely talk about my real music tastes.

Even though I don't have an iPod, I use iTunes to download music. Recently I bought:

Michelle Branch- You Set Me Free, appeared at the end credits of Just Married
Jessica Simpson- 80's cover of Berlin's Take My Breath Away
The Calling- new single called Our Lives, poppy goodness
Snow Patrol- Run, good for Coldplay people- NOT the same as CP
Modest Mouse- Float On, mix btween Pixies and Talking Heads!
Franz Ferdinand- Take Me Out, I can't even explain it
Jet- Cold Hard Biatch, The New Old Rolling Stones
Junior Senior- Move Your Feet, "Everybody Dance!"
Los Lonley Boys- Heaven, great summertime lounging song
Planet Asia (hip hop) has this great tune out called, well... The Greatest

In addition, even though it's not cool anymore I still love Big Beat, which isn't really techno. Chemical Bros, Crystal Method, Groove Armada. Scratch masters and DJs like Dust Bros, Fatboy Slim, Q-Bert, and the Executioners are high on my list too.

The Last Show I Saw... was Five For Fighting with Glen Phillips opening. And my next show is the Mutual Admiration Society, which is basically Glen Phillips with the poppy bluegrass kids of Nickel Creek.

We make jokes about how my husband's laptop is just really an expensive walkman/DVD player, since that's about all he uses it for! He has about 400 songs saved in his Window's Media Player! He takes it with him on all of his trips!

So, we decided to buy him an MP3 player for Father's day! Figured that it would be easier to jog with than the laptop!! Unfortunately he's out of town for another 2 weeks...so I haven't gotten to play with it yet! It's sitting on the dresser...it's so hard for me to leave it alone!

I have very eclectic varied music tastes. I like almost everything but country.

Greg adores classical and 70's soul because he plays multiple instruments.

I love old 70's disco beats (grew up listening to them!) and know TONS of lyrics...it amazes Greg how I can sing along to 9 out of 10 songs the radio from the early 70's to today. I pickup lyrics and tunes from songs very quickly.

I have tons of music, but my absolute most favorites include:

  • St. Germain
  • Alicia Keys (saw her 2ce..once before she was really even famous)
  • Jill Scott
  • Earth, Wind and Fire (seen them 2ce!)
  • Dr. Dre
  • Stevie Wonder
  • India Arie
  • Supreme Beings of Leisure
  • Tchaikovsky (esp ballets)

In terms of specific songs it's diverse as well. I was torn up until the end on what to play at our wedding, so our song list for the DJ looked something like this:

Processional: Starbucks Yoga song from my workout class! The instructor burned the CD for me and it was perfect. 15 min long and was mellow but slow and had rythym.

Recessional: Grease 'You're the one that I want'

First dance song was by Lou Rawls 'One in a Million You' but I was torn because I adore Stevie Wonder's 'As' which is a relatively obscure song but really beautiful. Also up as a contender was O'Jays 'Forever Mine' but I made that the father/daughter dance. I heard India Arie's 'In my Head' a week before and I was torn all over again for our first dance. But I kept One in a Million You.

For the reception we had a diverse list including Mark Morrison 'Return of the Mack', EWF 'September', Black Eyed Peas 'Latin Girls' (Dedicated to Greg by the guys, hilarious song), Def Leppard 'Pour Some Sugar on Me' (from my skating rink days when I was 10!), Tito Puente 'I Like it Like That', Smokey Robinson's 'Cruisin Together'.

The group LOVED it. We had people dancing all night!

Ah! The Elements of the Universe. Got you beat. Saw them every year they performed in the late 70's early 80's. Except for Springstein, they get the award for best perfomance. Fantasy is my favorite.
