The new Twitter, under Musk

And here I thought I was the only one without a twitter account.

Twitter has never interested me. Never signed up. I don't get TikTok either. I also don't have Facebook. I do have Instagram, but largely don't use it. It's mindless browsing about 15 minutes a day normally. I actually uninstall the app from time to time for a full on break.

Uhm ... Musk just "bought your data".
These SM business are creepy and evil. :knockout:

Ironically, when Google started IIRC their corporate mantra was, "Don't be evil."

In theory if you close your account everything is erased after 30 days. I closed more than 30 days before Elon got the keys. Hopefully he didn’t get my data. But who knows?

I don't think he will let insane/evil people say what they want on his platform but I think news like the one about you know who's laptop will not be supressed like in MSM.

Apparently in the two days since he took over, racist speech has increased 500%. So it seems some have taken his ownership as an open invitation to post hateful speech. Let's see if he does anything about it.

He is the second-most transactional human on social media and, possibly, the planet. He is not a good guy. He will never (ever) do the right thing unless it benefits him personally in terms of power, wealth, prestige, or social standing.

eah we'll see if Musk remains involved.

Are you going to sign up for the private beta or wait to see how it all shakes out?

Twitter under Musk will be very hilarious...!!!:roll:

Well, he posted a nasty lie as conspiracy theory over Paul Pelosi's attack and has already lost 33 billion in valuation. He fired a bunch of the CEO/workforce and is losing followers.
All of this in record time.
Going the way you'd inevitably expect.get (1).gif

Although I'm no fan of Twitter, I read an interesting Guardian article reporting a mass influx of bots flooding Twitter with racist posts: Twitter trolls bombard platform after Elon Musk takeover

I wonder if those who are behind the bot farms are the same players as those seeking to imbalance/influence elections around the world, also via false/inflammatory social media posts. What a wacky world!

What you fail to understand is just how much these lies and conspiracy theories have hurt this country.

Things are already going the way many of us here expected them to go with Musk and Twitter.

I just heard Musk has dissolved the Board of Directors of Twitter and is now the SOLE director of twitter.

Yes yes, all I do is fail to understand :lol-2::lol-2::lol-2:

Except some of these so called "conspiracy theories" were proven true two years later.
Let's see who's gonna pay those people who were fired for not getting a jab that doesn't stop the spread as previously claimed by all the MSM.

After paying over 40 billions, he can crown himself king of twitter if he wants to.

Those poor board members left with millions (over a billion in one case) in their pockets, more than most people can ever dream of.

No, I'm not active on social media. They'd probably wonder if something was wrong with my account.

Hi,

This morning on CNBC I heard Musks latest thought is to make twitter a subscription service for 33.00 per month. The three hosts, all who understand money said they would not subscribe. He will look to make money. Subscription services have worked out well in some businesses.
First off I liked him. I think he is a brain. Then he became full of himself, and I liked him less. Right now, I think he's a jerk, a showoff, and thinks a bit too highly of himself. He has sired ten children with different women. He can't be a good dad. He probably isn't a great human being.

So thats what I think. So there!

fake news, it's 20$ per month:lol: (allegedly)

It is $20 per month for those who opt for the Verified account. For all others who can definitely post or browse without requiring a Verified account, Twitter remains free.

@smitcompton, Thank you for posting this. Wow $33 a month. Years ago I had a favorable impression of Musk. My opinion of him has changed a lot over the past few years. I feel about him the way you do Annette. Big surprise there.

Thank you for the info @chrono.

I am POed at the Saudi investment in twitter and keeping fingers crossed that Musk is held to account if it is found to be a national security issue.

From an AP article:

On Friday, meanwhile, billionaire Saudi Prince Alwaleed bin Talal said he and his Kingdom Holding Company rolled over a combined $1.89 billion in existing Twitter shares, making them the company’s largest shareholder after Musk. The news raised concerns among some lawmakers, including Sen. Chris Murphy, a Democrat from Connecticut.

Murphy tweeted that he is requesting the Committee on Foreign Investment — which reviews acquisitions of U.S. businesses by foreign buyers — to investigate the national security implications of the kingdom’s investment in Twitter “We should be concerned that the Saudis, who have a clear interest in repressing political speech and impacting U.S. politics, are now the second-largest owner of a major social media platform,” Murphy tweeted. “There is a clear national security issue at stake and CFIUS should do a review.”

Hi,

Prince Alwaleed bin Talal has been a US investor for many years. He has been an owner of twitter for many years. He was a major holder in Citibank and stuck by them during the financial crisis. I very much like him. He was arrested by the Butcher and said to have been tortured to say he was stealing from him and had to give some control of his company, The Kingdom, over to the crown prince, aka the Butcher. He disappeared for many months. I actually contacted the Saudi embassy to object to his disappearance., demanding they release him. I wrote to them several times asking where he was. No reply.

So yes, the Butcher has his hands in prince Alweeds company, but I remember him in a very good way. I was worried about him. It was rumored that Kuchner gave the Butcher info that led to the arrest of the wealthy in Saudi Araboa.(i CANNOT VERIFY THE TRUTH OF THAT STATMENT, BUT i DO KNOW THE RICH HAD TO GIVE THE cROWN pRINCE SOME OF THEIR WEALTH.

Tweet thread from Calvin Wong Tze Loon that I think perfectly sums up what’s happened with Musk and Twitter:

“elon did not 'buy Twitter'

he impulsively made a ludicrously overpriced offer on Twitter

signed a contract that put him on the hook for that exact amount

tried to back out but was sued BY TWITTER to complete the buyout at the ridiculous price

and is now in a deal where-
the worse tesla performs, the more debt he's in, and the worse Twitter performs, the worse tesla performs because Markets.

his actions = a guy with no impulse control suddenly at risk of losing his shirt and doing damage control

the dog who caught the car.
all this ****ing ridiculous oh he has a plan oh he has this motive - he's a redditor with a huge loan he has to service to the tune of a billion dollars a year and no one to tell him no. he's trump if he actually had some money. there's nothing to ****ing analyze.
social programming lies to us that rich people 'deserve' to be in their position, through skill, talent, or wisdom.

rich people get rich because they took a small fortune and turned it into a huge fortune

trump and musk are man children whose only talent is throwing money away
'he can fix twitter' man can't fix a ****ing car window or make a door that opens.

he's going to fix one of the largest and most complicated social networks after dissolving the board and firing all the staff?

suuuure jan.”

not as speculated by garbage media.

I'm not sure it was speculation. Musk changes his mind on a dime. Now Twitter Blue will be $8 a month, over the current price of $4.99. That doesn't mean that initially he wasn't planning on charging $19.99/month as reported. He probably had to drop the price due to pushback.

I think it was speculation, that's why I put the words (allegedly) next to it. Look who the MSM quotes as the source. ;)2
Yeah that became clear when he started publicly begging Steven King himself for $8 a couple days ago. Old news

Until today, everyone was in the 20$ wagon, I haven't seen the post you are talking about but I'm bad at navigating Twitter as a non user.

I deactivated Twitter the day it was announced (months ago) that Musk was going to try to buy it. I source information from all over the web including other social apps that have nothing to do with meta or Twitter, where things show up much faster. My particular source for this was a tiktok creator who posted the Twitter thread started by Steven King. I’m sure it’ll show up on Instagram tomorrow and then trickle down to Facebook by…Monday or so. Lol

I have a friend who works at Twitter. Layoffs are happening already before the official notice because workers cannot login to their work email anymore. This feels very surreal, he says everyone is anxious and emotional.

Is this legal?
