The obnoxious I want to show off my new camera thread

4 carat spessartite. I swear, I never realized how included all of my gems were until I got this camera. I like this shot as you can get a glimpse of the luster.

TLspesspearnewcamera.PNG

My other mahenge trillion (1.77 carats). This is a tad bit more sleepy than the trillion at the beginning of this thread, but it's more red than that one too. BTW, this latest set of photos was all taken in the morning in my car, in sunlight.

I love the new photos, and I'd be tempted to run out right away and buy the same camera you just bought, since my photos are always so awful, but I suspect you have a lot more skill to begin with. Maybe 40% new camera, 60% TL photo-taking mojo? :appl:

Aw, c'mon, like TL's pics weren't great before?!!

I have been making the most pathetic attempts to take photos and every time I end up with this teeny blurry thing in the middle of the frame - and not necessarily true to color at all. I took pics of one of the tanzanites I have which is violetish blue, and the camera flat out lied and showed a deep royal blue.

Aw, TL, I aspire to take photos as good as your bad photos!

As for your new ones, what astounds me is the clarity of every aspect of the stone - you can see the faceting, you can see the color flashes, inclusions and reflections so clearly. Did you take this set from your car as well?

Thanks Minousbijoux.
The photos were terrible before, and I really had to struggle capturing in-focus shots and accurate color, but I did try.

All these photos were taken in my car as it tends to diffuse the sunlight a little and the interior is grey and neutral. I find the car is my favorite place to take gem photos.

This Nikon s6000 model was recently discontinued, so you might be able to find it on sale at Costco if you're near one.

Trust me, it's not 60% TL mojo. I have stones I sold in the past, that people retook photos of, that I could never ever make them look as good as they did in their photographs, so my hats are off to them. I think I've gotten a little better with photography since I joined PS, but honestly, there's only so much you can do with a point and shoot.

Every stone looks so yummy I would like to pop one into my mouth! These are the best pictures you have taken to date. The clarity and the vividness of colour make every picture so alive.

So clear and pretty, and I love your stones too.
Your violet spinel is my favorite!!! :cheeky:

Thanks Kenny!!! That's a huge compliment coming from you, the master of photography!!
Which violet spinel? I have about four in this thread.

The first pic posted.
Besides the hue, I love what it does with light.

Thanks Chrono!! That's so sweet of you.

Looks like you made a great choice for a new camera. I particularly like your shot of your chrysoberyl.

Thank you Cind11!

Here's a new photo of my spessartite pear face on. See the inclusions??

Well, I got the camera exposure right on this one at least. It was coming out washed out and overexposed in the catch all thread due to the black background in the ring box, but I played with the exposure, and it came out more true to color. I couldn't take a photo of these on my hand because the pears kept falling out.

This is my new planned three stone, 4 carat spinel center (9x11mm), and 1.1 carat spinel sides (9x5mm). It was lucky to get this pair as I bought them separately, at different times. 18K yellow gold. This photo was taken in my den, in natural diffused light.

I can't wait to get these set.

Lovely photos. My favourites are:-

Chrysoberyl - it's so bright in the photo it actually hurt my eyes! That's a good thing by the way!
CC Spinel with bubbles - gorgeous - very envious of that one
Your new idea (oval with pear sides)

I love the new setting idea. I really think those colours work well together (not dissimilar from your trilliant bypass ring but more oomph)! Can't wait to see that one done.

Well worth throwing your old camera into the washing machine!

p.s. Amguy - lovely to have you back. Don't go awol again!

Thanks LD, if you think that chrysoberyl photo hurts your eyes, you should see the non shrunken, non PS version of that photo, and then you should see the stone IRL. I hate to brag, but I really love that gem (can you tell??).

Thanks for the comments on the three stone ring. I've been doing lots of multiple stone rings lately as I think it is a lovely way to save on setting costs, but any of those stones would look fab as a solitaire. I also don't have as much finger real estate, and the multiple stone rings allow me to enjoy more gems on my hand all at once.

Love the new photos, TL - best eye candy in a long time!! Does your Nikon have a red body case?

Thanks Cell!
No, it's just a boring silver case.

Just for LD,
Here's a new pic with lower exposure against a black background of the cushion CC spinel with bubbles. It's Sri Lankan and it's the first spinel I ever bought that made me go spinel crazy. Before I got that one, I thought all spinels were meh. Boy was I wrong!!

1.5 carats. It goes from pinkish lavender to more lavender.

TLlavendercushionnewcamera.JPG

Wow TL! I'm drooling...

Wow TL your stones look amazing, and the photos are all so crisp and vivid. I'm so jelous! :p

Thanks Brandy and Deathspi,
Well, I'm uploading some more. Thanks for indulging my obnoxious pleasure!!

Yes, TL actually does have very grey spinels.

1.5 carat lavender grey, but I like the luster and the cutting. Nice stone.

TLlavendergreyspinel.PNG

Which one of these is not a spinel? Duh!!!!

TLfoursome.PNG

2.8 carat violet color change spinel. It goes more purple in artificial light. I love the high crown on this gem. It has amazing sparkle and luster, and I wear it all the time. Notice the missing melee in the lower right hand corner. Do you see the bubbles in the center of the stone?

The best photo I could get of the metallic luster on my green diamond. All those red and blue flecks in there is dispersion. It's funny how the camera captures it.

TLmetallicluster.PNG

I want to cry because this spinel is so beautiful in incandescent light, but I can't get the camera to properly focus enough. It also has blue and pink laser beams, but the camera doesn't capture that either.

TLvioletcushionincandescent..PNG

A very very included cuprian. 1.5 carats.

TLcupriannewcamera.PNG

Stones in the shade. I don't know where the minty sparkles come from in the chrysoberyl, but I think they're neat. I forgot to mention the chrysoberyl is 3.01 carats.

I had to take this post in strides. I simply want to cry looking at your beautiful stones! They are so awesome! And of course, I am most in love with your spinels!

    I'm usually not a fan of that shade of green but there's something about your diamond TL that captivates me.

Thanks Crasru!! How sweet of you.

Brandy,
Thanks!! Here's a further away shot of that same green diamond photo for perspective.

Gosh, I'm not sure what to comment on first, these gorgeous shots, or the fact that the Caped Crusader has returned to the fold.

Manners dictate that I should address you TL first. These are very nice pictures. Wonderful level of clarity and detail. Please share the camera details with us. If you already have, forgive me. I've been a bit absent here lately.

I am truly heartened to see Amethyst Guy here again. You've been truly missed all over the place. :wavey:
