Thanks for all the support girls.

I do hope that all of us with ovulation issues ovulate soon and get KTFU!!

Fisher, yes, this is the first month I"ve gone without O''ing...one cycle out of seven so far....and hopefully it''ll be the last. I think I should have started to regulate by now, post BCP, so I''m still concerned about all of a sudden not ovulating. I plan to do bloodwork when I get my period, to figure out what''s going on.

I see some posters mentioned girls with PCOS who got pg doing IUI''s and IVF"s. That''s not the only way to get pregnant with PCOS, is it?

Sha- iui/ivf is not the only way to concieve with pcos but it depends on your particular situation ..if you do get periods then u are 1 step ahead..bc most don''t. Docs usually like to try diet/excercise first (even if u r thin it still helps regulate the insulin issue)...then the try using just pills like clomid and BDing normally. They try everything before it comes down to needing fertility tx. So I would def go to a reproductive endocronologist for a consult and based upon exams and family history...they can put a general diagnosis..along with an insulin resistance test. So I don''t want to discourage anyone thinking u will need fertility help bc that may not be the case. Every pcos case is different. Good luck!!!

Mellyjm (and everyone else, because I feel like so many of you have been so helpful and supportive here),

Thanks for your comments.

I've been doing some reading of my own regarding PCOS and ovulation issues, and a lot of times a body just doesn't ovulate every single cycle and it means nothing bad. And then sometimes it does and the charts don't show a clear sign of it. So, for now, I'm remaining hopeful. I don't think I would be given this intense desire for motherhood if it was something I'd not be able to achieve. I know sometimes that happens, but I'm being positive here and I really have no reason not to be.
9.gif

I don't think that I have PCOS, because if I did, I would need more evidence of not ovulating other than just one cycle. And I have the past two cycles, so for all the charting info I have, I'm more of an ovulator than a non-ovulator.

I think that where we (Paul and I) stand right now is that we'll plan to hold out on going to the Dr, and if I still haven't ovulated or ended this cycle by the week of Christmas, we'll try to get an appt. where Paul can go to, that week before we head to Cali. That seems like a reasonable amount of time to wait things out and see what happens. The Dr. office said that to schedule for a consult is usually something they can work in during the course of a couple days' wait, so I'm not anxious to schedule an appt. now. I think that when I do schedule, I'll try to see about whether or not they think it would be helpful to do that FSH testing. They said if the Dr. had any concerns at all based on history and whatever else, bloodwork would be done right then and there.

I'm sure that blood testing does change over time, but for the time being, since I'm not on any medications and haven't had any illness or anything to cause concern, I'll go off the screening I had done the month before our wedding. Do thyroid issues just appear out of no where? I was of the impression that they were more like something that's there for a LONG time and then is finally noticed, as symptoms arise. I guess it can be different for everyone.

I tend to "flip out" over things and over-react, and I really think all this concern for fertility issues is showing up because of that tendency I have. I've read tons of information on ovulation in the past couple of days, and well, it's not uncommon at all for a woman not to ovulate for a cycle every now and then. Most women have anovulatory cycles and never know it because they don't chart. If I get to where it's back to back, well, that would be a problem. So for now, I'm just waiting to see what my body will do, and I'm still charting, too. Good news there: it's been steadily rising for FOUR days now. Whoo hoo, buddy!! Now I'm in the 98 zone (two days and running), which is also my zone for post ovulation. Possibly still not likely that I've ovulated, but still, I hold out hope.

***
And for Sha,

Most women with PCOS are able to conceive, from what I've read. Medications can help a lot and it's much more rare for a woman to have to go through IVF than it is for a woman to have PCOS (or some sort of issue with dropping an egg and having it stick).

***
And NYCBKgirl,

Do some women with PCOS not get periods at all?? Wow. I guess I just took for granted that EVERY woman had a period. Even if some of us are more around the 40 range than the 28 range. For that, I definitely feel blessed. To not have one at all would be heartbreaking.

***
InLuv,

CD1. Girl, here's hoping.

Thanks for the info, nycbkgirl and fisher!

Well, for what it''s worth, I got a dotted line showing crosshairs today.
9.gif

The dotted line is because I took all CM away, in case I was charting it wrong.

My coverline is HIGH though (98.02), so I''m not sure how long I''ll really have the crosshairs (FF has a love of changing O days for me), but for the moment, I''m not sad to see them finally appear.

It''s saying my O day was CD 35, December 1st. That would make today 3 DPO, if the crosshairs don''t vanish.

Fishie - exciting about the dotted crosshairs. Hope they stay there!

In regards to not ovulating - there was a story in TCOYF (I think?) about a couple who had been trying for a while before finally seeking help, when it came out that she hadn''t had her period in years. A doctor told her at one point not to rely on that as birth control, so they were assuming she could still get pregnant while not having cycles. Which you technically can, as an egg comes before menses does, but it''s definitely not good when you''re trying and they didn''t realize! I just can''t imagine not realizing that. Their issue was too little body fat I think, and I do know athletes who just don''t get periods. So there are women who don''t ovulate. I think that the charts I''ve seen of people with PCOS just tend to show longer, more irratic cycles instead of no cycles.

Good morning everyone,

I have little to say for myself since it''s CD5, but just wanted to thank the people coming out of lurkdom to offer some words of encouragement and share information.

Fisher, I really think your being sick at the beginning of your cycle screwed things up in a big way. Yay for crosshairs, whatever you had to do to get them! I''m coming down with a cold myself and thought of you this morning when I got a crazy high temp. I very promptly discarded it as I am now pretty confident of what my pre-O temps should be, plus I was mucho sleep deprived when I temped. Anyway, my point is I was thinking of you!

Thermometer question for all you tempers - how many of you have BBTs that only go to one decimal place? I really liked the precision of two.

Fisher good reading. I think you are RIGHT that annovulatory cycles occassionally are common, and I think Festy is also probably right that your cycle may have been delayed because of your illness. Some women are more sensitive to such things than others, and if you now know that you are a sensitive woman (if you didn''t know that before, hee hee), then it means less worrying in the future if you have longer cycles. You are maybe just a delicate flower!

As for the PCOS information, call me a cynic, but I know that diagnosis is an art form and not a science in many cases where the issue at hand is a "syndrome"... the term syndrom refers to a collection of symptoms that tend to co-exist and someone can be be diagnosed with the syndrome if they have some symptoms or others and it will vary by the doctor. This is different from diseases like cancer or diabetes where there is one sure-fire sign that you have it. As with many other women''s health issues, I think doc''s don''t spend a tonne of time researching what PCOS really is (there is too little funding and not enough interest). Nor is there enough information out there about what is normal for women''s health and fertility--as most of us have lamented at one point or another on this board! So my point is that if you were to gather all the women diagnosed with PCOS and look at all of them, there is probably a HUGE amount of variance within that group in terms of symptoms, prognosis for fertility etc etc... so let''s be careful about diagnosing ourselves and lets be careful about worrying too much about what it might mean even if we were diagnosed! Because you cannot predict.

So I think it is good for us to think carefully about our health and our fertility, but it is also good for us to remember that there is no magic bullet or magic explanation for why it takes a while to get pg. or why it is fast. Many cases of TRUE infertility are unexplained. And about half of the time it is because of the man''s sperm issues. not the woman''s fertility at all. And if those stats I posted above mean anything, only about 2-5% of women will truly experience infertility where they cannot get pg without intervention within 2 years. That is heartbreaking, some of us have dealt with it and have family members dealing with it right now, and it is also heartbreaking for all the other women who are healthy and doing everything right but still take 2 years... but such is life! Not to minimize it, but and Indy so deftly pointed out, we all have our burdens to bear. For some it may be years of TTC, for others the loss of babies, for others poverty or abuse.... it goes on and on.

There''s my deep thoughts for the day
3.gif

DD- I totally agree with your deep thoughts of the day ! :) there are so many different variations and symptoms of pco..its crazy! And I agree that there is not enough research and it amazes me that such a simple issue as regulating hormonal imbalance cannot be handled with meds and that there is no cure for it. There are many typical symptoms that I don''t have but some I do so everyone is different! There was even one doc that did my u/s that didn''t see any cysts at all! It was a very frustrating time to say the least!
Fishy- I don''t think u have pco either..so don''t worry..im also a worrier. And yes there are ppl that don''t get their periods at all! Including myself and my sister. I was on birth control for 5 yrs before I started ttc. But that didn''t help either. So I wouldn''t just assume u have pcos..usually there is a family history of it..my family has a strong line of diabetes so that def. Has a factor.
Good luck and I would def see a doc to talk about all this.

Fisher, yay for crosshairs!

Question for you temp. takers - how long after you experience that dreaded drop does AFF appear?

Thanks!

Festy - I use a thermometer that has only records to the tenth of a decimal and would probably have even wilder temp fluctuations if it went to the hundreths . . .

Hi lll - Regarding the temp drop, I think it differs for different people and sometimes between cycles. For me, the temp drop usually happens the day before AF arrives, but it may start dropping the day before that.

Funny about the decimal places, because I feel like there would be smaller fluctuations if my BBT went to the hundreths. For example, my temp this morning was 97.6, up .3 degrees from yesterday. If my BBT had another decimal place, my temp could have been as low as 97.55, which would round up to 97.6, I think. Not a huge deal, just one more thing for me to obsess about!

Hey ladies!

It''s been a crazy week for me. I have been having major tooth pain, which I knew from experience that I probably needed a root canal. I know that you aren''t supposed to have some dental stuff done if you are preggo, and I still hadn''t seen AF. I wasn''t really late, my cycles have between 27 and 32 days, and I was around 30 days, so I wasn''t thinking anything yet. Plus I totally didn''t feel preggo at all. No symptoms.

I am sure you can guess where this is going- grabbed a test from Walgreen''s to make sure before my dentist appointment- and much to my shock- the freaking thing immediately shows the second blue line- I mean, bright as day, no waiting 2 minutes. I seriously almost took another one, because it was so surreal. Apparently, I am KTFU!!!!

So I have to tell my dentist that I am possibly preggo, but it seems so weird to tell him when I haven''t told anyone else- even DH if you can believe it- he was in a meeting with no phone access.

Anyways, long story short, definitely need a root canal but they won''t do them or don''t recommend doing them until the second trimester. In which case I spend the rest of the day in tears because I am in so much pain, but can''t take anything and can''t get a root canal and don''t want to do anything to risk it. Finally got ahold of my OB/GYN who immediately said it''s all fine, you can have a root canal, you can even take narcotics like Vicodin (which is just crazy to me). Call the dentist and they will do it if my OB/GYN approves it.

Tried to wait it out but was up all night crying- and my DH made me call the dentist and I got a root canal today. Now I feel much better but am feeling guilty. Of course. Haven''t taken any pain medication, btw. Definitely don''t want to unless I have to, even if technically it''s safe.

The worst part is that I totally don''t feel preggo AT ALL right now. Weirdly, the night before I tested I was sooo exhausted, fell asleep at like 6 pm, and the past couple of days have been a walking zombie, plus boobs are sore, etc. Now i don''t feel tired, boobs don''t feel as sore. I can''t tell if it''s just because I feel sooo much better now that my mouth is fixed, or if something is really up. I don''t actually think the root canal did anything, just feel like maybe this is one of those that doesn''t stick.

I know it''s really common for it not to take, especially the first time, so I am trying not to worry too much. There''s nothing I can do, but just feel better writing this.

Hope this sets off a baby chain reaction around here! I am definitely the one most unlikely, so anything is possible. Please send me sticky vibes/dust/prayers, whatever you''ve got!

ChinaCat, I am a lurker here. But I just had to say that is my most fav KTFU storry ever! Talk about bittersweet, I was laughing at the thought of being happy to be preggo but also miserable because of the pain! What bad timing! I''m glad you can get the root canal now though, so all is well!

Congrats!

Coming out of my pathetic, bad-mood lurkdom to say - Congrats CC!! I''m sending many many sticky vibes for you!!!!!!!

Ahhh, Lysser, right there with you, 12dpo, bfn. A*F*F expected tomorrow.

Still, YAY for China!!

OMG! CONGRATS China Cat!!!! So excited for you! I think a lot of people don''t have symptoms right away. I know it''s easier to doubt in the beginning, but here''s to hoping it''s a sticky bean!

also re-posting my question in an attempt to solicit more feedback:

typically, how long after the temp drop does AFF appear or does it vary?

Thanks

Whoo hoo, ChinaCat!!

Congratulations!!

Good that your tooth was fixed, too!

Don''t worry too much yet. I''d take another test to see another line for confirmation again, and don''t forget to schedule that appt. at the OB/GYN.

LOL!

Congratulations.

If the second line came up straight away, you are not ''maybe'' preggo, you are ''definitely preggo - and for quite a bit''

I got my BFP at 11DPO which was CD 24, I didn''t get the second line come up fast and solid until I was nearly 22DPO.

I would guess that you could easily be 18 DPO.

Congrats, ChinaCat! Tons of sticky dust your way! Like others have said, it''s totally normal to not feel pregnant at first. Heck, I still don''t feel pregnant and I''ll be 10 weeks tomorrow. What''s your EDD?

Coming out of lurkdom as well to say CONGRATULATIONS Chinacat!!!! That is quite a story and definitely lifted my spirits today!

OMG ChinaCat!!!!
I''m so happy for you! And happy you are now pain free. I will be sending TONS of sticky dust your way. I''m so glad you are KTFU!! I wouldn''t worry about not feeling preggo, it''s early!

Lulu-- My temp starts dropping 1-2 days before AFF is expected. The first drop day is usually a small drop and the second drop is usually HUGE. My temp then usually continues to drop until about 2 days into AFF.

Amber & LL -- Sorry that your are both having not so happy days.

Fisher -- Yay for crosshairs!!

Thanks everyone, you girls totally made me feel better- and excited! We aren't telling anyone IRL yet (well, except the dentist, the endodontist, the pharmacist, my facialist and all staff, ha!) so it's so fun to share. Makes it feel more real, because let me tell you, it sooo doesn't feel real yet.

Thanks to Amber, Mia, Lulu, Sabine, LittleLysser, Fisher, Pandora, Robbie and Blushingbride!!!

Glad I could make you all laugh! Mia, I think my fave story might still be Lindsey's- who POAS and then threw it in her Louis Vuitton purse without looking at it b/c she was so sure she wasn't preggo.

Fisher- I definitely took another one the next day- and totally thought of LittleLysser who I think kept POAS just to make sure. I have an appointment with the OB/GYN on December 16th just to check for viability. So I will feel much better if all is still well by then.

Pandora- Yes, that is what I was thinking and why I was so surprised. I am thinking that I O'd on either the 15th or 16th, which would put me at like 20 days by now?

Robbie- EDD- not sure? How do you determine? 9 months from when you conceived? Or is it really more like 10 months? If I O'd on November 15th or 16th, then I guess it would be August???? Funny, of course I always said if I ever got preggo, I definitely did NOT want to be in my 3rd trimester in August! It is so freaking hot and humid and disgusting where I live in August. Oh well!!! There is always air conditioning.

Girls, I really really really really really wish each and every one of you mucho baby dust. I know I don't post all that much, and since I wasn't temping couldn't really offer much insight, but I really feel close to you all in some weird cyberspace way. I really want this for all of you- and I KNOW it will happen. Seriously. Hope you don't mind if I stick around here and root you all on. Not quite ready to jump onto the preggo thread, at least until I feel like it's sticking around. Unless of course I have questions, which I already have a ton of! Hope everyone has a very fantastic Friday!

ChinaCat!!! What a great and unexpected story! Thank god your OB told you it was ok to have that root canal. I cannot imagine having to balance the excitement of finding out you''re pg with excruciating tooth pain! As I was opening this thread I was trying to remember if I should be expecting any BFPs. What an awesome surprise! You made my day.

Congratulations and please do stick around.

Amber, your time is going to come! I think your approach with DH is a good one.

Hi to BB and LL and all the lurkers...I''m glad you''re still out there.

Thanks InLuv and Festy!

Quick question: for all of you on prenatals, do you also take an additional folic acid supplement? I have been, but the pharmacist gave me a weird look when I told him that and asked me why. I didn''t really have a good answer, other than because I read it on the internet!

My prenatal is OTC and it says it has 100% of daily recommended of the folic acid. Is it overkill to take the folic acid as well? Can it hurt?

And yes, I will ask my OB/GYN but they aren''t open yet. Just curious! TIA-

China, EDD is 38 weeks from O date or 40 weeks from 1st day of LMP if you don''t know O date. I just take my OTC prenatal with no additional folic acid supplement. I do, however, take an omega-3 supplement as well. Congrats again!

Congrats ChinaCat, that feels so fast for you... I remember you lurked here for a long time before actually TTC, I didn't even know you had started TTC! LOL!! You need about 400IU of folic acid each day, so if your vitimin has that you don't need to supplement, though there is no danger to doing so. If you have a history of spina bifida in your family, then you would take much more. Up to 1mg is probably a good amount for someone who is typical risk.

As to how far along you are, type in "due date calculator" in google and it wil give you a bunch of linkes where you can enter your last missed period date and it will tell you when your due date is! If you O'd around two weeks into your cycle, then it should be pretty accurate!!

It takes a LOT of folic acid to OD on it, so go for it if you are so inclined. I'm having twins so my needs are different but my OB has me on an additional 800IU a day.
