The TRR Rescue Thread: Show your treasures!

I was going to share my TRR find here, proud that I saved a little money on it. I ended up getting 20% off the listed price on their website. It’s one of those brand name silver items I have started to collect and know they are so overpriced.

I received it yesterday only to find it’s too big. It’s frustrating how they size things so I sent an email this morning.

So much for saving a little.

UPDATE - TRR customer service responded promptly to my email and is crediting the return postage $14.95, which is appreciated. However, I don’t see any improvements planned to their listing information.

EEEEEEEKKKKKKKKK!!!!!!

I just pulled the trigger on a VCA bracelet that's been retired for several years and I've always loved but never thought I'd find for sale in my size.

I'm literally shaking right now.

Fingers crossed!

So exciting! Keep us posted when you get it

I have been keeping an eye on this monstrosity for what seems like an age. The price had slowly been dropping, but yesterday it hit 60% off and I decided to snag it.

Amazingly, it arrived today since it was at a store only 22 miles from me, and I gave it a nice, long, much needed, bath.

The setting is still absolutely hideous IRL, but the stone is even nicer than I had hoped. Bright and lively and clean. Cut is decent, but not amazing. Definitely good for the price though. Measures roughly 6.9 x 7mm. I'll be dropping it by GIA next week, most likely. TRR estimated 1.21 G-H VS2-SI1, so we'll see what it comes back as.

Oh I think that diamond has a pretty pattern to it! What are you planning for her?

Beautiful!

I think it's a very pretty stone.

Looks great! That carat estimate seems right. Will be super curious about color and clarity!

Oh crap @lala646 , is that a big chip under the prong??

Yikes, looks like it.

I’m hoping it’s just a weird reflection.

I love buying old cuts second and obvs but it’s so risky, all the unknowns with set stones.

After taking a really good look with the loupe, I think it's just a reflection plus a bit of water residue from washing. But unsetting is when the question will truly be solved, so I will know more next week!

If it's a chip, you should be able to see it reflecting around inside the diamond if you can figure out where to look. I would try this: Take a red (or some bright color) sharpie pen. Put a dot on the surface of the diamond near where you think the chip is--maybe on the girdle next to the prong. Use a loupe to check for where the dot is reflecting. Can you see any evidence of the possible chip near the reflections of the dot? When you're done, you can clean the dot off with alcohol--it will wipe away easily.

OM Gee that is a spectacularly cut diamond. I even like the insane setting, lol. Green with envy here.

Ooooh. Now I see talk of a chip. It might be. Because prong of placement. Hope it’s not.

Will you keep it even if there is a chip? I assume if you unset it then its a keeper.

Looks like it’s single cut melee?

I purchased it knowing it was non-returnable, so it was a calculated risk on my part.

My new bracelet arrived and I love it! I don't want to double post, so pics are in the VCA thread if you want to see...

Good. As you know I’m not bothered by small chips on old cuts as two of the stones in my five stone have them. And even then they were SI2. Easily covered by a prong and totally invisible.

I really do think it's just a shadow from the prong. I'm not seeing any echoes of a chip in the stone, but fingers crossed regardless!!

Yes it could totally be a weird reflection!

Wow, you're brave! Was it a really good price? Are you going to do anything with the melee stones? Are they single cuts?

It was a good price. If GIA has good things to say, it may have been a really good price. Time will tell. Unfortunately the melee are absolute garbage, so I'll just sell the setting for gold scrap which at today's gold prices will make the stone an even better deal.
