The Zircon thread

Careful with the prongs Picante. Could you ask your jeweller for advice?
Would it be possible to set your zircon in a relatively cheap setting so you will have 2 rings :naughty:

Acinom that color is just incredible!! So saturated but not at all "dark". Has to be one of my all time favorite zircons!

And of course the setting is fluid and gorgeous. Let's the zircon be the star of the show, plus those prongs are TDF!

Thank you lovedogs! Chris Auletta was so right when he said this stone was gorgeous.

I have a zircon update as well. My ring by Alistair Kelsey with a blue zircon by Chris Auletta is ready. I am amazed by the colour of the stone and I love the setting.

Another stunning ring Acinom. The zircon is just spectacular. I love the setting too.

Thank you, Acinom! I will have to think about setting possibilities...
How are you enjoying your new rings?

The zircon just arrived and it is beautiful! Even in my not so flattering office lighting, it is so vibrant! It is hard to capture it in a picture, though!

What an amazing and vibrant colour Picante!!!
This stone is truly stunning. So glad you love it.

oh dear me, the pictures I've previously posted of my zircon ring are so atrocious. Here it is again, with some little buddies:

These are much more accurate in terms of color. I always feel like blue zircons this color are such wintry stones, so they're not getting much wear at the moment when it's 100+ degrees outside!

Stunning colour distracts!!
Thanks for sharing your beauties.

Beautiful Lovedogs!!
Such a stunning and dreamy blue. Looking forward to see your pics once you have received the stone.

My new brown zircon.

That's a beautiful brown Vesper!
Your stone seems to have somewhat of a window based on your photo? Do you think it will close a bit when you set it?
What are your setting plans for your brown zircon. Thanks for sharing!!!

I have to admit I have no idea what a window base is.

I wanted to set it in something like this:

I know charm rings are an acquired taste and I have acquired it.

It's the part in the middle where you can see through the stone.

What a fun setting!! I love these settings, but I am not careful enough with my hands. I am looking forward to see how your projects evolves.

It looks strange in that photo. In person you can see all the facets on the bottom and they create a lot of sparkle.

I am pretty careful so hopefully it will be fine. That being said I just smashed a paraiba so I might need to reconsider.

Smashed a Paraiba??? Oh no :?

Please keep us updated on your project. Will a local jeweller set it for you?

Yes, smashed it. I thought I was going to vomit. It was extremely expensive teal dust. ;(

I am planning on having a jeweler who is across the street from my office do it. He has made all of my favorite items and I know will do an amazing job. At the moment he is trying to fix my paraiba band.

Oh Vesper, what a very unfortunate Paraiba experience...

It's great to have a good local jeweller!

I have a zircon question. My wedding band had paraibas and I smashed one. I wanted to go ahead and replace all of the tourmalines with green zircon. I had an 8mm zircon set few months back. My jeweler made it seem like finding green zircon is hard. Is this the case? Sorry, I know this is a silly question but I tried google with little success.

I also got a better picture of my brown zircon. Alas, I noticed a bit on lint on it after the photo was taken.

Not an expert but per my own search, green zircon is not hard to find. I think Jim McMormick has a few for sale. I got one from him a while back which is really nice. I will post a pic of the finish ring when i get chance to take a pic.

That was what I was thinking. I found it for sale at several places. I would love to see your stone!

I believe zircon is even softer than tourmaline, I also think that because of the depth of zircon, a direct replacement might be difficult. If you want zircon because of it's beauty OK. If your looking to avoid a repeat of your experience with the tourmaline you might want to consider green sapphires.

Here is my green zircon ring. I think one PSer(I forget her name :() has bought and returned this stone. I remember saw some pics in the 'vendor and owner pic' thread. I have preference for green stones. So I bought it and was happy with the color. Take me a while to decide on how to set it. The current setting is from leejewelry on eBay. I believe it's one of jewelryhoo's eBay stores? My local jeweler quoted me 3 times of what I paid for the setting so I'm happy with it :).

First one is the vendor pic which captures the color very well.

Under indirect sunlight by window, it turns a bit sleepy.

That color is stunning.

Gorgeous stone Imdoubler!!!
I love a luscious green. Is it a stone from Jim McCormick? Great find!

I get on some of the vendor sites fairly regularly, what size, hue and tone are you looking for? Off the top of my hear I believe Precision Gems has a fairly large one.

I want something either pinkish red or orangeish red. My inspiration is the red zircon ring owned by briolette.

I have this one on the way to me to check.

I love it's size but it's a bit too dark I guess.

Yes that's the one. Wildfish Gems has some in the color range and size your interested in. This one is too dark for what your looking for but I'll post it as eye candy anyway http://kosnargemco.com/listing/385565946/rich-deep-cranberry-red-zircon-from
