Thank you! I got sort of confused when I hit “inquire” since it said are you retail? Would you like to view this stone at a local jeweler?

Normally I feel that way too but since none of them had price tags, I figured hey ho why not?
 
I spotted a utube video with a lovely 5 carat unheated Burma ruby and someone commented “I’ll give you $150,000 for it”!

Depending on the quality, $150k could be a steal for a verified unheated Burma ruby.
 
I did see one at Harry Winston which was approximately that size, maybe a little smaller, and approximately that price. It was beaaauuuuuuuuuuutiful!!!

But I am a mere mortal so if you see any decent “budget” stones let me know ;)2

And I’m patiently waiting the delivery of my stereo microscope with camera. And I’ll either go “ho hum” or I’ll need a stiff drink. I’ll post up some pics either way!

Last night was my first gem lab prac, I was sitting there surrounded by gem microscopic thinking “darn, I should have brought in my ruby (?) to check it out”. We were looking at synthetics, checking out “curved stria, elongated or spherical gas bubbles and undissolved nutrient” none of which my ruby has so...... maybe?
Then if it is, it needs to go in for rehab (nasty chip on girdle facet) and maybe to consider a re cut - is it better to save weight or improve cut? Then off to wherever (I’m in Australia) for a full report.

Sounds like you need to take that ?Ruby everywhere you go. :) I’d probably improve cut over saving weight, but I suppose it would depend on if I want it for myself or if I want to sell in the future. You will have lots of decisions to make!

I just today received rubies from both gemfix and spectral.
Unfortunate come to the conclusion I like photos of rubies.
If I take a photo of the ruby right next to me it's what im looking for. Right in front of my eyeball- not so much.
Weird.

Hmmm. That is strange! Post some pics for us? Which ones did you get? I have been looking at some of the gemfix ones as well.

I won't post pictures - because I cannot represent them well at all.
I reviewed Spectral1607261 and 1704024 because I was unsure if I wanted a center stone or sidestones.
They all show crisp faceting unless sitting on windowsill, then they have a lovely silky haze. They all are more fuchsia than listing shows. But we all know monitors vary! The pair- only one reacts to uv lamp, and the color is not totally matched.
But now that I look at them again- they all look totally different than what they looked like six hours ago. Natural light and artificial. Much less fuschia.
I'm confused.
The gemfix ones 19-572 are the same as above fuchsia wise, but swung less. They are of course more hazy all the time.
The spectral ones are heat with minor residue with lab report.
The gemfix ones are only assured to not be glass filled so who knows what?
 
I find using an iPhone the photos aren’t very accurate colour wise. Here is my Ruby (?) I’ve tried to show the flaw. When you look straight down it’s harder to see.
Also, the stone is damaged, the chip is to the left near02D25C33-B12A-4D80-9AE9-FDAEE9F633C7.jpeg A03ED155-E949-4D30-973C-D3250C948901.jpeg the girdle and there are numerous nicks along facets.
We’ll see......

I think I'm going to order some stones to check out this week. One of the two (or maybe both) from Roger, and maybe one or two others depending on any suggestions you guys might have.

I’m watching the parcel (microscope) tracking info and it’s killing me!
