Thoughts about this lavender spinel?

Hi all!
I've recently been looking for lavender or lilac colored spinels to set in a ring!
I personally don't want anything TOO dark, as I've seen spinels that aren't sparkly at all and dull in daylight.
One stone that caught my eye was this 1.68ct spinel (the roval cut on the left). Here are some screenshots of the video the vendor sent me!

I really liked how it was light toned lavender with few gray shades but what I'm worried is about how it will look like in real life. Would the stone be much darker in person?

Another option I have is this round cut spinel from Jim. Its weight is also 1.68ct (wow, what a coincidence!) and he recommended it for having good luster. I do think it is more "violetish" than a lavender but would this be a better option?

I would really appreciate if you could share your thoughts! Thank you so much ☺️

Hello there! I prefer the color of the roval, though I do like the symmetry of the round. But the round looks to have a darker tone. So if color is your main concern, I'd go with the roval. Good luck! :)

Ditto this. I’m honestly not crazy about the round from Jim. The color looks a little muddy to me

Although that pinker lilac in the middle of the first pic honestly really caught my eye!

Thanks for sharing! Although the round has more symmetrical cutting I guess I'll go with the color I want! :D

The color of the round did look a bit dark to me as well! The pinker lilac does look gorgeous! Kinda reminds me of pink sapphires :) Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

The seller just sent me two more videos of the stone on ring tweezers. Here are the screenshots of the video!
I don't know if it's just me but I'm seeing a pinkish-glow in the middle of the spinel.

Interesting there does seem to be color zoning but the pictures are a bit fuzzy. I do think this is a lovely stone, I actually have a similar roval! Although mine has a huge window!

Does the zoning bother you?

Ooh I'd love to see it! Big fan of pastel purple tones :)
I really don't mind the color zoning at all! I think It adds character and uniqueness

The lavender looks even better in those pix, @viridian!

@Cerulean Honestly, the color of yours is so dreamy and opalescent that one doesn't even notice the window!!

I was shooting for an opalescent lavender / lilac, so I appreciate it!

Not sure @viridian if you wanted some silk / opalescence for your stone, but the same vendor had a few fun ones left. A heart shaped one with a very similar color, although that’s a unique shape…

All look nice and yes; the last round looks violet. It does not look that dark to me as a stone will always darken up in a finger picture for three reasons.

1, it is like looking at a stone in a bezel set mount sitting in between fingers. The color will darken some.

2. The camera is probably right on top of the stone, so you well get a camera reflection off the facets. Rounds are very prone to this. Most cameras are black. Black reflection.

3. The skin on the fingers can create dark spots. Too bad there is not a video.

But pick the one you want. No one can pick for you.

Just light reflecting off the facets.

Yep! I'll try to go with what seems best for me, thanks! :D

Honestly I didn't know spinels could be so opalescent till today when I saw yours! Heart cuts are also very cute :)

These are native cuts, so definitely not perfect but I love the colors! The top one is definitely closest to mine! I wasn’t sure if the bottom leans to pink, but figure I’d share!

Yes I definitely will! Oh and I just noticed, but I really love how you matched your nails with the color of your spinel! Had to point that out

So sweet! I actually really enjoy color coordinated in fun ways! Maybe you can find a lovely color for your nails!

Nice! I actually did get aurora nails that are almost exactly the same color as your spinel:bigsmile: Maybe I should try out some new colors to match my other rings!
