Thoughts on sending diamond to setter

I'm thinking of getting a GOG diamond with a WF setting. It seems most PSers have GOG ship their diamond to them first and than they will have it shipped to WF. I live in Canada. I'm thinking of bypassing this step and having GOG ship the diamond directly to WF first and than I will just receive the final ring once it's ready.

This saves me the trouble of worrying about duties and reshipping a diamond across the boarder and getting the diamond insured. What are your thoughts on this process? Is there anything I should worry about in terms of liability of items are lost?

What did you do to be comfortable enough not to see the stone before it goes to the setting? I want to make sure I've done what I can before I go with this route.

I trusted the folks at WF to tell me if there was a problem. Unfortunately there was, the feather made it unuseable in the setting I wanted. That was a bummer because the folks at WF told me what a pretty stone it was.

Also, if you're picking one of GOG's H&A or branded cut and they confirm it's eye-clean to your standards it's going to be beautiful. Just talk to Jon about what you want, he won't steer you wrong.
