Three stone or Solitaire?

@EClove, I love your ring both ways! I adore the thin shank too. I actually do love my diamonds. I've never had a good GIA stone before. I know it's not much, but I love it. I asked the jeweler if he could shave it down for me. He said he could, but he hated to do that to me, since it was a nice shank. Then, on second thought, a thinner shank probably wouldn't look the best with the heavier prongs.

My shank is also much thinner than PSers recommend but I like the suggestions you got above about wearing a CZ ring for a bit and seeing what you think.

And your stones are gorgeous!!!

@EClove, thank you so much! Yours are tdf!

I finally decided solitaire! I have a few band options already, but my favorite is a plain, high polished band. I'm enjoying my diamond more on its own.

I think I may do a three stone with my .25cts and my half ct. I really would love a dainty setting this go round.

The solitaire looks beautiful!! Looking forward to seeing your 3 stone!

@junebug, Thank you so much! There's no use in letting 3 perfectly good diamonds go to waste, right? Haha! Do you think it would be more expensive to send them to an online jeweler, or local? I'm only wanting a plain, probably 2mm shank setting. This time I may go 14kt yellow with a white gold head. This would be to swap with my solitaire sometime. ;)

@Angie3, I really don't know but David Klass, a popular jeweler here on PS, is known for reasonable pricing and quality work. A plus to working with a local jeweler is convenience. A local jeweler has other expenses, ie rent, salaries, etc so prices might be higher? Do you have a jeweler whose work you are happy with? I'd probably get a quote from both.

I do have a local that I trust. He is very reasonable. I would probably just pick out a simple stuller stock setting and let him get a price for me. Or it would be special to use the gold from my original wedding rings for the shank and let DK make it. I'm afraid custom would be so expensive though. I do have the gold and diamonds :D

good luck

UPDATE: I have so enjoyed and been content with my solitaire. It shows the diamond cut so well! But, I finally found an online store that will let you purchase a semi-set mount without purchasing the center diamond from them. Now, I'm back on the fence about a three- stone, although I'm loving my solitaire! Help a girl out with comments on the new setting, please. The side diamonds are .20 each, and my solitaire is .90.20220811_163322.jpg

go find a nice coloured stone for the 3 stone

This is a tough one! You say you're really happy with your solitaire so I'm leaning towards saying to stick with it. But...the three stone will give you more finger coverage, and the sides won't take away from your center at 20 points each. Ugh, now I'm thinking three stone. I'm no help LOL.

I'm leaning toward the three stone too! The trellis looks as if the center won't sit quite as high, though. I'll be sure to post a picture if I do change settings!

I'd change to the three stone but keep your solitaire setting. People often get tired of a solitaire and go to a halo or three stone. Then eventually they desire a solitaire again. So if you have both settings, you can switch whenever you want!

I sure will! Good advice! We ladies are known to change our minds every now and then, right????lol

@ june bug, We think the same way!

What about saving up for a second .9 ct and putting it in your new setting so you have one of each?

If you went with a lab diamond, it wouldn't be overly expensive.

You could even put a CZ in there and wear it around as a tester to see how you feel about it.

Verrrry tempting! ;)

I FINALLY made up my mind! Since I'm content with my solitaire, and have several band options that I can wear with it, or go plain and simple, I've decided to keep it as is. But, I have found a stock setting from stuller that holds a .25ct on each side to wear as a wrap when I want the 3 stone look. I already have the diamonds. Thank you to the pricescoper who suggested this! I do already have one wrap that I like to wear on occasion, so I feel like this will be a good choice. I'll be sure to post pictures when I get it! Thank you for all your opinions and help!

My ideal 3 stone has a total side stone carat weight of at least the center stone.
All stones on the same level with some tilt away from the center.
what you have IMHO is a solitaire already.

Garry, I am looking to have a small three stone made with some diamonds I have from old rings. The center will be .7 and the sides are .35 ish. I dont want them set straight in a line nor do I want them set way lower than center so I am looking for the goldilocks of settings and what you have described above sounds perfect! 'All stones on the same level with some tilt away from the center'?

Would you have an example of a three stone set this way?

Many Thanks

Forum rules prevent Trade members from posting their own work and pieces, but Garry's website is pretty easy to find if you search for Holloway Diamonds.

I took some screen shots of the three stones rings on his site for reference. One of the listings describes the tilt as 30 degrees.

Thanks Emmy, This is very helpful!

May we see your wrap??

My apologies @motownmama. I just saw this. I actually ended up going 3 stone after all. I'm still longing for my simple solitaire again though.
