Has anyone purchased an engagement ring from cooldiamonds.com ?

My friend who is no longer engaged is offering me his ring for $18,000 - He paid 44K for it 8 months ago.

The ring has a 2.5c Center Stone and 1 pear diamond on each side weighing .50c, totaling 3.5c. The actual ring is Platinum. All diamonds are E - VVS2.

Alternatively,

I was also thinking about buying a new Tiffany Novo for 1.33c. The specs are G VVS2. The price is 15,500

A few questions for everyone:

1. If you are a women: would you like a ring that was meant for anther women? or feel uncomfortable wearing it?
2. Has anyone heard anything about Cool Diamonds?
3. Do you think a 3.5 ring is absurd?
4. any other advise would be greatly appreciated.

Personally, I like the Tiffany Novo ... And it would be from ME.

Thanks for your help - I greatly appreciate it!

IF it is high quality and can be polished to look new, then I think it would be great to get more for your money.

2. Has anyone heard anything about Cool Diamonds?

Never heard of it.

3. Do you think a 3.5 ring is absurd?

Go by the center stone. Do I think a 2.5 ct. stone is absurd? No, but since it is a lot larger than most people around me wear, I would not want one that large.
But if her friends have 2 ct. stones, then she'd probably love it!

4. any other advise would be greatly appreciated

Everything depends on what kind of lab certificate the friend's ring has and what the quality of the diamonds are. Just because he paid $44,000 doesn't mean it is worth that much. And are you SURE he paid that much or is that what the insurance valuation says? They are often double the actual cost of the ring.

Oh, and I adore the Tiffany Novo and would love to have one! That price sounds low for a Tiffany 1.33 G VVS2, actually.

Thanks for your quick response - I appreciate it very much.

I got the Tiffany quote from the Hollywood, CA store 3 weeks ago. The 3.5c ring from cooldiamonds.com is priced at 18K wholesale - it is currently being stored at the store in London where it was purchased. The ring was never worn nor never taken out in public.

My girlfriend is pretty conservative - that is why I was thinking a 3.5c ring is absurd. She likes 3 stone rings the best but likes the Novo a lot.

I just built a couple rings at blue nile and they seem to be right up there with Tiffany .... Personally I do not see much value in Blue Nile if the pricing is that close. I read an article yesterday about how their are a lot of great deals on Diamonds because no one is buying them in this market.

Here are all the prices I received on Tiffany Novo rings 3 weeks ago when I called the CA store while visiting for work. I though everyone might like to see the prices as an FYI ... Thanks for your help - I look forward to everyones input. Thanks!

I won''t have a problem as long as it matches what I like. However, if the ring was completely off and was just purchased as a good deal - I wouldn''t be too happy. I will be completely open to buying a "used" diamond and having it reset if the current setting doesn''t suit me. That is just me but I know some girls that will be devastated if they received a second hand ring whether or not it was worn.

2. Has anyone heard anything about Cool Diamonds?
Never heard of them.

3. Do you think a 3.5 ring is absurd?
I don''t think a 3.5 ct ring is absurd but it is something I won''t wear on a daily basis. I was offered a 3.68 ct family stone but I declined it as my e-ring (one day I will happily accept it though). It just isn''t something I can wear to work without feeling overly flashy. There are other factors though - what ring size is your girlfriend? You have to consider the finger coverage of a 2.5 ct with 0.5 ct side stones.

4. any other advise would be greatly appreciated.
Buy what feels right to you. If you are going through a private sale, make sure you get it independently appraised by a reputable appraiser before completing the deal.

Hiya

Cooldiamonds is a London based jewellery store that sells designs by Vivienne Westwood, Conran and Versace so it may be the same one.

I certainly wouldn''t have a problem receiving a diamond that someone else had, as long as it was something that I wanted. However, I would be upset if I knew the person it used to belong to and wouldn''t want it.

Have you seen the ring, what is your opinion on it?
I don''t know what your budget is but if the cooldiamonds ring is what she would like, then purchase it from your friend and get it reset by Leon Mege so that it is a ''new'' ring.

Also, what is your timeframe here?

Ditto.

And ditto the others in getting an independant appraisal should you want to proceed with the other ring, make sure it checks out to your satisfaction in all aspects.

bump - there is another thread regarding this topic
