I've been in correspondance with Sally from HeartofWater and she brought up a good point.
I'm looking to have a 74 point center stone with either 3mm sidestones or 2mm accent stones.
Which would be best in looking most classic and draw least away from the center stone?

74 pointers about 5.8mm

The main stone in the pic is about 7.4mm.

5.8mm to 2mm, ratio is 34% and 5.8 to 3mm is about 51%. Depends on which you like best.

Thank you StoneCold!!

A quickie paintjob:
5.8/2/2 - 5.8/3/3

I usually prefer smaller sides, but in this case I like the 3mm much more - a 2mm diamond is a very small stone..

Thank you so much!
Yssie, that "quickie paint job" is great!
A 3mm just seems much more substantial and therefore making it a 3 stone, but the way it is envisioned, perhaps an accent would be better?
Here's my photoshop "dream"

I would say around 10 pointsmight work it'll give a nice presence without looking to much like three stone, i think.

check this James Allen ring out, as it has .10 ct each on the side, plus there are actual ring pictures with carat weight of what people bought. hope that helps

and here is one picture of one almost the size of your stone .80ct center

That's perfect! Thank you D&T, now I have a clear visual.
Couldn't have asked for a better example!

Ultimately, it's made me wary of the 3-stone look, so I think I'm actually going to go smaller.

I have color change garnets which would be the perfect size, but it depends on your taste.
Sapphires are very popular as accent stones, but I'm not the biggest fan of blue 24/7, and since I'm thinking yellow gold, the mix of blue and yellow bother me.
