To all the dealers trashing Lab Diamonds

I am out of here too!

DK :wall:

Let it go, Chelsea.

Totally Agree. I wish we could close this thread for more comments. We get it. We know how you feel and you know how some of us feel. It's personal preference - you'll never convince me, a geology major, to change my preferences and no one is even trying to change your opinion. This is typically such a wonderful forum....

I’m not trying to convince you of anything. I had a question about a post and someone responded. Feel free to disregard anything that I write.

@Chelsea Palmer, you are digging up an old thread trying to rehash the same things. People - including you - have expressed their preferences and everyone is entitled to their own opinions. We are all here to help one another, but your constant rehash helps no one. We are not here to entertain anyone by answering the same questions over and over. There is nothing more that can be said on the topic. At some point, it becomes harassing and it needs to stop already.

Dear MissGotRocks, I’m certainly not trying to change anyone’s opinion. I was simply asking for someone to explain something that they posted. Wanted to know what they meant. You certainly have been very helpful to me, and I most definitely appreciate that. My assumption is that any post that I submit that someone doesn’t appreciate can simply be disregarded.

You are correct and it probably will be disregarded. This is an educational site and we all have knowledge or experience to bring to the table - including yourself. You asked someone what they meant about natural diamonds taking more time to make. Clearly, I think she meant that natural diamonds take millions if not billions of years to make under the earth’s surface. That is opposed to months to make a lab diamond in a lab. I think that doesn’t require a lot of explanation. And no, a finished and polished diamond doesn’t come out of the earth that way but neither do labs. They all require skillful cutting and polishing to bring out their beauty. Her post was from over a year ago and there is a chance she won’t see it to respond.
I am glad that you have found some things helpful here to you, but in that spirit, we can’t harangue people over random comments. The differences between natural and lab diamonds are apparent to most, and they make their choices based on how important some factors are over others - just as you did. Let’s just all accept and enjoy what we choose without inflaming others.

I view a earth diamond being cmpared to a lab diamond the same as I do a Royal Oak watch by AP compared to a Royal Oak "Super Fake" coming out of some China factory. 99.99% of people would never be able to tell the difference, I certainly couldn't between the two. They can look identical. They feel identical on the wrist.
They both keep the time (Not that I use a watch for the time anymore...It's just male jewelry).

My wife spent an absurd amount of money for my royal oak when she could have gotten the Super Fake. I'm careful with it, I don't bang it on things --- I treasure it. Would I treat a super fake the same way? Heck no.

The difference between the two, in my mind, is how the CONSUMER reacts to owning the piece. How they treasure the piece of jewelry. How it makes them feel.

It's the exact same thing as BRANDING impacting consumers. Do you think a Hermes bag is *really* worth 10k, 20k, 30k when it cost the company (literally) $1000-$2000 to produce? People get excited about having the opportunity to purchase them, they feel GRATIFIED to be able to spend that money on some kind of wait-list. But it makes the consumer happy. They would not treasure another identical bag the same way.

For many people, an Earth Diamond is "branded" and it makes them appreciate their jewelry more. There is no right or wrong about that feeling, it's just human psychology.

For me, it's very simple. God made it vs. humans made it.

(emphasis on "for me")

I think you summed up your position in the second paragraph: “work harder”, meaning YOU have to work harder to make more money to buy the more

Hello. How a consumer reacts is one thing. There is only one Hermes that makes handbags. There is no identical Hermes bag. And I assume there is no identical Royal Oak watch. Just one Hermes, and just one Royal Oak. Those are brand names. “Diamonds” is not a brand name. Clearly, I’ve touched a nerve with having no intention of doing so. And I am at fault for not realizing the age of certain posts. I had asked a question about CVD versus HTHP diamonds which led me back here. I could not care less what anybody does. I’m simply asking questions. I don’t understand why people feel the need to tell me it’s their choice and what not. Again, I was simply asking questions. What is an “original diamond”? What does “work harder” mean? If folks don’t want to answer, then simply don’t respond.

It was made by Hermes and it was made by the earth are kind of the same qualifiers.

My apologies, but I don’t understand this either. Hermes is a brand name. Diamonds are gems made of carbon. In fact, I’m not even sure what we’re talking about anymore. But please don’t feel any need to respond or explain anything. Unless you want to.
