Okay everyone I think I am ready to buy today. I have been working with someone at both James Allen and UnionDiamond. I know JA has many diamond in stock and they can see and test them. UD does not, they are a virtual diamond place. UD has some great deals and has offered to throw in a free W gold setting for me too (we are picking out her setting together).

So its decision time. Which of these three do you like the most? Keep in mind that Stone A I have gotten some tests on and a picture of...see link below:

The others are part of the virtual supply, BUT I could save some more money and still get what is likely a great GIA certified stone. I am interested in getting a nice H or better color with a VS2 or better clarity on a 1 carat diamond with a GREAT cut (for under $4000).

PLEASE give me your thoughts and I promise I am done bothering you all with my questions! You have all been amazingly helpful over the past weeks!!

thoughts? advice?

better offers?

I don't know much about princesses (I'm a round hound), but would immediately toss the stone with a girdle of "extremely thin to very thick."

Really? I don''t know anything about the girdle. What are you looking for? What does an XTN - XTK mean? is it uneven or something?

Yes, basically. I will leave it to the experts, but I have learned two basic rules regarding girdles:

1.) an extremely thin girdle is prone to chipping (yikes!); and
2.) a large girdle spread like that will make the stone uneven with respect to symmetry and therefore performance.

Agree with avoiding extremely thin.

Also, I''m orthodox on their needing to be seen to make any judgement. See this.

I''d go with the one someone has looked at.

Union Diamond could send for the stones and then tell you what they think of them. I recently worked with them and that is what they did for me. Barbara sent for several different stones and then told me what she thought once she could compare them all. She also sent me detailed pictures so I could see for myself. I went with the one she thought was the best ( it was not the most expensive either) and I love it! Good luck!

Thanks for the advice on girdle...so is a Thin - Thick too much of a spread? I am staying away from the X Thin for sure then...I don''t want any chipping!

Any experts out there have any advice on girdle?

I talkd to Lynn at uniondiamond and she said she can get the diamonds in to look them over for me! Thats AWESOME! Thanks for the tip!

The desired girdles are thin, medium, or slightly thick. Avoid extremely thin, thick, and extremely thick. Sorry I don''t know enough about princesses to be of help, but I know if I were searching for one, I''d choose one with an AGS0 certificate to know that it was ideal in proportions and performance.

I'd pick A or B

If you''re picking out the setting later, a possible solution: ask for it in a temporary setting. I''d rather not risk setting, unsetting, then re-setting the stone.

My princess stone''s girlde is slightly thick to thick, but we did that on purpose so not to worry about chipping.

Or just have them send you the loose diamond. Although I guess it makes the proposal a little anti-climactic.
