I am in process right now of having a RHR ring made with MDZ/Ivy & Rose. The ring is white gold. I am thinking of adding some rose gold details and was wondering when it comes time for a polish and rhodium plating for the white gold, how does the rhodium plating process effect the rose gold details on the ring? Does rose gold require replating too?

The rose gold areas would be masked off so the rhodium doesn't whiten the rose gold areas (same for yellow, or any other color of gold).

BTW - Rose gold is not plated. That is the natural color of the alloy. White gold is traditionally plated to give the metal a bright finish.

Some people (myself included) prefer unplated white gold for its "softer" tone - think "whellow". Some vendors (Stuller, David Klass, others) have a certain alloy they use in their white gold that keeps it pretty white (steely) without having to be plated.

Thank you bcavitt and ringo865 for the information. I've learned something new! I will inquire about with MDZ about the process referenced above. Very interesting....
