Unpopular or uncommon setting styles/ideas that you really like?

In addition to full bezels...I like really chunky ribbon or tab prongs, or semi bezel prong styles. Most of them I have seen on Edwardian era rings (some art deco)...right now razor thin claw prongs seem very popular so these don't seem....in vogue. LOVE ME a chunky 'ole prong!

I also LOVE gypsy rings which are also often labeled men's rings...I think they are sleek and love how chunky they are! :kiss2:

And....Mokume gane rings. Someone on PS shared one and I fell in love. I had never seen the technique before!

Not sure about popularity but I always adored this (bonus I think it’s a PSer EBA6E711-72CD-4578-9AB0-5B898DA62B2B.jpeg

This is really cool! I like how it gives the illusion of a bigger/squarish centre without a halo or bezel.

I know you said your friend wants square, but, I love an East-West marquise or moval

I love EW settings too, especially for an EC! I mentioned my friend to give the post some context, but really I wanted examples of all kinds of settings - I thought it might help someone looking for something “different” if there was a thread collecting less popular ideas :)

that last ring is spectacular! I don’t often like overly “decorative” settings but the second ring is also really something. Love the fluidity in the metal.

I agree. I actually tried to have this ring replicated, but getting the age on the gold proved difficult. It turned out that we needed to use black which isn't quite what I wanted, but I love the ring anyway.

Oh that is a very cool ring! Do you have a thread?

I didn't make a thread but I think I posted it in the "show me your David Klass" thread and was mumbling about the black. There are a few photos on this page if you're interested starting about half way down.
