I agree with Gypsy's pick for the AGS000. It is an insane deal and your friend would be crazy not to snap it up for that price and given his time constraints.

The Platinum is an added bonus. Love Platinum rings.

I really think he'd be foolish to pass this up. Especially with all of these PS diamond guru's yelling at you both that it doesn't get any better than this.

I wasn't suggesting he go this route, I was offering it as a backup. The JBEG ring is the best choice, IMO.

Okay...I didn't realize that it came with the wedding band as a set. That actually might be within budget if he thinks of it that way...still wary of the non gia rating but I'll send the link over and call them in the am regardless

It has an AGS lab report which is actually more prestigious than a GIA report because AGS is stricter on cut quality grading.

I am friends with the person who is selling this set and have seen it/worn it in person! It is gorgeous and a top notch cut, I would happily wear it. The setting and band are beautifully made by a local high end jeweler. Very clean lines and nice rounded shanks for comfort. Nice prong work. My friend is selling because she upgraded this past fall

And I also think the price is a screaming good deal WELL below retail. I helped her price it to make sure it was a fair asking on the secondary market.

Just wanted to chime in as someone who has seen the ring in question.

Another chiming in. Get the JBG ring! I want to scream it. It meets every. single. one. of this criteria except the GIA one, which is a bit silly. It's her size, in platinum for heaven's sake, right colour and clarity, larger than he needs and at barely under a carat a really good size, and I can't see a reason why Grace, as an independent with more hands-on and immediate access to her stock, couldn't get it to him in time assuming he pays right away. Tell him to just get the ring! I have to say, not my favourite 4 prong setting ever but it looks nice and is great for his time limit.

UPDATE:

I didn't realize until halfway into the day that the JBG option was a pre-owned ring. I almost didn't want to tell the BF in case that made him not comfortable with the purchase but knew I couldn't withhold that information.

I narrowed it down to two options but STRONGLY (and I mean STRONGLY) pushed for JBG.

Friend's BF gave me the green light and MY fiance is picking up the ring tomorrow from Grace while I am at work and closing the deal. SO happy that she is local!! (FYI. Grace is very sweet, friendly and accommodating!! We were even able to negotiate slightly on refund policy and price due to this complex situation!)

I AM SO EXCITED! I feel almost as excited as when I got my own e-ring (almost).

Thank you PS-ers for really, really, really backing this flash-purchase and educating me on AGL grading!

Just to clarify, at least one of the people who e-mailed Grace after you wasn't a lurker. My significant other and I have been reading PS for the past few months to determine ring parameters and using that information picked that ring out a few weeks ago. Unfortunately for me, he decided to be stubborn and wait the extra 2 weeks to have the cash before contacting JBEG about possibly reserving it. He told me yesterday that he'd e-mailed her about buying it and we spent the evening celebrating. Only to find this thread today while wondering why we hadn't heard back from her yet. It is our fault for not trying to reserve the ring, but I figured I'd point out it's not entirely fair to admonish the other people who e-mailed her after you as being lurkers trying to steal the ring because of this thread.

Guess we're back to the drawing boards.
