This is a bluish green tourmaline from excess designs and it is gorgeous. Troy is an incredible photographer but the stone far exceeds all the pics he had taken. It’s small but so bright and clear that it looks much bigger!

Your stones are all well cut and brilliant. Who is the vendor? Beautiful colour.

His name is Troy Richardson. And he sells through Facebook and Etsy (link below) . He is incredible st experimenting with many different cuts. My stone’s cut is Arya Akhavan’s “void weaver”. He has a mehenge and an aquamarine on his shop I’d love to buy but am out of budget now!

Vendor picture is more or less accurate, just a little bit too expensive after i compared with other source. Am considering if I should return it or not.

How did you take such an accurate photo? What equipment do you use to take the photo?

It is a gorgeous stone. Maybe the clarity or the cut that makes the spinel expensive.

Actually that was my best shot. The stone change color in different lighting. It looks just pink in shade and even a tiny bit towards salmon color indoor (under yellow light or on my hand).

Btw the photo color is more accurate if u view it from a monitor instead of an iphone (which should look paler).

My spinel also looks orangy under sunlight.

How much was it - very nice stone!

Thanks. This stone cost me around 3.6k, which is on the high side I think.

It might be on the high side (though that is definitely debatable these days), but good luck finding another of that size, cutting and color - in other words, I think you were wise to love it and jump on it.

That is the price today for a very nice Mahenge...

Minousbijoux is right! Same opinion!

Thanks all for the input. I didnt have enough chance to inspect many Mahenge in person, guess Ill take you guys advise=)2

Wanted to add mine, a Finewater spinel.

This looks a bit darker in your photos and shows a bit more blue. How do you like the stone? Can you see the cutting in person?

It's more blue in fluorescent lighting, greener in daylight. Definitely dark, but not too dark. The cut is fantastic!

My 2.07ct H&A Finewater rhodolite garnet from Tanzania. It is darker in person than Gary's photos, but brighter than I could capture. The H&A cut is very apparent and very nicely done! What do you all think?

Thanks for sharing. Is the colour of the stone IRL close to the colour in Gary's handshot? Can you describe the colour you have observed? Your photo looks quite different from his photo.

@pwsg07 I could not reproduce the brightness of Gary's photos IRL. It has more purple tones in fluorescent light, more pink/raspberry tones in incandescent light. Outside it seems impossible to photograph...it is either dark or brilliantly lit up when the sun hits it just right, which my camera then can't "see". I have thought about emailing Gary to see how he achieved the brightness in the photos. It almost doesn't look like the same stone, but the H&A cut and the dimensions tell me it is.

Even for the dark color, I do still like it. It feels like it's begging for a halo of diamonds! Haven't decided if I will keep yet. It is beautiful, but darker than I anticipated. Should I expect a certain amount of darkness in rhodolite garnets? It definitely shows the "raspberry" coloration he described.

@jewelsforalltosee Most rhodolites I have are medium dark in tone. The vendor's photo always looks better because they either shoot the stone under ideal lighting or they have edit the photo. The stone should look close to the vendor's photo under the sunlight. Under fluorescent light, the red garnet usually look brownish. I usually take a gem photo facing the sunlight indoor with my iPhone 6s. I have photographed my tsavorite. It is a medium/medium dark tone stone. It always looks darker and looks less saturated on my iPhone. If you are not too sure about the stone, I would suggest you to return the stone.

I’ve already got this stone 2 weeks ago, but a few things to do and the flu held me back from posting. I have bought this blue zircon from Jeffrey Davies. It’s 6.66*6.66 mm in asscher cut. I think he really captured the color accurately.

I’m really satisfied, and I’ve alrea placed my order for an umbalite garnet.

@corundum_conundrum here are the photos as requested. Taken against the setting sun in natural daylight :)

The small round is a Sri Lankan chryso that's slightly more saturated than the Mastercut chryso irl.
