I just bought a spinel from mastercutgems. I haven't received it yet and don't know how to post the vendor picture but it was posted as a vivid orange spinel vvs2 and 1.50 ct. And the comments on it were some people might say they taste oranges when they see it. I am excited to see it in person. To the people here who have bought from mastercutgems, how long does it take till you usually get your item? It didn't say anything at checkout. I hope it looks like the picture. Do their vendor photos look the same in real life?

You can post vendor pics. And I'd love to see them.

I don't know how to post a web picture on here but here is a picture of a picture ;)) It's not very good. A tablet taking a picture on another tablet.

I've purchased 2 stones (a tourmaline & a sapphire) from Dana in the past month, livannie. He ships -- very promptly (i.e., the next business day in my experience) -- via US Priority Mail with insurance and tracking; he will e-mail you the tracking number so you can monitor the little box's progress through the US Postal Service.

Although my computer is not finely color-calibrated (I've not invested in the software & a colorimeter), these 2 stones of mine, my first purchases from him, look in real life very much like how the photos in the listings appeared on my monitor. I hope you too are a happy customer =)

P.S. Is this the link to the stone that will be winging its way to you?

Thank you Mollymalone for finding it! That is good to know. Hopefully not too dark VapidLapid. Have you purchased from them as well? It wasn't a ton of money but it would be awesome if it really looked like the vendor photos.

I have bought from him. He is very prompt in shipping and charming to deal with. My purchases were perfect matches to the pictures.

Second this!

So VapidLapid, I guess I just realized why you said you think it will be dark, He says it has `good dispersion in bright light'. I guess I didn't really read that part well. I have just kinda always wanted a reddish orangish stone. Seeing rings like Frekechild's spessartite made me want one even more. I guess I will find out when it gets here. It's good to know about good experiences with Mastercutgems. Thank you everyone!

There's really no such thing as vivid orange spinel. While some spinels can be an orangy red or orangy pink color, I have never ever heard of a pure orange spinel. If you want a more orange gemstone, Mexican fire opal is a good choice, although they're somewhat sleepy.

Ocasionally, you'll find a nice orange spessartite as well, but many tend to be very brownish or yellowish orange.

I was actually surprised that he described it that way so I'll be very curious to see what it looks like when the OP receives it.

Ditto. Looking forward to your pics!

Looks more orangish red than straight orange. Any hand shots? Photography against a dark background isn't the best for showing colour.

Thanks for the hand shot. Do you like it? How shifty is it? What do you think of it?

Maybe blood orange....

What are your thoughts?

It is hard to photograph, but I like it a lot. In person it looks really orange and it is really sparkly. It has flashes of bright orange coming off it.I definitely want to keep it! I think it will be pretty in a ring.

My opinion only, but it is gorgeous! Congratulations on finding something you love!

Thank you! I think I could become addicted to spinels. :naughty:

That seems to happen a lot around here...

It looks like a dark salmon-y (orangish pink/red) colour and well cut. Flame on!

I like it. I used to be so anti-orange, but lately I am being drawn to all the juicy orange rocks on here!

I'm not sure I would say its vivid, but that said, it appears to be a bright and quite reddish orangey flame spinel. Yay to have another spinel convert, mwah hah hah haaaaa! :naughty:
