Today we have removed the fifth listing in the past week where an item was recently sold on ebay or another venue and then "flipped" or sold for a profit shortly after by the buyer. This is against our forum policies.

This is expressly against the policies of this forum and if this keeps occurring we will need to close this part of Pricescope.

Please don't be the member that forces us to close such a popular area because of YOUR actions.

Thank you to the members cooperating with this policy and selling their own "preloved" items using this forum and for reporting those abusing it. :))

Ella, could you post the names of those who are flipping here? Perhaps listing the flippers PS names publicly would stop them from doing this.

Permanently ban the members who do this and let the honest folks continue to enjoy the privilege of Pre-Loved.

Agree with this. Pre-Loved is a fantastic resource for us! Please ban the offenders but let the forum be.

We will decide how to handle it. Please do not let a few ruin it for everyone but we do not have the time to police this forum full time for flipping. :))

For now we will not be publicly shaming those who have made a mistake, sometimes innocently. But we do want to let everyone know we are taking this seriously and will not tolerate needing to monitor this forum daily for flipping.

Just food for thought Ella, but maybe it would help if Pre-Loved had a restriction that PS members need a certain number of posts before they are eligible for the privilege of selling in Pre-Loved? Maybe make the post count high enough to enforce the message that this is a privilege (1000 posts for example) and a bit of a reward for regular members? Members could contact you when they reach the required post # so you wouldn't have to police post counts. As people become eligible for Pre-Loved, you could tell them to read the rules before posting their first sale and no one would have the excuse that s/he didn't know the rules. This would certainly cut down on the number of newbies who just use PS for selling. And it gives time for people to build a presence/reputation here before they begin selling. Don't know if it's feasible to lock folks out of Pre-Loved until they're eligible -- might be more work than it's worth. Anyway, as I said, just food for thought.

This. Like. Yes.

Oh no, I don't have enough posts. Would I be considered a lurker? I have bought many items that have been listed here. I always make sure that the person I'm buying from has been a contributor to this site or another that I sometimes frequent. Hopefully, the offenders will get the message.

I do not think it should be based on Post Count. Some are like me who have been here almost 10 years, vist daily and enjoy reading. but are a little shyer about posting.

I said this in another thread that there should be a limit as to the number of items any one person can post in a given amount of time. It does seem to be the same people over and over who list on PreLoved. If you limit the number of sales per person, then it will no longer be a convenient place for flippers.

And I agree that since Ella has now put up 2 announcements, no one can say they did not know.

I don't think post count matters. Isn't part of the reason the policy started because some long time posters also got caught doing it? It's pretty clear as day at the top of this forum to not do it, and I guess people either don't think what they're doing is Flipping or don't think they'll get caught.

Ugh I'm curious to know what items as I was on this morning seeing if anything interesting was new and up. I'm guessing it was already gone by then. Anyhow I'm all for public shaming. I think that would make someone think twice before flipping.

Thank you Ella once again for all your hard work!

I disagree with the post count limit.
It doesn't seem to be fair for people that have been here for a long time but don't post often.

Let people read the rules, and if they break them, ban them from Pricescope. Simple as that.
Setting limits to who can sell just gives off an 'elite' vibe, which is a complete turn off.

Problems thus far have generally not been with lurkers but regular members.

So can we do a public shaming now????

I think this is a good policy. If you flip you are outed and perhaps (temporarily?) banned. Flipping here is not nice at all and the rules are clear as day. Long term members have no excuses and it is disappointing they would use this forum for that. Taking advantage of PS in that way especially because they are trusted members.

I'd like to share but cannot!

Yup. It's the regulars who know what to look for on ebay who are more prone to flip. You have to know what to look for....and what PSers will buy.

I also know who the last one was- as I can see the listing on here that is now missing. But have no idea about the others...

I'm not normally one who would gang up on someone, but I have to confess, if there are PSers who have been flipping, I think it is a service and a warning to others, to be named on PS. The forum rules are clearly written and it is understood flipping is a no-no, so maybe people who blatantly blast thru rules and regulations, and ignore them because "they don't apply to ME!", perhaps they should be identified. Life is full of lessons, right?

Unless PS has a confidentiality clause, then in that case, perhaps the mods can not be the ones to identify the offenders.

(I'm not in the market for anything, nor have I sold anything, so I have no horse in this race.)

I gang up on people and talk crap enough for the both of us Enerchi :)

I'm against listing people's names as it has been said that some of it was done unintentionally. I trust the moderators to handle the situation privately. And while flipping isn't allowed, and I support that 100% here in preloved, I don't think any of us should be so careless as to not know our prices anyway. Pricing is an odd thing; things sell for what the market will bear and only the seller and buyer need to be happy with it. I don't for a moment expect that every listing on LT has a not-for-profit price.

I've actually wondered at having the preloved forum at all as nothing can actually be sold here and yet it puts the mods in the position of needing to moderate these posts for potential flipping.

+1

first offense i would have an admin send them a friendly warning email, saying not to do it again. Because new and old people can make mistakes, everyone does.

second offense, is there a way to block people from just the Preloved section? I mean, someone who isnt logged in cant see it, so is there some way that once you break the rule the second time, you loose your preloved access?

Well...since I have never used the Preloved Forum, so am I! I didn't know it was so exciting over here since I rarely pop in.

Wasn't me either! :halo:

Whoever did this, come on...seems really lame to take advantage of fellow forum members just to make a few bucks.

I think it should depend on how often the members sell things, why are they selling (are they needing the funds to buy something else or just out to make a gain for themselves) and a whole heap of other things.

If we pay taxes, duties and charges and high postal fees on a item, decide to resell it for what we paid for it + all of these extra costs technically it might look like flipping but really isn't because we are trying to recover what we paid in total for that item.

I am just saying there are grey areas as well. People who buy stuff on ebay purely to resell on here for a profit. Not sure how I feel about that. If someone loves the item and is happy to pay more money for it then again is that a huge crime? There must be examples of people that have no ebay skills happy to pay the extra to purchase something that has been found by members. Having said that if they were doing this a lot then they are crossing the line becoming more of a vendor than a member and THAT should not be allowed....

I don't understand why someone who is going to flip would post to PS rather than just post to LT/DB without posting on PS.

I agree with temporary banning and perhaps outing. As it is, I know who the latest one is, and it will definitely affect buying decisions in the future.

Ladies we appreciate the opinions but the policies are not up for debate. We will handle the situations if they arise again.

Argh! I  preloved! I have my sweet little OMC's because of this section. Please don't shut it down!
