I am not able to tell weather anyone is male or female. In the watch forums, all are men so ther is no confussion. Ilona for instance I am not sure I DF IS M or F. I would love to show specific watches but I would like to know who I am talking to. I have a feeling I am going to be crushed just because I want to know if the person is a m or f

There are some women on the watch forums and have been for the past 10 years. Believe me, I know this from experience.

And DF is M.

How do you determain if a person is a man or woman? Like the person with the Lange, woman who wears mens watch (which I love) or a guy? I am so bad at figuring this out.

Can you please rephrase the question?

If I see a womans watch that is a great value, I want to present it to re correct person. Not trying to offend in any way, I just want to present the godod deal to the right person. Remember, I am comming from the watch forums where there are no women, I am trying to adjust

Don't try to sell anything here, the admin will snag you pretty quick.

I often start topics like that, "Deal Alert" or something like that. I am the same way, if I can't get it, I think another PSer should.

I would love more "Watch talk" on PS, and I'd love it if you'd post "Deal Alerts" as you find things, CUSO. I am a woman who spends a little time on the watch forums -- mostly lurking, though. I do find that it's not as fun to post on watch forums as it is on general jewelry forums. Sometimes the dedicated watch forums remind me of the car forums....a little more narrow than I'd like.

Hope you stick around -- I like your style!

Yeah, it's been a while, but I've been known to lurk on some watch forums too, and last time I checked, I was still a girl. ;)) If I could have any watch right now, I'd have a Ball Lady Trainmaster, or a RGM.

Thanks. I just need to get the texture of this board figured out. The watch forums are way too narrow, and prices can never be spoken of. I hated that.

There's definitely a learning curve -- and because there are more women than men here, we hold the guys to pretty high standards! Just kidding (I think!). But one thing I like about PS is that most people here love a great deal, so there's never a need to be shy about talking price.

I am impressed! First of all, Balls are awsome workhorse watches. But the fact that you even know about RGM (which is one of my favorites, and I have a tour of their watchmaking operations in Jan) is really awsome. Their new in house movement is stellar. The fines American made watch ever. I do know quite a bit about RGM if you ever need to know. You are now officially my 1st favorite on these boards!

I see they have a new trade-in program. ETA: Wonder if this means they're going to start selling vintage/estate watches on the side?

Re: WARNING!!!!! Went watch shopping, SERIOUS EYE CANDY!!!!!

Cuso,

The Pateks are just 'drool-worthy'!!!!

I'd go for either one of those over any of the other (beautiful) watches you looked at.

I have a bigger weakness for a fine timepiece than I do for an Ideal cut diamond, believe it or not...... :twirl:
I've loved watches since I was a little kid.

Treat yourself, you deserve it!

Why thank you very much! I do like to think I have both good sleuthing skills AND good taste. ;)) You're right, not too many people know about either brand, outside of the watch forums.

Unfortunately, both of those are out of my price range for a watch. But hey, a girl can dream. I could probably swing a Ball if I tried really hard, but I really want the RGM. I sat fascinated for about an hour just watching their videos on their cool antique engine turning machines, and looking at all the possibilites for the guilloche faces. Gorgeous. And so utterly cool that the calibres are their very own and not just ETAs. Maybe we'll see watchmakers come back into the US?

And put me down now as insanely jealous that you are getting a tour of their operation. Wow! That is so cool!

Re: WARNING!!!!! Went watch shopping, SERIOUS EYE CANDY!!!!!

To clarify, it is fine to post deals as long as you do not receive any affiliate bonuses, discounts, or other preferential treatment for posting it.

I hope it goes without saying that vendors, trade members, or watch business owners or affiliates may not post links or recommend vendors, gem, diamond, or watches alike.

Re: WARNING!!!!! Went watch shopping, SERIOUS EYE CANDY!!!!!

This is off topic, but I have a Rolex Ladies Datejust. It needs a serious overhaul. Would any of you watch mavens send it to anyone other than Rolex for a rehab? It's going to cost at least $900 for Rolex to do the work. Thanks for your opinions.

ARGH DF! That is not in my budget!

I used to love watches, long before I loved jewelry. Then I realized I was buying overpriced stuff (for what it was) in my early 20s. I don't even wear watches anymore. But boy, that is beautiful...someday.

Here is the problem. With a little effort, you can find a used good condition (sometimes with waranty) stainless or 2 tone ladies datejust for $1000 or less.

1) do you have all your paperwork for the watch?
2) what specifically is wrong with it?

DF, my Rolex needs to be serviced. I don't want to send it to Rolex because I've read reports that Rolex has changed dials on people's watches (and then told them they were out of luck).

I don't want my watched damaged that way.

Do you think if I send it to United Watch Service they'll follow my instruction not to change the dial in any way (I don't even want tritium reapplied).

Thanks!

don't think they will touch the dial. we (my friend and i) had 4 Rolexes (2) day/date and (2) ladies DJ. they gave us a discount and overhauled all 4 watches for $1000,but this was in March of 07. nowadays my guess would be more like $375 ??

Re: WARNING!!!!! Went watch shopping, SERIOUS EYE CANDY!!!!!

DF, thanks. I'll write their name down and contact them next year. My Rolex definitely needs servicing.

I don't really mind that it get the time wrong but there are a few small chips in the crystal that bother me, and I took a link out of one side of the bracelet a long time ago and lost it, and would like to buy another to replace it.

My only concern is I don't want the watch altered. It's not the same Air King you can find in the stores today.

you know what's funny? i had a S/S DJ before it was lost in a robbery ;( i wore that watch for 18 yrs w/o any service done on the watch and it kept ex time (+2 sec per day). anyhow, sometime i wonder ...does a mechanical watch still need servicing if the watch is keeping perfect time??

Re: WARNING!!!!! Went watch shopping, SERIOUS EYE CANDY!!!!!

I like the Patek best. However I really do think it depends on what you want to wear it as. Are you looking for a casual look or an elegant look etc? Also I believe age and your looks comes as factors.

My hubby is early 30s and looks very young for his age.
When he wears a gold rolex watch or something fancy looking - it just looks silly on him.
On others it looks fantastic.

I think watches are like jewellery, some styles suit you and some styles don't.
Also as you get into different stages in your life, your taste changes.
