Hi all,
I have a b''day coming up, and have been desiring a new watch for a while now. I currently wear a s/s and leather Michael Kors which I love, but looking for something a lil more "grown up". It would need to be two tone and I would really like to get diamonds on the face - something classy yet still ok for everyday wear.
It would be a combined pressy from my folks and Fi, I haven''t really looked into it much but wouldn''t be comfotable with them spending more than $1000.
Does anybody have some nice suggestions in this price range, or am I being unrealistic in price range?

nb. I have been looking at some of the Bulova ones on Overstock.com - does anyone have experience or knowlegde of this brand?

Thanks so much in advance!

I don''t know anything about that brand AJ, but I hope you find a nice one! I don''t think Overstock are authorised dealers?

Thankyou Lorelei - I don''t know about it either - but GOG sells them?
I don''t know much about overstock.com but I guess the authorized dealer thing would come into play..

Its totally not the style i was looking for, but found this one on SP http://www.signedpieces.com/item.cfm?item_id=7551
and they also sell them at overstock for the same price - pretty nice discount

any opinions? I like it but too trendy?

anybody have any suggestions?

My husband is in to watches and he says Bulova is a good brand.

AJ I am fairly sure Overstock does not ship to AU

I could be wrong though.

ETA: You should be able to get a fairly nice watch for your budget but I must say having recently doing some watch buying some of the prices are just insane

*sigh* that''d be right lol!

Yeah I haven''t started the retail thing here yet - my dream "I''ve always wanted it" watch is the omega mini constellation or omega seamaster aqua - but of course both are a bit outta reach
40.gif

I agree with you 100% about those prices - geez I once knew someone who owned a Franck Muller worth about 20k
23.gif

imvho, I wouldn''t spend that on a watch..but diamonds are another thing
2.gif
(pls, no offence intended to anyone who owns expensive watches!)

Marcyc, cheers for the info - they do seem quite nice and not tooo expensive.

I bought the BF an citizen eco-drive for our anniversary and while it was not the most expensive of watches it was at the top end of my budget and the one of the ones he liked the most but some of the watches we saw were seriously way out there for the brand and the watch in general.

You will find the amount you can negotiate on sticker prices will vary from store to store but when we were shopping one shop offered us 5% off the price and the other did 25% + an extra 5% off that price as well all because I said he was not that fussed on the clip on the watch.

I don''t know what shops you have around you but Wallace Bishop actually had the best selection of mid range-fairly expensive watches and a good selection of brands the service was actually fairly decent and they were the most willing to neg on sticker prices as well.

Nothing wrong with an upcoming birthday :) how old will you be?

The diamonds are nothing to look at
14.gif
but they do have a good selection of watches at least the one in Brissie city did :). /www.wallacebishop.com.au/maps/locations.php"> there is most likely one near you, the ones in the city centres will be better then the suburban ones.

Dancing Fire we don''t have cost co here

I wish we did

.....25....
so kinda a big one..

Turning 25 was kinda scary to me at the time (I'm 28) but then I realised it is not all to bad, you get better with age

Congrats on reaching a quarter of a century
smile2222.gif
well soon to reach :D

ha ha lol! I'm such a dork!
I completely forgot that due to the Company I work for, we get significant discounts from some of the chain jewellery stores here - I would never buy diamonds from them, but hey a watch is a watch right?
so I just went and priced out my two "first choices' - an Omega constellation and a Tag link series. I will get 30% odd sticker price, plus whatever else i can negotiate
31.gif

So, they're probably still outside the realm of whats feasible, but getting closer..
Does anybody have a preference between these two:

http://www.omega.ch/index.php?id=165&ref=13717100&no_cache=1

(not sure if it was quartz or automatic, but it looks like this)

http://www.tagheuer.com/the-collection/link/ladies/quartz-watch/index.lbl?w=WJ1317.BA0573

but with two tone bracelet instead - looks a lot more feminine IRL and has I think a white face..

I love Tags, DH and I both have one...you will probably pay less for quartz mvmt than auto, though.

Have you looked at Signed Pieces (aka Facets, a PS vendor) for watches? Sometimes you can find fab deals on their site, I know omieluv found a Bedat there and is very happy with it.

Bulovas are great, as are Citizen Eco-Drives, both DH and I have worn them in the past and they are great watches...

You have a great budget and lots of options, keep asking Q''s here and find something you love! We will help you!

Thankyou Dee and Monnie!
Momarch, yes SP was one of the first places I looked, but I think I will go local for this one - plus I get that 30% discount automatically from local jewellery stores
9.gif

Are you able to explain to me what is the difference between quartz and auto movement??

Dancing Fire is a watch expert and can surely explain more easily the difference. I will say that most watch collectors value automatic movement vs. quartz...but DF as well as other watch enthusiasts here on PS can elaborate!

yes,buy the automatic.

Arjuna, I actually own (and am wearing) the Tag Link you posted in a link above with diamond markers. Mine has a light colored MOP dial, with 11 diamonds, I have the appraisal from our jeweler somewhere. I love my watch, and would love to see you buy the same one! I''ve been wearing mine for 2 or 3 years now and just love it. I had a thread about it in jewelry pieces a long time ago...

I think Tags are fabulous timepieces for those who are starting out such as ourselves, or to be exact the ~ 25-35 crowd, plus or minus a few years.

DF, would you mind to try to explain to me what the difference is? Or if its too technical, perhaps you can just tell me why it is ppl try to avoid the quartz movements? Also, do you have an opinion on the above two watches, either/and technical / aesthetically?

tia!

Oh thats so cool to hear from someone that owns one! To be honest the Tag wasn''t actually on my shortlist, but after trying on the mini constellations IRL, I found they''re just to, well ..mini! Probably something to do with the fact I have been wearing a men''s watch with a huugge face for ages!
5.gif

I found the tag abit more substantial, plus they are slightly cheaper if I want to get the diamonds on the face...However the omegas are ever so elegant..
20.gif

hmpphh..perhaps I should just leave it up to the gift givers to surprise me!!

AJ, check out the next size up in the Constellation which is small. I wear a small Omega Constellation and it is the perfect size, substantial but still elegant.

yup, thats the one I liked. But I can''t afford diamonds on the bezel in that size - and the diamonds just on the face only comes in the mini
7.gif

Oohhh, Why must there always be something!! he he just kidding, pls don''t think me a brat everyone!

What about a Michelle?! Just curious if that look even appeals to you...it is a nicer costume watch, sometimes with diamonds...

I love this one. I''m sure you could find a better price.

Out of the two you posted, I prefer the Tag by far.

The Tag Link would be a terrific choice! Don''t even think about automatic in this price range. I am thinking those are normally much higher than the quartz ones in the better brands. Lucky you to get 30% off!!! That is a hard discount to find from authorized dealers!
