The Tag Link would be a terrific choice! Don''t even think about automatic in this price range. I am thinking those are normally much higher than the quartz ones in the better brands. Lucky you to get 30% off!!! That is a hard discount to find from authorized dealers!
I totally agree with DS! Plus, one thing about mechanical watches that you need to be aware of is that they wind down and stop if you don''t wear them enough. Also, there are certain things you really shouldn''t do while wearing a mechanical, such as hammer nails into wood (DH found out the hard way!). I have an inexpensive mechanical skeleton watch, and it only runs about 12 hours or so beyond when I take it off. I love it, but I rotate my watches a bit, so when I go to wear it I know I''m always going to have to set the time on it. I imagine there is a difference between wind down times among different brands though. My husband''s mechanical watches seem to run longer.

Tag Heuer. Mine was over 3K, but my friend got one with pink MOP, no diamond bezel but studded numbers for $800. You can get them at most high end jewelers, online (secondhand are way cheaper via ebay) or even Costco usually has refurbs. I LOVE mine, I've had it about two years and I wear it everyday, all day. Shower, sleep, home, out. It's sleek and very pretty without being flashy.

FH has an everyday Tag and a less-than-low-key Breitling

, and he loves both. Women's Breitling's are very large, but you could check them out as well. Both of his are automatic, and he seems to have trouble with them since he doesn't wear them to work so they stop. Winders seem to not work with the Breitling because it's too heavy, so keep that in mind if you look at those. Good watch winders are $$$!

Thankyou all for your advice, nebe your watch is lovely and quite similiar to the one i am fond of - do you ever get concerned about the diamonds on the bezel - I imagine i would bang a watch around a bit more than a ring etc..

Thank you very much, DF- I'll look into one!

arjunajane - Thank you for the compliment! I'm a klutz. If there's anything even near my vicinity, I'll bump into it. My rings and watch are constantly getting banged on something or other

To answer your question though, no, I've never lost or loosened a stone. I get it checked anytime I'm at the mall or in a jewelers, and they usually clean it up for me as well. It's got a substantial solid bezel around the outside of the diamonds, so they're pretty protected, and the stones on the face are four prong, so they haven't loosened from dropping it. It has a good warranty, however. If the crystal is every chipped/cracked or I lose a stone, they replace it.They also replace the batteries every five years or so. One thing about the link band, however; you can't have it polished. If you want it to look new, you have to send it out and have it completely refinished or replaced with Tag. I still think they are well worth the money. There are three in my family and no one has ever said anything but praise about them. FH once had to have the crown on his replaced, but they did it free of charge even after his warranty expired!
