Waxing etiquette in Amsterdam? (TMI, but help!)

I tried looking online but found a bunch of stuff I'm not sure i should believe. Thought I'd try here since we have a lot of knowledgeable ladies who have traveled much. This may be TMI for some people, sorry!

We are going to Amsterdam in a few weeks, and I plan on visiting the saunas there. They are nude. If I show up with a certain degree of bareness, are people going to think, "what is wrong with her? is she a stripper/prostitute?"

What is the trend there? I normally keep things bare, but if it's not acceptable, then i need to let it grow out!

How about for men?

Sorry, I really did try to google things but i found a lot of educational stuff on "what is a european wax", which doesn't help me, and a lot of "other stuff", which i didn't want to see.

Thanks!!

In my experience Amsterdam is very liberal and very "live and let live". When you go to the sauna some ladies will be completely bare, some will be completely natural and some will be somewhere in between. No one will think you're a prostitute if you show up "Hollywood" ;) and even if they do, they won't think anything of it. Prostitution is legal there and really not the same deal it is in the States.

The most common *ahem* coiffure I noticed was the good ol' fashioned 80's bikini wax combined with a trim.

About the men in Amsterdam... Well, in my experience (and don't ask how this was acquired! :naughty: ) they're mostly uncircumcised and with a certain degree of body hair. The older guys have quite a bit of hair down there, the younger ones have it trimmed quite close. Some have it all off. Again, anything in between is acceptable.

I hope you enjoy your time there!

FK...who cares what they think?? be sure to post some pics!!... :naughty:

DF! Restrain yourself!

Forte, there is no etiquette. My personal experience is the same as Trekkies - 80's style maintenance is the most common. But some are bare, and everything in between. Don't worry about it at all.

I wouldn't worry about it, least of all in Amsterdam!

Thank you so much, i really appreaciate your responses. Now i gotta convince the bf that it's perfectly normal for people to sit in a spa nekkid. He's still a bit of a prude. :naughty:

Never could have imagined me discussing this topic on PS. Broadening horizons cannot be bad, though.

Forte, nothing to worry about. The trend amongst younger women (below 40, I would add) is to bare (almost) all. The same trend is picking up with men.

Generally, in a sauna, you will find that nobody is paying attention. Extreme attention is basically not done.

Live long,

Thanks Paul! Have you heard of Sauna Deco and Sauna Van Egmond? Deco is close by and easy to get to, but i've read that Van Egmond is so much nicer... it's just a bit further and will take up more museum time. If you are familiar with both, which would you recommend?

I know nothing. I am from Antwerp.

Live long,

I need to ask - what's 80's maintenance?! (And I suppose, by default, I also need to ask what current maintenance is, exactly).

Think 80s is just waxing what sticks out of the bikini. Not sure if they trim the length.

More people are going bare these days, and if not bare then there's a small strip of hair left. But if you're gonna pay someone to take some of it off, you might as well take it all off, haha.

i find it's just easier and it feels better. i hate how the hair feels when you shave or trim, so i wax it all off.

I'm ... sort of in the corner of ignorance, here. Are we all doing this now? Is it de rigeur?

For what it's worth, my husband's Scandinavian, and from what I can tell they're live-and-let-live, verging on the hippie-granola let-it-all-hang-out model. I would imagine norms wouldn't differ that much in Amsterdam - I really don't think anybody will give you the side-eye, no matter what you do. Possibly, if you go the full-fledged "trimmed into a bunny shape and dyed pink," a few people might ... well, frankly, ask for details, but anything short of that, you're good.

hahaha i just snorted my pepsi up my nose!!

i thought of shaping it and dyeing it once, but it's just not possible with my hair, which is stick straight, black, and rather sparse. The bunny would look like it has alopecia...

I do it because i dont like the feeling of my hair. Mine is very straight and tends to poke thru the underwear. When I used to shave, it would poke tiny holes in my undies because the hair is so sharp. For a while i couldn't understand why i had tiny holes all over the bottom front of my undies and blamed them on moths... yea, dumb.

And just when I thought PS was getting boring!

No kidding I'm LMAO over here. I would have thought that, at least, it would be on the Health board. But I guess "hangout" is oddly appropriate.

As long as we're sharing TMI, when I first saw my Dutch hubby in the nude, I was all... "what's that?!?" because I had never seen an uncircumsized man!

I misread this - "most people " rather than "more people." I spent a few moments there wondering if everyone I know has ripped out their pubes. :o So glad I re-read it before my management meeting this morning. Just too distracting wondering about the folks around the table...

:?

LMAO over here.
