I am so excited!

So FF and I have been together for 3 1/2 years, living together for 1 1/2, and we''ve known pretty much since 3 or 4 months in we would get married. But with distance, then school, then being broke all the time, we kept putting it off. This fall though, he finally admitted he wanted to get me an e-ring for my Christmas/birthday (they''re close) present. This, of course, was before either of us had done any real research, and after getting an idea of what we wanted, finding "the" ring, and later finding out (thanks to PS) that it was crap and overpriced, we decided to go custom. The pic is of the stone we chose, an unheated Tanzanian sapphire cut by Gene Flanigan at Precision Gems. We''ve only seen the pic online, and if it turns out not to be just right for my e-ring it will become a rhr. FF says that''s fine :)

As far as how we''ll set it...I''m not sure. I''ve always liked the idea of side stones, but I''m not sure how that would look with the pentagonal shape of the stone. And whatever we do I want the star to really pop out. Any ideas or suggestions?

Ooooooo it''s gorgeous!! Personally I would have it set by itself as it really is beautiful and unusual, however I love solitaires. If you really want side stones I''m sure someone more knowledgable could assist you.

Do not bezel set that stone (I mentioned this in your other thread as well). It will look black if you bezel it because it's a dark stone. I would put it in white gold or platinum, perhaps a simple knife edge Tiffany style setting with four prongs. The less prongs the better since it is a dark stone and it should have a lot of light underneath it, especially to see the star. If you want diamonds, that's fine, but I would do small ones down the shank, and not use side stones.

Congratulations on your beautiful new stone, engagement and soon to be e-ring.

Yes, that was my fear about a bezel setting. And I am beginning to agree about side stones...the more I think about it the more I think they''d be too distracting. I like the idea of pave set stones down the shank, or maybe engraving.

I''m getting really excited to try on some different style settings to see what I like. And I am SO excited to get this stone!! I keep telling FF to check his email to see if he''s received a shipping confirmation yet...can''t wait!!
