Weekend Guest - EC 1.59 K VVS1 Med Blue from DBL

Wow, I really love that stone! But I agree with everyone else, it is pretty small. You have gorgeous long fingers so I think you need to go bigger. I'm actually starting to shop for an upgrade (I have a 1.5 ct asscher) and I'm going for a 3+ ct emerald cut (I need at least 9 x 7mm). I have long slender fingers like you and can easily carry a larger diamond. I say, hold off and wait to find the right one in a larger size. But man, that cut is amazing! It's tempting me to get an emerald and cut it to have a culet!

Actually I don't care at all for the COLOR. I think it's too warm, and that the med blue isn't helping that enough, the size isn't great either, but the color is what is bothering me.

I was excited to see RL pics of this stone after viewing on DBL. I have to say, I agree it looks quite small. Funny I think that since my main diamond in my ering is a 1.11 ec. I guess I thought it would look much larger due to the carat wt. Doesn't seem to have the presence you are looking for. Honestly Mayk I would keep searching.

Hi all
About opening a culet on an EC
Yes, it can be done to any diamond
BUT
1) it won't look right unless the stone is suited IMO
2) it will invalaidate any existing GIA report
3) it's not all that tough a job for a cutter but there's still risk
4) you broke it, you bought it- if you do it and the results are not to your liking you're stuck

Just saying that for consumers it's probably safer to buy a stone that's already got the look you love

Personally I love the color, I would even go lower, I think lower colored EC are the best kind! The colors get so pasted and beautiful, very similar to a low color AVC.

As for the cut, I was in contact with GoG and they were trying to find me some L or O one that they could then cut me a culet into. have you seen this thread, i think her ascher is an L and the colors just look too fantastic!
You selll your tranny and go down to an L or O you could get quite the hefty EC

plus heres one i always love to look at with a lower color and a big culet, it just has such melty goodness

Ps -for what it's worth. I agree that it's right not to compromise on this type of purchase if its possible to get what one wants in budget

I asked Mr. Rockdiamond to see if there was anything else out there... I so wish this was a little larger.. it's a beautiful diamond.. I'm actually very fond of the color, the pattern and the culet.. it all worked for me... I just need shorter fingers. Mr. RD has also been very nice to work with as I have not worked with him before. I'll be sending it back.. but I will be very sad to see it go.... :(sad

Set your sights on something like Fran Fine's 3.2 ct, J VS1 gorgeous EC!   The right stone IS worth waiting for!!! (I keep telling myself that, anyway! )

I know!!! One of my all time favorites ever posted here!

MayK I think you've already decided... but maybe think about vendor trade-up policies if you're a "PS Regular" ie... you'll probably upgrade to something larger or different over time. DBL has a trade-up policy (better than many companies!) but the new item must be at least twice the original item's cost and an in-stock item.

For me... that's not ideal.

So.. I dropped in my local B&M today .. just to look at a few diamonds again larger loose diamonds. It was very interesting. I tried on a three stone. It was smaller the center was 1.25 and I actually liked the "effect"... so now I'm all over the board! I'm a mess... I'm afraid I just like anything blingy and I'm a danger to myself..

They had two I looked at loose.. a 1.79 H VVS that was 8.13 and then a 2.02 I SI that was 7.90mm in length. The 1.79 63% depth and a 60% table it was actually not bad to use a measure to get some ideas... but it was B&M priced.

Still not sure what I will do... but looking at all my options.

I truly can understand that. There are a lot of beautiful options and most of us do not have unlimited funds for jewelry! It can be overwhelming, but at least for me, I sometimes have to step back and wait for the right thing to come along. I've jumped the gun before and regretted it later. I'd LOVE to make my next e-ring stone the last! In the meanwhile, trying on things is a good idea to help develop preferences!

Mayk:

I may have missed an earlier post but in order to understand your search maybe you could explain what you want. Is this a new e-ring or just a new ring for fun?

Just a RHR.

Taking my time is the thing I need to do... DS..sound advice. I can be very impulsive and right now very undecided.

It is a gorgeous stone but if you don't feel it's the one, keep looking!

In case you don't remember my original tagline:

When in doubt, don't.

Unless you are planning an elaborate double halo art deco ring like the one posted earlier, this stone is too small. My new little 1 ct asscher only works because it is in a halo setting that overall is 8mm square so it is covering 2 ct territory. So how you plan to set the stone makes a huge difference. I adore side baguettes with an EC, but I see that strictly as an e-ring. Side EC's or traps to make a 3 stone would be fine for a RHR, to me, but I think the stone needs to be larger for that purpose.

Thank you...you are so right (where's the hug icon when you need it)... it does need to be bigger.. What I decided this morning.. I'm going to sell the Transitional.. and then build toward a larger center and stick with my plan to place baguettes on the side. I think for now the 5-stone is safe.. but it's always a possibility.

Sunshine!!!!

In the sun very, very pretty!!!

oh MAN that is a GORGEOUS diamond!!! Wow - I love it in the sun! and how WHITE it looks!! But --- if it is not the one, it's not the one. I'm sure there will be another buyer for this DBL stone and another stone out there for you that will suit your needs (and amazingly long fingers!) better.

bye bye beautiful EC!!

Hey M! Just a thought but perhaps you can start a new post for all the ebay hunters out there to help you. I know Kim started a post on the antique cuts forum and got a lot of options from PSers who search ebay regularly. She posted the specs she wanted and the price she was willing to pay. I think she got over 30 options. I'm not sure if they one she ended up buying was one of those options but it can't hurt to look. From the EC that is your quest it looks like you like more of a classic antique EC with clipped corners. Have you also contact JbEG and OWD to see if they can help find you someting?

:wavey: Thanks Sarah.. I am actually chatting with Grace... since I have the option of upgrading with her since my transitional came from her... that would be a nice option. I also ask David @ DBL to look at a stone for me... if these options don't pan out.. I will likely start a thread and ask for help...

Golly please excuse my first post. My keys on my keyboard are sticking since LO spilled juice on it :o
I would still contact Adam. You just never know and an email can't hurt.

I would agree that Grace would probably be my first option too- especially if a trade in does work in your favor. I will keep my fingers crossed.

Good decision and hugs back! :appl:
