I've been typing and re-typing this message for 30 minutes now. I'm just not sure what to say. I want to be fair...
So, I have a new stone, set in the same setting. It's a 3.51 cushion brilliant I VS2, Symm/Pol: VG, No Flour. Depth: 69.1% Table: 68%
While I don't know what the experts would say about it, to my eye, it is beautiful. The table is smaller than the original stone (which I like) and the da*n inclusion is gone. Of course, we forked over another $7K to get it. However, I had a printed list of stones/prices from BN, Solomon Bros. and Art of Platinum and I think we got a fair price for the stone.
I saw about 15 stones in total, as I was willing to look at shapes other than cushion and scrap the setting if necessary. I almost didn't see this stone, as I'd said I didn't want to go lower than H in color, but he showed it to me without telling me the color and I thought it was a G. It faces up very white, which is what I wanted.
Having the stone examined by an appraiser didn't pan out, as his schedule didn't work well with mine (I didn't have a stone for him to look at by the time of my appt) and honestly, he made a couple of comments about how "politically connected" the Malakov family was and I didn't feel like he'd really be on my side anyway.
As for the experience, I dealt with Meir Malakov, Roman's son and he was extremely accommodating and patient for the most part. He and my hubby got into a "spat" when my husband made a comment that was uncalled for. Hubby walked out and I got an earful about how I'd better be careful and all it would take was "one call to his lawyer" about this "Pricescope business".
Long story short, I have a ring and I'm hoping that in time, I won't have a sour taste in my mouth when I look at it. It's raining here in Atlanta, and I'm a terrible indoor photographer, so photos will have to wait until the sun comes out. I know, I know...after making you wait all of this time, I'm holding out on the goods, but I've taken a few test shots and they're terrible.
Anyway, to all of you who supported me during this saga, a heartfelt "thank you". It was clear that I was much more knowledgable this time around and I think it definitely helped me get a nice stone. Looking forward to putting this behind me and start planning my next project (as soon as the wallet recovers from this one, sometime in 2030 or so!)....
