What colored stone are you currently looking for?

Would really love to know where you found those candidates!

Here's a summary of the nicer ones I considered that come to mind
From Multicolour, not on the site anymore,

The EC if you go to Yavorskyy and hover over 'other gems' - the pic representing chrysoberyl. Was 7-8ct, a bit windowed, not as nice in the vid they sent me.

Still available but I know it's at least 20k. When I saw how much nicer this looked in various lighting on their IG I wondered if I missed out with the Multicolour one which was much cheaper (but looked similar in studio shots).

Every now and then an interesting one pops on IG but I can't bring myself to purchase from random sellers.
Especially since I saw the same chryso advertised by a few dealers, looking an excellent neon from some seller's videos and a pallid yellow by others.

And there's one I'm looking at currently, but currently leaning on passing as it might be too green.

Found a pic of the palagems one in what I assume is ideal lighting

Don’t count out Mali garnets if you’re looking for that color, as it might open up your options. Owning both, it’s hard to tell the difference in both gems.

Agreed, my eyes are peeled for Mali garnet too, but I haven't come across a large enough one that isn't overly brown.

A deep pink orange spinel with silk. Always looking for those. I’m so bummed LT is down if anyone has one list them in Preloved!

I bought a pink-orange spinel last year—but maybe not quite as deep or silky or high quality :lol-2: as you are envisioning (also not the best photo):

Haven't had the chance to set it yet as others have mentioned, prices are $$$ for settings right now...

Either a ruby or a jedi red spinel :D

A jedi pink spinel is my DREAM! :kiss2: I'd be happy even with a teeny 0.25 ct one... but goodness, the prices!

At the moment I've really nothing else I want... just a wee jedi spinel ;(

Oh, I don't know. After looking around at colored stones again and what you can get for the money, I might just stick with the lab versions. It would be different if I didn't think I needed SO many more of them! :(

I so understand you!! Can get more bang for your buck with lab... though I'd be lying if I said the allure of mined didn't call out to me!

I saw some spinels last week, and the colors were so lovely! Also looked at some rubies, but none of them stood out as much as the spinels did lol.

I'm also a bit tempted to pick up a lavender spinel-- and perhaps do a piece which incorporates both lavender & pink spinels? Have not completely decided if I'll go with ruby + jedi spinel melees or lavender + baby pink spinels for my next setting yet.

@Lilith112 A lavender spinel would be lovely! Especially if it has a silvery sheen—could give FCDs a run for their money :D (our money too... )

Do both!!! :evil2:

Ohhh that sounds like a great idea too! I'm trying to go more colorful for my next piece too :D

RE the slinel, idk if it has a silvery sheen, but it's a sparkle bomb! Video below:

Mali garnets offers nice colour too. However, is more notable dispersion seen on Mali garnet than chrysoberyl? Also what about the difference/ similarity on their lustre and brilliance??

I also found it’s pretty rare for clean hued and vividly saturated one from both varieties.

Something bright purplish pink with fire. Am open to all manner of alchemy so long as the price is adjusted for treatment. Thought about LGD but most of those are brown/orange pink. Thought about moissanite but that would be coated — might still go that route. But will take CS suggestions. Probably two years down the road, after other expenses and projects.

I think they’re around the same RI. Chrysoberyl is much harder though, but appearance wise, I would say they’re very similar. Both even get a neon greenish yellow hue in very fine specimens.

Love that spinel color!

I would love a BIG blue Zircon for a ring.
Like I have no loose gems.
Like I have no rings.
Hmmmm.

Ok, I can't tell if your serious or joking, you have no rings or loose gems?

I saw a lavender spinel posted somewhere on here and it was amazing!!!!

You can find some lovely amethysts out there from light to dark purple with flashes

Perhaps just start out with something inexspensive. Amethyst, Topaz, Peridot

Grape garnets?

A 2-3 ct silky/opalescent sapphire, bluish or bluish green. Preferably a hex. But apparently everybody else is looking for opalescent so prices are through the roof.

Opalescent sapphire? Can you post a pic, I am not sure what you mean?

I’ve been casually looking for a cushion cut emerald for the last couple of years. However, prices right now are insane so I’m holding off, unless the perfect candidate strolls on by. I just bought myself a lighter colored emerald to hold me over. Now I just have to figure out how to set it. :D

Are you thinking a ring?

I have three sapphires to set but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't on the look out for:
- an 8mm reddish stone (spinel and ruby are probably out but a decent rubelite mebbe)
-Always on the perpetual hunt for a Pad or pad colored spinel but so may false starts.
-a large Aqua emerald cut

One thing I don't have yet is a Pad, they are so $$$ for the right color

I think hardness is the biggest reason I would rather get a chrysoberyl.
I remember now that Africagems had two interesting large Mali garnets but they were too expensive. Yeah, both often have a color shift that dealers like to call 'honey' (especially with cats eyes) which is a nice way of saying brownish yellow or brownish orangey yellow. And when they lack brown, they are usually too light in tone. And sometimes, they are a nice tone with no brown but are too green (borederline vanadium chrysoberyl - like the one I am currently eyeing)
I've browsed a few Japanese gem sites and they have a thing called 'parrot' chrysoberyl - neon greenish yellow Indian chrysoberyl.
Anecdotally, even before I came across this I noticed there some particularly nice Indian ones, but only in small sizes. However, I think all origins can have excellent quality especially Tanzanian ones. I have not seen Indian material IRL.
