What colored stone are you currently looking for?

A really nice pair of citrine earrings is next on my wishlist. Finding some that are well cut and not brown is proving harder than I expected.

They are starting to be in bigger demand; there are some people in IG selling them.

There was a period where moonstone was popular on PS and suddenly lots of vendors were stocking it (more likely it was trendy in general).

In white diamonds (not colorless), opalescence is caused by 'nano-inclusions and dislocation loops' - inclusions as small as 20nm (https://www.gia.edu/gems-gemology/fall-2019-fancy-white-fancy-black-diamonds)

Outside of specific cases, I wonder if for corundum 'opalescent' is just another way to say 'included with fine silk', which is probably more common considering the frequency of rutile in corundum. Regardless they can be very beautiful.

Makes sense. Silk can cause sapphires to glow and apparently a lot of silk turns them opalescent.

Something bright purplish pink with fire. Am open to all manner of alchemy so long as the price is adjusted for treatment. Thought about LGD but most of those are brown/orange pink. Thought about moissanite but that would be coated — might still go that route. But will take CS suggestions. Probably two years down the road, after other expenses and projects.

Definitely spinel. If cut well they are Very firey. And you can find purplish pink very easily. I have many spinels. I’m an addict.

Cross over from the first world problems thread :lol-2: :lol-2: :lol-2: :boohoo: :boohoo: :boohoo: :boohoo: :boohoo:

Yeah, it's totally just silky sapphires, which used to be the "undesirable" ones and this cheaper. I find trends in what gems are popular to be fascinating. I try not to go just for what's popular but for some reasons the glowy stones are just calling me :)

Talking about opalescent sapphires, just look at those beauties:

I feel strangely attracted to the top middle one. Can't really say if it has colour zoning or just some very unusual and unique light and colour play.

A largish sapphire that has color same as a medium to medium-dark smoky quartz.

Elvis? Are you out there?

Well… my list included a pure yellow Mali garnet and a velvet blue sapphire. The garnet arrived yesterday and a sapphire candidate is on its way. I need to just stop….

I’m sure there’s something else I will want but I really just need to find affordable settings and stop adding to my stone collection.

Here’s the Mali.

Stick to your resolution! You can do it! You should make a thread for all the rehabilitated and newly wearable pieces you will be gaining.

Thank you
you are right of courses

I do have a thread hidden in hangout
I'll be adding to it when i pick the latest round of repairs from the jewler
Maybe tomorrow even

I can't sleep thinking about all my ugly blue- black saphire pieces
the options now seem endless =)2
Now im worried my earrings might be bezzeled but its still the middle of the night kind of so i can't flick the light on and check

Not actively looking for anything...

I am fortunate to have collected what I want that is in my budget (and then some). I could start upgrading but that that would open up a whole new price range where I don't want to go.

Now if i could only put the blinders on and stop buying.

I am basically on the same boat as everyone, I just keep searching for stones, then I still have a lot of unset stones. But right now I am really tempted by a Richard Homer concave cut tourmaline I saw on loupe troop, some madagascar ruby melee that I saw for sale with desert rose and demantoid garnets in 2mm.

I would love a BIG blue Zircon for a ring.
Like I have no loose gems.
Like I have no rings.
Hmmmm.

I'm loving this new ring from Raintree

Mali garnets offers nice colour too. However, is more notable dispersion seen on Mali garnet than chrysoberyl? Also what about the difference/ similarity on their lustre and brilliance??

I also found it’s pretty rare for clean hued and vividly saturated one from both varieties.

Mali Garnets have much higher dispersion than Chrysoberyl. They are made up of grossular-andradite mixture. Around 5% is andradite, which in includes Demantoid which has higher dispersion than Diamond. Funny thing is that 5% of andradite gives Mali Garnet very similar dispersion to Demantoid. One of the most dispersive stones out there.

I am loving this thread (also the turquoise one)
Keep posting !
I feel so much better looking at my overpriced mall purchases and knowing i can fix them and bring back the love

I agree. My new Mali garnet is amazing. It has so much fire. I had a feeling that it must be pretty close to demantoid. I jist couldn’t find a yellow one until now!

I also have a yellow chrysoberyl and it’s precision cut and it may not have as much fire but it does still have decent fire.

Love them both. Mali's are getting hard to find in good quality over 3 carats.

Use to sale them up to 8 carats, many moons ago.

Spessartite garnet!

What instagram account is that from, I am at work and it won't open for me?

Help!!!
I'm still on the fence about keeping the Umbalite Garnet e Jeff Davies... It looks great when some light hits it, but dead as a door nail at other times...

Any suggestions on where to find a decent priced ($300) nearly 10mm
Umbalite or Rhodolite? I don't want to pay thousands of dollars?

Thank you!!
