Oh those are pretty I hadn't seen them before. Where did you find those?
They are starting to be in bigger demand; there are some people in IG selling them.

Are you thinking a ring?

There was a period where moonstone was popular on PS and suddenly lots of vendors were stocking it (more likely it was trendy in general).
In white diamonds (not colorless), opalescence is caused by 'nano-inclusions and dislocation loops' - inclusions as small as 20nm (https://www.gia.edu/gems-gemology/fall-2019-fancy-white-fancy-black-diamonds)
Outside of specific cases, I wonder if for corundum 'opalescent' is just another way to say 'included with fine silk', which is probably more common considering the frequency of rutile in corundum. Regardless they can be very beautiful.
Something bright purplish pink with fire. Am open to all manner of alchemy so long as the price is adjusted for treatment. Thought about LGD but most of those are brown/orange pink. Thought about moissanite but that would be coated — might still go that route. But will take CS suggestions. Probably two years down the road, after other expenses and projects.
Makes sense. Silk can cause sapphires to glow and apparently a lot of silk turns them opalescent.
Cross over from the first world problems thread
but im kind of doing quite well getting through my to do list with regard to making everything i own wearable with repairs and alterations
(I already had the cull)
But now because of this thread im looking at things im not 100% happy with and dreaming of the possibilities
Grape garnets?
Stick to your resolution! You can do it! You should make a thread for all the rehabilitated and newly wearable pieces you will be gaining.
I would love a BIG blue Zircon for a ring.
Like I have no loose gems.
Like I have no rings.
Hmmmm.
Mali garnets offers nice colour too. However, is more notable dispersion seen on Mali garnet than chrysoberyl? Also what about the difference/ similarity on their lustre and brilliance??
I also found it’s pretty rare for clean hued and vividly saturated one from both varieties.
Mali Garnets have much higher dispersion than Chrysoberyl. They are made up of grossular-andradite mixture. Around 5% is andradite, which in includes Demantoid which has higher dispersion than Diamond. Funny thing is that 5% of andradite gives Mali Garnet very similar dispersion to Demantoid. One of the most dispersive stones out there.
I agree. My new Mali garnet is amazing. It has so much fire. I had a feeling that it must be pretty close to demantoid. I jist couldn’t find a yellow one until now!
I also have a yellow chrysoberyl and it’s precision cut and it may not have as much fire but it does still have decent fire.
Spessartite garnet!
What instagram account is that from, I am at work and it won't open for me?Talking about opalescent sapphires, just look at those beauties:

I feel strangely attracted to the top middle one. Can't really say if it has colour zoning or just some very unusual and unique light and colour play.
