If I told you....

I manage projects thru design and construction on the owner''s side. I hire designers, architects, general contractors, etc....

I''m in finance and decided last year that I should go back to school to make myself more recession-proof. So I''m also a studying towards my business degree.... Hope to grad next fall. School + Work = no fun!!

Whitby-:-) It''s fun when you get gigs, not so fun in between which is why I also have a full-time day job and am getting an MBA. At this point, since DH and I hope to start a family this year I decided to focus more on running cultural organizations. I''ll still take good gigs when I get them, but I''m not looking to travel all the time. I love traveling, but I also love my personal life and being on the road for months at a time is just not the life I want. I have a masters in Voice/Opera and a decent resume of regional opera work. When the MBA is done in 2 more years then I refocus on getting some more singing gigs, mostly concert/oratorio work, but this year I am sort of on a singing hiatus. It was too much to juggle:-(

Silly Strawberry-There''s not many of us SS, my guess is that your friend and I probably know some of the same people. If she''s in NY then we definitely do:-)

Cali-I''m in school and work right now too, not very fun

Opera singer?? Seriously?? How cool is that!! Elaborate please because I''m fascinated since I sing (or did once upon a time before I let my voice go to seed), am an opera fan, and there was a very high-powered opera singer in my family. Lemme guess, you''re a mezzo right? ;-)

SAHM. Prior to this gig, I was working in the area''s biggest and highest rated Optometrists office. ( these optometrists were specialized in eye diseases and procedures like foreign body removal too. (there ain''t nothing like seeing a hand drill go into a person''s ball!) ) I did all the normal optometric assistant stuff and manufacturing but also Visual Therapy.

She gave up the singing part of her life to focus on the other stuff, so I''m guessing you don''t run in the same circles. I''m glad she did, though, because otherwise I wouldn''t have met her and then I would be sad.

I''m a research assistant at a university. I work on a public health-related study and I mostly interview participants and code and analyze data. I''m hoping to be accepted to a Master of Public Health program in Epidemiology...fingers crossed!

Wow, so many interest careers here!

Totally not trying to threadjack, but when I saw a picture of you the first time, I thought "she totally reminds me of a friend from NYC who used to be an opera singer!" Ha! Don''t ''spose you knew a gal named Piper a couple years ago? So weird that you reminded me of her before I even knew you sang opera!

I used to be a history professor at a university, and now I work in grantmaking at a small Federal agency.

I have a master''s degree in social work. I was a therapist at a sexual assault centre for 20 years but made a move this year to become a practicum placement coordinator for the Faculty of Social Work. I also teach as a sessional.

I''m a substitute teacher and a Behavioral Consultant for families/children with autism.

Used to be in clinical research (drug research) and a teratology toxicologist (maternal-fetal toxicology) on the side. I want to branch out now, trying to find employment in general toxicology/pharmacology consulting, but the industry unfortunately isn't doing very well right now. So, instead, taking a break and enjoying life.

Supervisor by day and adjunct professor by night.

I always feel in such illustrioius company in these types of theads. I''m just a gardener, although I do have my own business.

Sapphirelover and Princessplease bless you for the work you do! I am a RN and work in medsurg and ICU floors but nothing in my career has ever been as hard as my clinicals in mental health, you are appreciated!

Gailey...can you come over and mow my lawn?

Gailey, I''ve taken an interest in gardening lately. My mother is an avid gardener and has a really nice garden at her place. I live in an apartment with a balcony outside so I have been buying some potted plants and playing with them outside (not quite gardening but it''s all I can do without a real yard!). My favorite find lately are the "buzzy seeds" pre-made kits. I found tiny little buzzy-seed pots at target in the dollar section. They are valentine''s day themed plants: forget-me-nots, strawberries, and something called "burning love." I''m excited to plant them!

Hmm...

Used to be a pastry chef.
Just graduated last month with my BA in Psych (worthless).
Then I got married.
And now I''m just unemployed, and not really actively looking. Yet. (Waiting to legally change my name and jump through all of those hoops first.) Plus we''re looking into moving in with my dad, and various other projects all at once (renting out our condo, figuring out the last year of my dad''s finances, etc).

Really though, I''m basically the personal assistant to my husband and my dad, and they are two high maintenance men. I just wish I could get paid for doing it all...

I have a BS in Marine Biology and a BS in Psychology.

However I work in Foreclosure Real Estate (I''ve worked in the market for 8 years on and off and it pays the bills) and I also run an in home/office Salt and Freshwater tank maintenance service.

My dream job would to be doing conservation research in an aquarium or research lab.

Sorry DF, don''t cut grass. Got any weeding you need done? I''ll be over when the rain stops.

Good for you Artist_less. I started with a very small patio about 150 years ago. Great oaks grow from small acorns!

Hello, nice to meet you, ArtistJess! I'm Gwen and I teach in a special needs high school in NW London. Half the time I teach my class (year 9s, 13/14 year olds) English, math & health. The other half of the time, I teach music in performing arts classes to the whole school. It can be exhausting, but it is a really wonderful way to spend my days. One day, I may get my PhD to do research in the field of special needs (that's what my master's was in), but for now, this is a good place to be. Excellent that photography is a hobby of yours--it's one of mine as well!

Great to hear from you, Gwen! I've been a lurker for a while now, so I've seen some of your posts (sorry, that may be sliiiiightly creepy).

Anyway, it's awesome to hear from some of the U.K. posters. I love London. I think it's probably one of the greatest cities in the world, really. Spent a year there when I was little, and studied art, theater, and British history & culture there a few years back. I've also been on a smattering of shorter vacations there. It's safe to say that London has changed my life and heart in a very positive way. I would give anything to be back.. even if only for a short while.
