I had this in another forum but figured this might be a better place for it... Following up to the recent thread in BWW about wearing your rings when you sleep, work out, clean etc...

It''s recently gotten really cold where I live and I started wearing my gloves again on my way to work. We also recently finally received the e-ring and I''ve loved wearing it whenever is reasonable. My question is this: what do you guys do with your rings when you have to wear winter (or other) gloves? I tried wearing the ring this morning with some relatively loose fleece gloves and it''s really annoying.

And I''m also wondering what you do with your rings when you''re away from home and need to take them off. I mentioned to FI this morning before putting my gloves on that I could put the ring securely in my purse till I get to work then put the ring on, and he is absolutely AGAINST the idea of me ever having the ring not on my finger in public unless it is sitting safely at home. The issue is not that I don''t have it on, the issue is that it''s "unsafe" in my purse. But I don''t want to have to never wear my ring all day just b/c I had to wear gloves for 30 minutes in the morning/afternoon.

My original rings were small enough that they fit under gloves, so I simply wore them to work. I have to agree with your FI that your rings are safest on your finger. Is it possible to go up a size in your gloves? ETA- I wear lined leather gloves. I think they may catch less than fleece.

I do sometimes lock my ring in my desk drawer during the day because we have exercise facilities on site. I make sure I tell no one about this, however.

And, of course, make sure your rings are insured.

Ditto! I have all of my jewelry insured, which makes me sleep a lot better!

As far as the gloves issue: I usually just put my gloves on over my rings. My gloves are all a bit big so they''ll fit and, as FlyGirl mentioned, gloves with smooth linings are great because they don''t catch on your prongs!

I just wear my gloves over my rings, but like others, my gloves (or mittens when it''s really cold) are a bit on the big side and are pretty smooth inside.

I bought isotoner stretchy gloves and am having an easier time with the glove issue this year. I also have a small felt bag in my purse, and if I HAVE to take it off away from home, I tuck it in the bag, and then inside the zippered part of my purse.

I take them off for showering, cleaning and sleeping. I frequently wish that I had gotten a plain, platinum comfort-fit band as my wedding band, instead of a diamond band, so that I could have one ring that I wear all the time, like my husband, who never takes his off. Since my band is channel-set, it gets uncomfortable if I try to sleep in it (squared edge on the inside). Maybe I can have a jeweler file down the inside edges to make it more comfortable ...

Winter is when I wish I had a bezel, LOL.

Ha, ditto!! I prefer mittens when I need to wear something on my hands (only when I visit my parents or the in-laws, as we don''t need such things where we live!).

i wear my wedding band always unless i am cleaning with chemicals. i sleep with my ering and band on. i take my ering off to shower. my gloves are uncomfortable with my rings on but i just deal with it. id rather be uncomfortable for the 30 min car ride then lose it.

My ring is bulky but I just wear gloves over it, never bothers me... I wear those kid''s super stretchy knit gloves with the grubby rubber bits on the palm; great to drive with! (And cheap, my cat stalks my gloves and steals at least one during each winter, so they''re pretty disposable).

I would be afeared to put my ring in my purse. I''d forget it or lose it or something. The one time I *had* to take my ring off when away from home- I was epoxying a bunch of stuff and got it all OVER me- I put them on the chain my pendant is on and wore them around my neck. I tend to be a huge losing-stuff hazard so, it is safer for me if my rings are on my finger at all times... they don''t come off when I sleep or anything, just to clean them.

First part - my ring is set very low, so there''s no issue with gloves. Thank goodness - where I live, it feels like I''m wearing gloves for half the year!

I agree with your FI - don''t put your ring in your purse. Have you not seen the last episode of Sex and City?! I''d just buy looser gloves!

Second part - Neither DH nor I wear our rings when we''re in the house, so we''re ring-free a lot - but I try like heck to never have my ring off when I''m out of the house. That''s just scary - too many ways it could get lost. If I''m working out, I''m wearing a plain band and the diamonds are at home. Swimming, same deal (though DH and I will often just leave them at home if we''re going to the gym to swim or the pool in summer. If I''m at the mall and want to try lotion - then I lotion up around the ring. But the ring doesn''t come off. When I travel, I make sure to take a box or jewelry roll with me for the ring at night - but never just set it on a ledge or something.

I don''t wear gloves. Who cares about my hands, let''em freeze as long as I can wear my rings!

I don''t wear jewelry around the house, it gets caught on too many things. When I''m at home, I keep my jewelry in a jewelry box. I carry a small jewelry pouch with individual little pockets in my bag so if I''m out and I need to take off my jewels I slip them in it.

I don''t often wear gloves. Sometimes I leave my rings on, sometimes I put them in my little pouch.
