I need opinions......I''m thinking for the price, I might take a chance on this stone. It looks like it''s cut really deep though, and I''m wondering if it will be difficult, due to the depth, to make it into a ring. Is tourmaline a durable stone for a ring? What about the color?

I''m also considering this spinel

Yummy Yummy tourmalinr. I like it better than the spinel IMO.

Tourmaline in a ring is not bad. You just have to be careful and not do anything rough in it. Some may warn that it is soft and there are problems.. but all gesmtones have to be treated with care.

I had once considered tourmaline for my e-ring. I don;t think I would have had any problems with it and felt wuite confident. The only reason I did not choose it was because I wanted the orange of the garnet. I was looking at the blue and green tourmalines.. but i love love love love this one... I think the spinel is pretty, some would say more durable, but I think this one lacks that umph and it looks at bit dhadowed and dark.. Uknow

The last two tiers of facets on the spinel are well under the critical angle for spinel, and the stone will have a large window. I would doubt that the color of the tourmaline once you see in in person will look like the picture. The color in the picture looks pretty good, and way too good for the price. Pink tourmaline typically gets muddy and brown, except for the very select stones. Expect to pay $120-$200 per ct. for good color pink tourmaline. I would make sure there is a good return policy.

ditto. rule of thumb is that picture will be lighter than the actual stone....and that''s been my experience. however, you won''t know until you see it and that''s why a really good return policy is necessary.

Definitely agree with MZ here. Check this out...Diamondlil had a beautiful red spinel ring made. Here''s the picture of the stone from the vendor''s website:

Here''s the ring. Note the color of the stone. Still gorgeous, but definitely darker.

good pictures and to the point, FG!

btw, i love that ring....i think prefer the darker stone over the vendors picture.

Me too MZ - in this case, I like that the stone wasn''t as light pink toned as the vendor''s pic!
