You know that girl in your elementary school photo that looked like she skipped 2 grades because she was so much smaller than everyone else? Yep, that''s me. At 26, I''m still waiting for my growth spurt.

I thought aphi''s screen name read "a phi sig loves sae." I got that someone in the equation was a Phi Sig, but I thought Sae was someone''s name!

Munchkin

This is a cute thread, and it is fun to see where some of the names come from. I also pronounced "aphisiglovessae" as "aphis glove essae" and "ame" as "aim." Also I didn''t catch where Lorelei or AGBF were from, but I should have, from the movie! Very clever. (I get a kick out of the scene on that movie where Lorelei looks at the man who owns the diamond mines, and she sees his head as a great big diamond! [$$)] )

I wish I had a cute story behind mine. Mine is not very creative; I didn''t put much thought into it. The day I made it up, I looked at the liturgical calendar on the wall, and it was the feast of St. Odiliia, so I said, "okay; that''s not common." So I used it. No symbolism or anything. Although I have thought of changing it to something that has more meaning.

I say Alj''s name in my head like Aljeway. Is that right??? And where does it come from???

That''s exactly how I say it!

I wish there were an interesting story behind my name, but there isn''t. Demelza was the name of the cat we had when I was very little. My parents named her after some character on Masterpiece Theater. I picked it because I think it''s an interesting sounding name. My real name is Alex.

Well at least everyone picked up on the Aim thing.

I wrote this in the other thread, but I choose icekid without thinking about "ice" also meaning diamonds. I used icekid as other usernames so naturally here too.

I guess now it means diamonds too since I am officially obsessed

But originally it referred to ice, as in that which you skate on. I am a figure skater, and my brothers are crazed hockey players (making me a hockey sister)... we grew up with an ice rink in our back yard! So I was always an ice kid

Mine is rather corny but I used it because that''s what the copywriter I work with calls me, for obvious reasons. I had it shortened from "Diamond Diva" to DiaDiva for modesty''s sake

.

My husband shakes his head whenever he sees my username and my avatar. Well, we''ve been married almost 5 years so he''s had ample time to get used to "my ways"

I love this thread.....everyone is unique.

SuziQ ....I love your username! It's very 'Private I' stroke 'rock chick'.

I like mine because I think it's unisex leaning to sounding male ......until I start chatting then hopefully you can tell I'm a girl!

I'm English (have been in the US 10 years) and my favourite football team is Liverpool. Our home strip is red and our supporters are known as the Red Army or the Mighty Reds ....when you watch them you can hear the crowd chant 'C'mon you mighty reds' and it is fantastic and inspiring. So that's why I chose it!

Incidentally ....our anthem is You'll Never Walk Alone (Rogers & Hammerstein) which is also inspirational. I love the words......

You'll Never Walk Alone

When you walk through a storm,
Hold your head up high,
And don't be afraid of the dark.
At the end of a storm,
There's a golden sky,
And the sweet silver song of a lark.

Walk on through the wind,
Walk on through the rain,
Though your dreams be tossed and blown.
Walk on, walk on, with hope in your heart,
And you'll never walk alone…

Walk on, walk on, with hope in your heart,
And you'll never walk alone…
You'll never walk alone.

Perry.

Nothing more, nothing less.

I am not sure if I can describe all the amazing things it means...

My 14 year old picked mine. I needed a name and asked him for ideas....he knew it was for this diamond and jewelry website I spent alot of time on and immediately came up with BlingBlingMommy. He loves rap music....so he''s into "bling bling"...and he thought it was sooo cool that I actually used his idea.

I have two siamese cats, one is Koko & the other is Bongo. I never realized until very recently that the night club in the movie "The Mask", is called the Coco-Bongo club!!

m.r.s. are my dad''s initials and j.a.m. are my mom''s. That''s how I came up with Mrs. Jam.

BlingBlingMommy.....that must be the best feeling! I am sure it''s not easy getting a 14year old to think you are cool!

I always wondered about people''s names so thanks for this thread. Mine is pretty boring. I have a Tacori E-ring (which I love) so I thought I would use this as my name. Sometimes when people call me "Tacori" in threads it takes me a minute to realize they are referring to me.

But I don''t mine, or you can just call me Sarah. Your choice.

some people shop til they drop....me, its movies: 49 movies in 8 days at the toronto international film festival in september 2005 = one movie zombie.

i''ve signed us up to to go to palm springs for their international film festival in january for 10 days.....then its san jose in march for 10 days of cinequest, pop into santa cruz for their baby film festival in may and then back to tornoto for more of the same in september 2006.

btw, if you''re into movies, toronto is the place...2nd only to cannes and even giving cannes a run for its money for 1st place.

and the best part is that i met my husband at a film festival! our saying is: so many movies, so little time......

peace, movie zombie

This thread is great! It is so interesting to hear the history of how everyone got their names. I chose mine because when I first found Pricescope, I really really vanted a diamond...hence I-VANA-DIAMOND. I always think of Ivana Trump when I see the my avatar, or at least pronounce it how i think she would say it

haha I love all the stories on everyone''s names...

Mrs.Jam that is so funny that it''s just initials, I always thought it was Mrs. Jam as in Married Jam. But I wondered what the Jam meant!

yay! excellent stories everyone...

i thought mrs jam was coz u loved jam and ur a mrs!? ahahaha!!! uncreative me! =)

and as for alj, i never read past that first three letters ( i still dont know wat her spelling is!)...u know how when u read a book, sometimes u never read the actual characters name, but u just know it visually?? i usually do that when i feel the name will take to much effort to read!!! (im so lazy sometimes) so i did the same here...i just know her as ''alj''....and thats it!

allycat! i really thought u meant an ''alley cat'' !!!!

and for HOUMedGal : i never took the time to slow down and read ur name properly until a few days ago when ur thread was bumped up and i read u were in med school and then thats when the light bulb went off '' MED GAL'' duh!!! i used to read it ''WHO MIDGAL'' ....ahahahahah!!!!

I''ve learned in life not to get my "heart set" or become too attached to any outcome.

This time, it felt o.k. to get my heart set on my very special e-ring. And my heart really was set on a beautiful halo, although I admired all kinds of different rings.

I realize that there is a grammatical error....hearts set without an apostrophe. I was unable sign up that way, and I figured no one would care anyway.

So now my avatar picures perfectly on just how my heart was set!

Great thread

Yep, it definitely is a great feeling! We went through a couple of really bad years to get here though....

Just sound it out and look at my avatar. I use variations on "gem collector" as a pseudonym in various situations, both online and off.

Hmmm. Moremoremore. Pretty much says it all, unfortunately. LOL I''d like to stop coveting so much and downsize...so maybe my new name will be Lesslessless!

MMM,

Although I''ve been pretty sure that you didn''t pick your username based on this, all I can think of every time you post is that ''70''s disco song by the Andrea True Connection (I just googled it--I don''t know that off the top of my head). I always start humming "More more more... How do you like it? How do you like it?" everytime I read your posts. And then I think about a special I saw on VH1 about awesomely bad songs, where they talk about how the singer was actually a **** star as her main career or something. Random! Anyway, thought you''d appreciate that...

Morticia was the mom on the Adam's Family, and my best friend jokingly calls me "Morticia" b/c she thinks I wear too much black. Top that off with my long dark hair and pale skin - ha.

I''m just hoping my boyfriend proposes soon. :-)

Mine''s pretty easy too... it''s just a sometimes nickname from my childhood.

So funny... aphsiglovessae is always pronounced ''a pee this glove'' in my head. Yes, I know, I''m weird.

LOL abra!

So interesting to get to know everyone by their username -- which somehow, someway reveals a part of their personality.

Add a few letters and mine spells "surfer girl."

I learned to windsurf a few years ago, and it has become an absolute passion. Funny thing is, I''m 46 years old!

Never thought my most coveted X-mas present (other than diamonds, that is) at the age of 46 would be a surfboard. Life is good!

This is fun! Here''s mine:

Min = Minnesota, where I live now with my fiance

Ny= New York, where I was born and raised

.......Minny was also the name of my first pet hamster, who met an untimely death when I was in 5th grade......
39.gif

OK, so I think aphisiglovessae wins the prize for the most interesting and different pronunciations of her screen name by the rest of us!!
