What happens if you heat a dark blue sapphire? Should I re-cut?

Haven't been in SMTB in ages, but I'll definitely visit your thread. :mrgreen2:

Here ya go - making it easy. ::) There are a bunch of photos on each page.

Do they get darker? Lighter? Brighter? My sapphire from Alex Weber arrived (2.51ct cushion cut), and its great in *perfect* lighting. The rest of the time it blacks out. It has no inclusions to speak of, and in the right light (10am - 2pm directly under the sky light in my stair case) it's gorgeous. Apart from that? Not so great.

Would I be better with a recut? From who? I bought it at an auction, I can't return it, and I just want it to be better than this. This is my one and only.

ETA It's a native cut, by the way. And in the best light, it shows a loooot of purple. I'm afraid heat might make it darker.

May be your stones origin is baseltic region.Usualy blue sapphires from africa are deep colour in indoor.I think heating is not a good option

Hi there, @ceylon sapphire guy. Below are some photos of the gem in its final resting place. I didn't do anything to it in the end, just set it in the perfect setting to maximize its color.

I am glad you didn’t heat the stone. I have done a couple of heat treatments, and because this stone has a purple color, heating it might cause the color to change completely to an unexpected one.

Ooh can you tell me more about what you get when you heat a stone?

I have one that’s I love, it’s unheated but I’ve often wondered what would happen if it was heated. Would it look better? Would it crack etc
