What is it about spinel?

Not mine, but this picture pretty much sums up how much I love this gem species. Lavender spinel from Yavsrskyy. Sigh......

Some new non "trade ideal cobalts" from Luc Yen showed up today;

Purple/violet one but it's also got neon blue flashes unlike any other Burmese lavenders I've seen;


And there was a darker than ideal blue one that is sapphire coloured;

And there was a lighter blue one;



They are all cobalts from Luc Yen.... and I took some quick pics of some old ones I've had for ages, to show what "trade ideal" colours look like native cut weird oval versus precision cut round;


And we managed last year to explode 5 or 6+ times this amount of stones to custom cut these tiny French cuts;

Thanks it's a really unusual colour. I've seen a lot of lavender ones (which I know many people like), which I personally am not that into but this is a purple/violet with blue flashes that is quite pretty.

One of the biggest cobalts I own is this native cut pear, it's paler than "trade" ideal and sleepy but still unmistakably a Luc Yen Cobalt (you take whatever you can find in cobalts over a certain size);

@Mrs_Strizzle - I don't know if you would see another cobalt that colour, I've never seen a lavender/purple spinel the exact same colour and I've seen a lot of spinels - I'm a spinel hoarder. I actually didn't know it was that colour until I got it (I thought it would be more blue IRL), so it was kind of an accident.
