What is the deal with Rolex waiting lists?

Could I possibly ask you to have a look at Patek Nautilus please? Only if you have time. Thank you.
I would love to do that for you. The AD is also a PP AD. I don’t know when I‘m going to go next though because omicron is just starting its surge there. I will take photos.

Thank you so much. No rush. I'd love to buy a really nice watch for my big b'day coming up in 3 years' time. So plenty of time for me to search. I'd buy one now if a suitable one comes up, but I have a feeling it's gonna be a loooong search.

Oh, and if you do come across a Paul Newman Daytona (gold or SS), please let me know too. Really appreciate your help.

Good luck with your DH's watch too.

@Phoenix this store doesn’t carry PP but she did take my information down to call the store that does carry it.

The AD had zero Rolex in the case. Zero. She found this one (deep sea) in the safe and it’s spoken for.

Wow!! Crazy!

Which store carries PP, @whitewave ?

Thank you.

I just went through this process to get my submariner a couple of years ago. It is completely worth it to purchase from an AD. I will see if I can find my thread to link it. It only took me 3 months, though when I asked, the answer at the outset was that it would take far longer.

At any rate, my advice is to begin to cultivate relationships with salespeople at all the local ADs. Not just one. You stand a better chance that way. Drop by regularly, text. Start a dialogue and let them know you are truly interested in the piece, and that you intend to wear it and not to resell it. I drop by and see my sales guy regularly. We try on watches and he will pull fun stuff out of the safe to show me because he knows I enjoy watches. He texts me when he has something fun in. When I go in I will try to bring him coffee or baked goods.

It’s also helpful to buy other (available) pieces in the meantime. Jewelry that they have on hand.

I realize this is all a giant PITA, but I swear it helps. And if you look at grey prices for Rolex, you may still come out ahead.

^ I was about to hit "Like" and then I just could not bring myself to because it felt like an endorsement of this model! But I agree -- everything you say is accurate, according to those I know who live this life. But it's just so awful as a business model! Like: I bought a whole mess of Chevies a few years back just so I could get in line for the mid-engine Corvette. :mrgreen2:

DS has been on the hunt for a Submariner for several months without any luck. He’s off tomorrow to have a look at 2 pre-owned ones. We’re all laughing that he’s definitely going to come back with one of them, whatever the price!,

We have a C7.

I agree this is truly stupid. I really do. Lol

DS came home with the 40 Black Submariner, 2 years old and in as new condition.

Update: after waiting forever for this Rolex, in May when I was in NOLA helping my mom after surgery, I went to two more authorized dealers to get on the lists.

Friday, the one actually closest to my other house called! She had one and did we still want it!

It’s the exact one he wanted: submariner without the date on it. So we went on Saturday to pick it up.

DH is one happy man. Two pics:

Classic! Love this. So happy for him (and for you!).

Thanks! He loves it more than he thought he would. Meanwhile, the saleswoman wrote down a 31mm stainless and rose gold with pink face or mother of Pearl and jubilee band Date just with fluted bezel for me for when DH is ready. Oh and Roman numerals or diamond markers. So I’m not on the waiting list but DH wants to surprise me one day. (I’m not that into watches and love my Tank but I definitely won’t turn down a Rolex)
