What is a weird food combo you enjoy eating.
And please feel free to share your recipe.

I"ll go first :)

First weird combo:
When I was little I loved green spaghetti with cottage cheese and sweet and low. Yes I know gross. LOL but I was a product of the 70s so to speak and we did not consider that gross. Well I mean the sweet and low. I do not know anyone who had green spaghetti with cottage cheese haha. Sometimes we used the pineapple cottage cheese. I really did enjoy it a lot at that time. Now I cannot do dairy or gluten so haven't had that dish for 45 years or so

Second weird combo:
I always put a combo of ketchup and mustard on my french fries when I was younger. I loved that combo. I do not know many who mix the ketchup and mustard. My ratio is 2/3 mustard and 1/3 ketchup

Your turn. What weird food combo have you enjoyed or still enjoy?

Just thought of another combo I enjoyed when younger. I don't consider it weird but maybe some would? I would add Bachman pretzels to my vanilla ice cream and mash it up. LOL It was so yummy. I was an ice cream fanatic when I was young. OK OK I am still an ice cream fanatic but I eat vegan ice cream now and omg it is so delish.

Some of Jimmy's homemade vegan ice cream could be considered "weird" flavors. I stick to what I love (vanilla, strawberry, coffee all so delish) but he has so many different flavors. All homemade

Blueberry Biscoff: Coconut Cream based ice cream with homemade blueberry purée and swirled with Biscoff cookies

My DH's fave flavor: blueberry pancake

Horchata: a rice milk based ice cream flavored with cinnamon & vanilla

Sweet Corn: an oat milk based vegan ice cream

Another of my DH's favorites: Cashew cherry bourbon a cashew butter based ice cream flavored with vanilla and bourbon

Camo Matcha (cashew butter based espresso-matcha ice cream)

There are so many homemade flavors. One last one for now
Lavender Chamomile: an organic coconut cream based vegan ice cream, with house brewed lavender-chamomile tea as the water content of the recipe

One of my favorites but not a weird flavor unfortunately :)

OK off to get some ice cream....JK it's only 8AM here though if they were open I would be tempted...it's never too early for ice cream!

When I was a little kid, my Dad taught us to put ketchup on scrambled eggs.
It was good, in a weird way. I don't do that anymore, though!

I have no idea where he learned that, certainly not from his Italian immigrant parents.
Maybe in the Army, or when he toured the South paying minor league baseball.

OMG yes we ate our scrambled eggs with ketchup too...no clue it was weird lol

I put malt vinegar on pork and hard boiled eggs. Reminds me of the pickled eggs and pork my mother used to make when I was a child. I know that sounds gross to some people.

I make my own version of low cal ice cream with frozen berries, unsweetened almond milk and artificial sweetener. I put the frozen fruit in a bowl, add sweetener, and cover with almond milk. Leave it on the counter for about 15 minutes and the berries freeze the almond milk to an ice cream like texture after I mix it up a bit.

That sounds pretty amazing actually. :lickout:

My Mom used to add ketchup to her chicken noodle soup - weird but it tasted fine, it just made the broth a tomato/chicken broth!

I like cottage cheese with pepper added, not sure if that is weird but the first time I saw someone do it I was grossed out - now I love it too!

Come to think of weird recipes…My mom used to add Coca Cola to her skirt steak secret sauce
it tasted darn good too lol

mac n cheese omelet.
or more correctly
Eggy mac n cheese.

Lightly fry left over mac n cheese in butter to get it warm then add eggs and stir.
For eggy mac n cheese use fewer eggs so its more of mac n cheese coated in dried egg.
Use more eggs for an omelet with mac n cheese on it.
Top with bacon bits and cheese.

I like to add a spoon of natural peanut butter to collard greens (just my own portion-- the rest of my family prefers their collards without the PB).

Also, Genoa salami tastes great with with tuna salad in a sandwich. Topped with oregano, olive oil and cider / wine vinegar.

I make a cold salad that my family enjoys with canned chicken, cannellini beans, sliced hearts of palm and grape tomatoes sliced in half, seasoned with thyme, extra virgin olive oil, cider vinegar and freshly ground Tellicherry pepper.

A snack of hot chick peas with lots of pepper always brings a smile to my face.

My Aunt would marinate beef in RC Cola over night.
It was really good but strange at first bite.
It was like, hmm that's weird tasting, mmmm that's good.
I never make it.

I like to spread peanut butter on brownies. That might not be weird.

Also, hummus is good on chicken.

This may not be weird for other Asian families, but I always add cooked carrots crunchy cucumbers and Fuji apple in my potato salad. Then we eat the potato salad in a sandwich sometimes. Look up Japanese or Korean potato salad :)

I always add cola in my Korean Bbq marinade, also grated Asian pear.

A recent tiktok trend that my kids taught me was to mix kewpie mayo, egg, and minced garlic into a paste and pour hot, cooked spicy Korean instant noodles over it for a creamy noodle soup. I love it, and do it every time I make instant noodle nowadays!

That first combo sounds awesome to me and ha cola. My mom too

I don’t think I eat anything weird but I just had to chime in about eggs and ketchup. While I don’t partake, I think that combo is more common than people realize. DH and younger son both put ketchup on their eggs while I am sitting there like :snooty:

As a child I didn't like scrambled eggs, but I do remember my father putting ketchup on his, so I agree, it wasn't unusual.

I honestly can't think of anything that I eat that I would consider a weird combo. The only thing I can think of that might be a bit unusual (not sure, really) is that I like to mix mayo and yellow mustard together as a condiment. If I ever have a hot dog (can't remember the last time I did though) I put mayo and mustard on it. If I make turkey burger or hamburger, it's mayo and mustard.

Mayonnaise on cooled toast (not completely cold, still has a little bit of warmth), topped with toasted sesame seeds and ground black pepper.

DK :))

My husband always eats his scrambled eggs with ketchup. I like my eggs sunny side up with soy sauce.

Mashed potatoes and sauerkraut mixed together; mashed potatoes and corn mixed together.

Peanut butter and mayonnaise and banana on Wonderbread
Hot fudge sundae with bacon

Hot chips dipped in soft serve ice cream.

My husband likes popcorn with tabasco sauce.

My DH has always put ketchup on his scrambled eggs, and on omelette, drives me mad, how can you taste the egg with that on?

I don’t think I eat anything that could be considered a strange combo.

I'm weird, not for what food combinations I DO eat, but for NOT combining stuff that nearly everyone else does:

No dressing on a salad, not even a light vinaigrette, or a squeeze of fresh lemon
No condiments whatsoever on sandwiches/hamburgers/hotdogs, ever
(Actually I haven't eaten the later two for decades)

No sauces, such as tahini on Pita Gyros, or hollindaise sauce on anything
No ketchup on fries, which I never order though I'll steal a couple from DH
In fact, no ketchup, mustard, mayo, relish on anything, ever
No tartar sauce on fish

The smell/taste of vinegar turns my stomach
I'll refrain from posting a barf GIF

My DH is the polar opposite.
I can spend hours preparing food and getting flavors balanced just right, only to watch him slather ketchup all over it. :angryfire:

:naughty::naughty::naughty:
Sometimes people should just NOT vary. :lol-2:

Mashed potatoes and sauerkraut mixed together; mashed potatoes and corn mixed together.

One of my favorite recipes. My husband and have made this for three years now when it’s our turn to prepare dinner at the annual family get - together in Minnesota - it’s a real crowd pleaser. We pair it with local sausages and a raw broccoli salad.

(BTW, mashing various cooked veggies together with potatoes is a very, very Dutch thing to do. My mother regularly prepared several such dishes. “Hutspot” is a a dish I especially remember; it’s made up of carrots and onions mashed with potatoes. My mother usually served it with pork chops. The sauerkraut dish is the only mashed potatoes and veggies dish I still make.)

(And… the picture that accompanies the recipe is all wrong since it shows the sauerkraut alongside the potatoes rather than the two mixed together.)
